My Grandmother was admitted to Somer Valley House after being discharged from hospital following a nasty fall at home and suffering a fracture near her coccyx. Originally she was only booked for 2 weeks respite but was so pleased with the care and the home that she extended this by another 2 weeks. It is a great home with so many thoughtful touches and a lovely community feel that Gran felt like it was more of a holiday. She is looking forward to another respite stay next year when we go on holiday

Reply from Emma Curtain, Customer Relationship Manager at Somer Valley House

Thank you so much for your kind review. We do hope that your Grandmother is still recovering well and enjoyed her time here with us as much as we enjoyed having her. It is fabulous to hear that your gran will be back next year for a respite stay.

Nan stayed at Somer Valley House for 4 months whilst her house was being repaired after a flood left it inhabitable. Nan was reluctant to move into a care home but soon changed her mind when she realised that Somer Valley House was more like being on an all inclusive holiday with the benefit of care provided as well. During her time there she met some Llama's , some lambs , rode on a tandem bike and her hair had never looked so good after weekly visit's to the in house hair salon. The chef was brilliant and tailored her meals due to dietary preferences and her room was equipt with all mod con's. I visited with my young son and he loved it as well, especially the cakes on the bistro and the fuss the lady at the front desk made of him. When Nan's house was ready she almost didn't want to come home. I want to say a big thank you to all the staff, you made a terrible situation into a lovely experience and both myself and Mum are so grateful to you.

Mum first went into Somer Valley for respite care last year and was resident again from January to June this year. I cannot sing the praises of Somer Valley highly enough. Every member of staff we encountered was a breath of fresh air and nothing was too much trouble. As a family communicating with management and admin staff we were always dealt with warmly and professionally. Mum wasn't one for joining in all the activities but she enjoyed those that she did. She loved having her hair done , it was the highlight of her week. Family members were offered coffee and cake when visiting and we were always welcome to join mum for lunch in the dining room which we loved to do on many an occasion. Mum told us that everyone was so kind to her and she felt loved, cared for and safe in their care. The rooms and all areas of the Home are modern, bright and clean and we cannot thank the staff at all levels for the care they gave mum and the care and compassion shown to us all as a family.

Mum has been a resident for 3 months now. I cannot say enough about Somer Valley. The quality of care is brilliant, all the team members really care about the residents. The surroundings are first class, its more like a 5 star hotel. We had lunch with mum today. The food is excellent. This care home is streets ahead of any other care home I have visited. I know mum is safe and cared for here.

My 90 year old Mum moved in to Somer Valley in March. She'd suffered a fall and was struggling to recover from a broken hip. She moved in on a respite basis, with the intention of moving back home after a few weeks recuperating. Mum had been a fiercely independent woman prior to her fall and the thought of moving in to a care home had never been a consideration. From the very start both Mum & l were so impressed with this fabulous home. It's a lovely bright & modern home, more like a hotel than a care facility. The staff are just amazing, so bright & chatty, nothing is too much trouble. The team work really hard to put on a great variety of activities, Mum has so much fun she's got a new lease of life. The best testament is that she has now decided to stay permanently at the home, she loves it so much.

My mother has recently been admitted to Somer Valley House for respite care. The Home is beautiful - exceptional cleanliness, delicious food and very caring staff. Managers are always in evidence and appear to deal with issues as soon as they are alerted to them. Staff all appear to enjoy their work. The rooms are a good size and we have all been made to feel very welcome. The Residents have a full and varied activities programme although no one is forced to participate in anything they don't want to do. There are numerous quiet areas, several lounge areas and well furnished bedrooms. The family is keeping their fingers crossed that when mum is ready she will be able stay on a permanent basis.

The team at Somer Valley have provided excellent care for my mum since she arrived there in March. She has been made very welcome since the moment she arrived. The staff have all been very patient and caring when they have dealt with her, showing a genuine understanding of her needs, and demonstrating their ability to care properly for the elderly. All the staff that I have met are very conscientious and have shown they really care for the residents.

I live outside the Midsomer area and when visiting my mum since she moved to Somer Valley I have noticed a continual improvement in her wellbeing and mood, and she is much more relaxed than she was in the last care home where she was resident. Her relationship with her carers is very much better than it was at her last care home, and it is clear that she trusts the carers who care for her at Somer Valley. We are very pleased to have been able to move her here and feel confident the team will continue to meet her needs.

The team at Somer Valley are exceptional. From the moment of arrival they make residents feel welcome and safe. It is obvious that the staff working at Somer Valley are there because they love caring for people and enjoy their work. They are very experienced and know how to look after elderly people well. They take a great interest in each of their residents and will bend over backwards to make sure they are safe, clean, warm and well-fed.

My mum arrived after a horrendous experience in another care home where she was neglected. I can't thank the team at Somer Valley enough for their caring approach. My mum has been at Somer Valley for about six weeks now and has improved so much. Her health and nutrition have improved, but more importantly, she feels safe and relaxed and likes her carers. She has got a bit of her old spirit back and that means the world to our family.

My 90 year old mother has recently completed a 28 day respite stay here.
The care has been exceptional.
Nothing has been too much trouble.
Being of the older generation, mum improved from feeling very poorly, post a shoulder replacement, to independently making her bed and walking around.
She has been encouraged and supported by a variety of members of staff.
The staff were all welcoming and friendly, no matter how busy they were.
Taxi's were ordered to take mum to post surgery appointments and a private lunch organised when she had some special visitors.
On the day she left, she walked confidently, looked well rested and was eager to get back to her own flat.

Thank you.

My mother is a very private person and has been very independent her whole life. My father passed away in 2024 and unfortunately in 2025 the care home which my parents were in had closed. With having to move to a new care provider and being on her own mum has become very depressed and feels alone in a strange environment, which has caused her to almost retract into herself. I think mum could do with some sort of therapy. I feel mum has decided she hasn't a place in this world or a reason to live and feels the guilt of my fathers passing is the reason not to accept she is still living. I am hoping for assistance finding help with getting a result to resolve this situation.

My sister had a respite stay at this home last summer and has now returned to them for a permanent stay. This home is a breath of fresh air with a lovely atmosphere from the minute you walk through the door. The care team are wonderful, my sister is well fed, well looked after and treated with the upmost dignity. After my mother returned home from a hip replacement, we were unfortunately faced with a flood in her property. It was a traumatic time, and she urgently needed alternative accommodation, as she wasn't able to manage on her own.
Until then, I hadn't really considered a care home for short-term respite - but discovering Sommer Valley House changed everything.
From the very first introduction, led by Emma, the support we received (alongside her home insurance and some self-funding) was exceptional. The team took the time to understand my mother's personality and needs, and tailored her stay perfectly.
The staff at Sommer Valley House - too many to name individually - were outstanding. Emma's guidance and genuine care stood out, and the entire team created a warm, supportive environment within a truly state-of-the-art facility.

Thank you for giving my mother such a positive and memorable experience. She has already said she would love to return for regular day visits.
