My husband was at Ashton Lodge from July 2022 until his recent passing.
During his time there he was very well looked after by all the team of nurses and carers. They were always very kind and encouraging with him and I was kept regularly informed of his progress.
The rooms at Ashton Lodge are a good
size clean and modern and they have very nice facilities for the residents.

My aunt received the best of service and was very well looked after. We could not expect any better. The staff went over and beyond their duties to keep her comfortable and well looked after.

My 95-year-old mother, who suffers with dementia, has been at Ashton Lodge Care Home since 5th June 2023. She is being well looked after by the staff who are very friendly and helpful. She has a nice, spacious room with en-suite facilities and a large window overlooking the busy Kingsbury Road. I am
kept informed and updated on all matters concerning her, particularly in relation to her non-dementia health issues.
My father and I visit her several times a week and we are both treated with respect and attention when we visit.
Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the staff who display care and professionalism at all times. We know she is safe and will be well looked after by all the carers and nurses there.

I have returned to the UK on Friday 30th June 2023 to find my mother lying in her own faeces.
The first thing I noticed was that her face was dirty, and her lips were so dry that her top lip was bleeding. Her ears were so full of wax the left ear was seeping wax. My mother's nostrils were filled with
snot and dried bogies. Mum's socks were covered in faeces: I took pictures and showed the nurse on duty.
This always happens when I am away, as I see my mother every day, unless it is impossible to get there from Lewisham: 15 miles on bike or 1.5 hours minimum on the train.
I have given the nurses and carers the benefit of the doubt too many times, but this is the final straw.
I am now very worried about the care she is receiving and I am reluctant to leave her to look after her affairs abroad.
I had a great relationship with all of the staff at Ashton Lodge, but with a heavy heart, I have to say that they have lost my trust.

Ashton Lodge was contacted by the son, DC on the 3/7/23 to express his unhappiness with regards to his mother’s care while away on holiday. This is the complaint in your possession.
A response was sent with an apology for distress he experienced. We investigated all his concerns.
As explained, his mother is very frail with full limb contractures which complicates movement. She is fully dependent for all activities of daily living including continence care which is scheduled 4 hourly or as required due to her management of constipation with laxatives.
With reference to the wax build-up in his mother’s ears, this is a procedure that is undertaken by the GP or the audiology clinic. This has subsequently been addressed.
We informed him that we were sorry that he felt he needed to find an alternate placement. Ashton Lodge has been providing care to his mother since 5/03/2018 and at her last Care review with NWL ICB on 13/6/23 no issues around care were raised.

Cannot say enough about the care and attention paid to my mother. From reception to staff on the second floor (probably the same all over) and management, just cannot thank the people of Ashton Lodge Care Home enough for all the kindness shown to my mom and family. Thank you.

My uncle has been a resident at Ashton Lodge for about two years and I have had the opportunity of visiting him at least once a month. Every time that I visited I noticed how caring the team at Ashton Lodge were. My uncle was always smiling and looking relatively good given his declining health. Also,
the number of times I was called at home to be updated on some medication or vaccination that my uncle had to do was a clear sign of attention to detail and care. The friendliness and professionalism of the team has always been impressive. It really felt like being within a loving family. For sure the last two years of my uncle have been greatly improved by the kindness and care he received from the team at Ashton Lodge. For me as a visitor too the experience was never a frustrating or unpleasant one, in fact, quite the contrary. There was always a smile and a word of comfort. It is for sure an institution that I highly reccomend both for the professionalism and the humanity.

My father was placed here prior to covid. The staff at the home treated my father with respect and looked after him like he was their own father. Staff would ensure that my father was in touch with me on regular periods (organised visits, face time calls etc) and regular monthly calls from the nurse
regarding my father's conditions or concerns. The room for my father was excellent, clean and tidy, the staff ensure that my father's dietary needs were met. I would highly praise the nursing home and its staff.

I have on several occasions visited the care home and was not able to see/view all of their facilities. Overall it appears a clean and welcoming home. I have not viewed the food menu so I cannot comment. The staff I have dealt with in the office are very understanding. The nurses are reasonable but
more input on a health side would be welcome.

My mum got injured and I cannot get to the bottom of it. The home also admitted they cannot look after dementia patients. I have reported them to the health care ombudsman. Please do not let these people look after your loved ones.

In response to review ID: 1001647 made by a relative of a resident previously placed at Ashton Lodge, we wish to say that our team has been delivering care to a range of complex medical conditions including the various sub types of dementia since its opening in 2010, which includes behaviour that is challenging to manage.
Ashton Lodge works in partnership with other partners of care including mental health team, GP and other professionals of the Multi-Disciplinary team to deliver care where risks are mitigated as much as is possible in the best interest of the residents.
In keeping with our duty of candour, we share all relevant information with the various stakeholders including families with regards to all aspects of the service including the circumstances of any injury.
We are sorry the family felt that their experience did not meet their expectations.

