Capel Grange is Amaya Care's second purpose-built community nursing home in Newport. Capel Grange provides high-quality person-centred care. Situated next to one of their Extra Care Schemes, this home provides nursing care for 72 people with a variety of care and physical needs including dementia and end of life care.

All of the bedrooms are spacious and en-suite designed around the people who live in the home. There are five separate communities each with their own lounge and dining areas. On the ground floor, there is a lounge and dining area leading to a conservatory and access to the enclosed landscaped garden.

Each area has complementary tea and coffee making facilities and they encourage friends and family to enjoy refreshments together just as if it were happening in a person’s own home. BBQs and picnics are held in the garden which is secluded, safe and pleasant to sit in. There is a hair salon and a room for films or watching special sporting or social occasions.

Registered with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CIW), Capel Grange provides the highest standards of accommodation and person-centred care, with highly experienced Registered Nurses and Care Assistants providing 24-hour support. The whole building exceeds CSSIW requirements with bigger bedrooms, wider corridors, spacious lounges and a high staff to residents ratio.

Owned and operated by Amaya Care Homes (Capel) Limited, the team at Capel Grange recognises that every resident is different, so each person has a unique care plan designed just for them, encompassing both care requirements and personal preference.

  • The home is open 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week, it is a secured establishment with a fob access. No restrictions for visitation at the moment. Visiting individual should log in and out into the sign in app, to capture the individuals who are in the building.

Parking

  • Capel Grange has a shared car park with Capel Court Extra Care scheme. Across the car park there are approximately 45 parking spaces available to be used. Please do not park in the yellow boxes as these are used for deliveries and emergency vehicles. There is no allocated parking at Capel Grange, all spaces are available to be used. The car park is flat, well lit and covered by Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) the car park is regularly cleaned and maintained. Please note that there is on road parking available on Capel Crescent if the car park is full.

An excellent nursing home who show great care and empathy at all times. It really is a pleasure to visit and see the care demonstrated at all times.

Nan was transferred here from a different home almost two years ago and I am so happy that she was, the staff here are amazing, they are always very welcoming when I visit and they treat my nan with the utmost respect. I am kept up to date with everything that is going on with her care which is very
important to us.
I love that there is often an event for the residents to which the families are invited to attend, I have had a lovely time at some of them, the most recent one that I could get to was a lovely afternoon with singers and snacks. It was fantastic being able to enjoy that with Nan. We are looking forward to the next one.
All in all, my mind is at rest knowing that, when I cannot be there for her, my nan is safe and well looked after by people who genuinely care.

Mum became a resident at Capel Grange Care Home in October 2022. All the staff have been amazing! Caring, compassionate and very professional. Mum has settled in so well and she is really coming out of her shell, enjoying the activities etc. The standard of care received is excellent and, as a family,

My mother is on the kingfisher unit and I must say each and every one of the staff are really helpful. They go out of their way to help my mum and all of our family. Would highly recommend this care home.

The staff provide personal care that goes beyond what you would expect. I have found all the staff most accommodating in every aspect. I feel that there is a good atmosphere throughout the home which makes the patients feel at ease.

After a period of ill health, we started looking for a nursing home for Mum. Capel Grange Care Home came highly recommended and most of those comments came before we even mentioned the name.
Mum moved in and was a little hesitant in her new surroundings…that didn’t last long! Mum is now socialising
and is even on their residents' committee!
The premises are amazing; super clean, tidy, homely; with no echos of a hospital. It’s bright and cheery and the ‘Capel Grange caring family’ are like no other. Like a well-oiled machine, they are on-hand to support, advise and care - we 100% know Mum is in the very best of hands. All the staff have a knack for attending to things before they are needed, like thinking of a blanket for Mum's legs in her wheelchair, just in case it got a bit chilly when we went into the garden in the early evening…this obviously wasn’t whilst the heatwaves were in full force!
If you are looking for the best, I couldn’t recommend better than Capel Grange.

My father has recently moved into Capel Grange Care Home. He has quite severe dementia but all the staff at Capel Grange have been brilliant with him from day one. All the staff clearly take pride in their work, but it is their desire to do their best for Dad that is most impressive. No matter how difficult
or challenging the circumstances may be, the staff at Capel Grange go the extra mile to try and make Dad as comfortable as possible. The staff clearly understand dementia and how it can affect Dad differently during the course of a day (noting that no two days are the same) and they adjust their care accordingly. Fantastic.
It is heartbreaking to see our dad at this stage in the dementia cycle but is also comforting to know that he is being looked after as best as is possible. I cannot speak highly enough of the entire team at Capel Grange.

Staff and nurses are looking after my mother, who is bed-bound extremely well.
Excellent service. Administration staff and all employees make you feel welcome as soon as you enter the nursing home.