My father spent 8 1/2 years at Ashton Lodge before he sadly passed away in February. During the entire time, the carers and management treated my father with the greatest of respect and dignity and always made sure he was comfortable. To us, it felt like he was treated by all the staff as 'one of the
family'. My mother was a regular visitor - 3/4 times per week (pre-Covid) - and she was always accepted with open arms and nothing was too much for the staff with whatever she asked for or needed. During the last couple of Covid years, the staff were always available on the end of the phone to give us an update, and not once during this period were we concerned that father was not being looked after or cared for properly. All the family would like to thank the entire staff at Ashton Lodge for looking after my father so well and making the last 8 1/2 years a bit easier to bear and we cannot envisage him being in a better place during this time.

My family's experience with Ashton Lodge was absolutely excellent. The staff without exception were kind, courteous, and competent not just in providing care for my Grandpa, but also in helping my Grandma stay in contact, especially during lockdown. My Grandma called almost daily to check-in and everyone
was so kind to her and so patient. My grandpa was always clean and calm and looked very well taken care of whenever I visited. Thank you to all the staff for the exceptional care and kindness you showed my family.

I can’t speak highly enough about Ashton Lodge. My grandfather spent over three years being cared for at this home and the care he received was excellent. It can be a worry leaving a loved one in a care facility, especially during the last few years with the Covid-19 pandemic, but my family and I were
confident that even when we weren’t able to visit my grandfather he was very well looked after. The staff did everything they could for him and for my family as well. We believe he was in the best place he could possibly be and we are extremely grateful for the wonderful staff.

Ashton Lodge is a highly efficiently run care facility offering a high level of professional care to suit a variety of needs. My Aunt’s room was spacious with en-suite facilities, pleasant décor, modern furniture, and a comfortable medical bed. The Management Team were always welcoming, very professional
and knowledgeable, and available to help and listen to and address any concerns. The Carers were dedicated, caring, friendly, and motivated in their roles. The Activity Coordinators were always cheerful and committed to providing endless entertainment for the residents to participate in. They provided meaningful and stimulating activities, encouraged social interaction between residents whilst taking onboard residents' likes/dislikes, abilities, preferences, and needs in order to come up with endless activities and choices to suit everyone. The Cleaning, Laundry, Maintenance, and Kitchen staff did an excellent job behind the scene because Ashton Lodge was run to the highest of standards.

Despite all the difficulties, the staff at the care home have been excellent in looking after my brother. I say staff, but I would prefer to say Family because the care and treatment provided is as good as I would have provided. Whenever I have visited, I have noticed the care taken to ensure the safety
of the resident and the visitor has to be commended throughout the Covid period. Knowing that your loved ones are looked after as you would like to be, going that extra mile to entertain with different activities, birthday celebrations, making time to listen, striving to continuously improve, is credit to the team and the management of Ashton Care Home. I would not hesitate in recommending Ashton Lodge Care Home to anyone.

As availability is a moving feast we did not know when there was space. This is to be expected, once confirmed it all went well. The room are nice with ensuite toilet/shower etc. Staff are helpful, friendly, knowledgeable. I felt very comfortable leaving my mother-in-law in their care.

I will be forever grateful to the carers, support staff, and leadership of Ashton Lodge.
Care - the care during the years my father was in the home was always kind, respectful, and of a high standard. They were always very responsive to suggestions for improvement and invited feedback.
Activities
- the activities were conducted by enthusiastic staff who went the extra mile and ensured they were ethnic appropriate.
End-of-life - so compassionate. Ashton Lodge agreed to allow my dad back from the hospital for his palliative care and enabled my mum to see my dad near the end. When my father passed the staff all escorted him out and made a goodbye speech. They gave him so much dignity. He mattered to them as their family.
Covid - the situation was dealt with very efficiently with clear communication. I was assured my dad was in the best place under the best management to survive.
The home also gave my mum support when she used to visit my dad.

Dad came to Ashton Lodge after he could not be looked after at home any more. When he started at the home, there were difficulties but after a month or so of 1 to 1, he settled and had the best time for his condition.
He enjoyed the food and always was clean and looking well and healthy. The care
home always welcomed us as if in our own home.

My father spent just short of six months at Ashton Lodge before sadly passing away. I was very anxious about him going into a nursing home as he was originally transferred here by the CQC and I hadn't had any involvement. I have to say that I couldn't have chosen better myself. The carers are all
kind and caring and were genuinely concerned when dad wasn't eating or was feeling unwell. He was content there and never complained. I can't thank the team who looked after dad enough.