My nan has been living at Capel Grange Care Home since February 2021, it was a decision we didn't want to do but because of her health and disabilities we had no choice. I had never dealt with Caple Grange before and was very concerned as I was the one who cared for her for eleven years and didn't think
anyone could look after her as good as me, but I was completely wrong, staff at Capel Grange have been absolutely amazing with her. There is nothing they won't do to help not only her but me as a family member, if I have questions they will answer them, if they need to do something with her like injections/medication they always contact me, I'm never left out. When I visit her she has this glow about her, she does have her moments but don't we all. There's always plenty of activities for her to get involved in like gardening, singing even bowling, they play bingo and do paintings and many, many more.
After the experience I've had and still having I would definitely recommend this nursing home to anyone.

My elderly father was quite ill when he was accepted into the care home just over twelve months ago. He was given excellent nursing care and attention and gradually his health improved. He is now able to get up and sit in his chair to watch tv or join in events arranged by the home.
Since Covid, family
visits have been very limited and I realise my father’s lack of communication with his family has affected his speech. This improves when we can visit and use the time to encourage him to chat.
He will be 97 on his next birthday and we are very much hoping that the health board will relax visiting so that family and friends can call to see him.
The care home staff have tried hard to keep the virus at bay and understandably have been really busy. They are cheerful and very kind to my father and provide the appropriate personal care to ensure he is clean and tidy. Dad was always fussy about his appearance. He could not be in a better and more caring nursing home.

My husband has resided at Capel Grange Care Home since March 2021, since then I have been visiting him and have been pleased with the support not only for my husband but also for myself from staff. My husband has improved both physically and mentally, his condition on admission was very serious. If
I have any concerns/queries the staff listen and they are dealt with immediately. I have developed a good rapport with the care staff and feel at ease when I have to leave my husband in the care of Capel Grange staff which is very reassuring for me.

I have nothing but praise for this truly outstanding care home and all the staff that work there.
My father moved into Capel Grange in June 2021 and he couldn’t be in a better place. The care he receives is of the highest standard with all his needs being met. Family are well supported too.

Capel Grange is such a wonderful place, always something going on for the residents to engage in. Facilities are great but the staff really do make it an amazing place to be. Nothing is too much trouble and always willing to go the extra mile. Dad is happy and well cared for.

My dear mother has been in Capel Grange for a year and it’s been difficult with Covid…but the staff were very helpful with queries and arranging FaceTime and then garden visits.

Our dad arrived at Capel Grange in his late 60s, having been diagnosed with a degenerative condition, and we are so glad that it is now his home. From our very first contact, staff at Capel Grange have been friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and, most importantly, kind. They have taken time to get to
know Dad as a person and are fantastic in catering for his daily needs, interests and curve balls! Activities are plentiful and are aimed at the elders of today and what interests them - no sitting round singing 'we'll meet again' to be had here! As a family, we cannot fault the staff, they are a fantastic team and it is evident that they all enjoy their work and genuinely care for the elders at Capel Grange. Dad is treated at all times with dignity and respect and always with a huge amount of care and laughter. We cannot sing the praises of Capel Grange enough and would recommend anyone who is thinking of looking at Capel Grange as a home for their loved one to contact the team there.

Moving my mum into a care home was unavoidable and extremely daunting but the staff at Capel Grange made the process as easy as they could. My mum is well looked after and the staff are warm and welcoming and willing to go the extra mile to find out information or assist you. The staff ratio is high,
Capel make a huge effort with resident activities and have kept up family communication throughout the pandemic.
My mum has a good rapport with the staff and they are a happy smiling team, who seem to have good relationships with the residents they care for. The building is purpose-built and spotlessly clean and well decorated.
I feel Capel Grange offer a high standard of care, and although choosing a care home is a very personal decision I would have no hesitation in recommending Capel Grange.
Thanks to the whole team - it's been a comfort to me to know my mum has been so well looked after in these difficult circumstances.

My grandmother has been at Capel Grange for a few years and has been looked after brilliantly. The staff are very experienced, caring and so very supportive - both for my nan and us as a family. The real test came during Covid where the level of care has remained constant and during the period when
we couldn't visit Nan, video calls were scheduled allowing us the opportunity to see and speak to her. The home has remained Covid free and regular tests have been conducted with clear and regular communications to families. More recently pod and indoor visits have commenced where it is clear that Nan has been brilliantly cared for and is content. I cannot recommend this home highly enough - they are superheroes as far as we are concerned. I know the sacrifices during the pandemic that staff made to ensure residents were prioritised and for that, we are eternally grateful. Thank you for everything Capel Grange.

My dad resided at Capel Grange from September 2020 to February 2021, when he sadly passed away.
Due to the pandemic this was an extremely challenging time but the staff who looked after Dad were amazing. The staff were always helpful, friendly and professional.
When we were able to visit the home
it always seemed really clean and a nice atmosphere. I would definitely recommend Capel Grange to anyone making the difficult decision to put a loved one in a care home.

    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4. 10 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.4 = 0.694
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
