My mother suffers with Alzheimers and can be extremely difficult. She can't appreciate that people are trying to help her and can become violent. In my experience, the carers are very patient and understanding of her condition. A few months ago Mum fell and broke her hip. She's had a hip replacement
but is now confined to bed. In spite of this, she is always clean and comfortable whenever I or my sisters have visited.

We were recommended to Ralphland by a close friend whose Mum had been cared for here. Following a fall and no longer being able to be cared for in her home, Mum came to Ralphlands. From day one, the care that was given was exemplary from every member of staff, and although they were busy, nothing was
too much trouble. Mum was here for six months and never once asked to go home. She loved the staff, and they made her final months feel cared for and comfortable. The staff kept us well informed and supported when Mum sadly passed away. We would highly recommend Ralphland.

My dad was on a period of respite at Ralphland care home which led to six months of care, and all I can say is wow! Having worked in the care sector for many years, we were sceptical about him going into a care home. From admission to him going home, we had nothing but positive feedback from him. When
he moved into Ralphland, he was bed bound and lost all mobility but, with the help from the wonderful care staff, he is now back home with his family and so happy and standing. He still says he misses the wonderful care staff. We can’t thank the manageress and care staff enough for all of their help and support for our dad.
Reply from Roche Andreae, Manager at Ralphland Care HomeThank you, for your feedback following your recent experience at our home. We are happy to learn it has been a positive one. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know how we are doing. Have a wonderful day.

Due to my Brother being admitted to the care home from hospital late in the evening, the staff were so excellent in settling him into his room. During his time there, the staff have been magnificent with him, as he can be a bit awkward at times. Every time relatives visit him, we are welcomed with a
smile, thank you.

My mother initially came here for two weeks of respite care in July following a hospital admission. She was weak, confused and had poor mobility. Despite some initial discharge miscommunication between hospital and home, my mum settled and has felt secure.
My mum is 91 and quite a character and has
been welcomed by all the staff at the home. My mum has improved since being here and this is evident when I visit. She feels safe and happy. The food is good and Mum has gained some weight since arriving. The manager is approachable and openly listens to family and resident. The home is clean, tidy and comfortable. My mum is clearly well cared for and the staff are all kind, courteous, friendly and above all respectful to all residents. My mum has since expressed wishes to remain here permanently if possible, which speaks for itself as to how she feels about the care home.

Took my father in today for what is hopefully a short period of respite care after shockingly awful hospital discharge. The manager was brilliant, took time to talk to me about the home and came late on a Saturday to our home to assess and reassure us. My dad is now settled, warm, and the family are
reassured that he is well looked after.

During a previsit, we were impressed by the attitude of the staff, the cleanliness of the home and attention to detail. Once my mother had decided that she would be happy to stay for a two week respite period, the pre-information paperwork was completed in a professional and caring manner.
On day
one, our mother was made to feel welcome by the staff and we left her happily talking to a few ladies while enjoying a refreshing fruit drink. Her room was well laid out and had a lovely view towards “The Stump”.
On collection, we found mum in the lounge area with a drink, chatting to a group of people and we immediately thought she looked refreshed. We asked if she had had a nice time and she confirmed she had and that the food was delicious. Once all the goodbyes had been said she returned to her home, on route saying she would like to go again. Thank you to all staff for making her stay enjoyable.
Reply from Helen Pichel-juan, Manager at Ralphland Care HomeThank you Malcolm, we do hope to see your mother again in the future. It was good to meet you all.

Placing my mother in a care home was not an easy decision. Ralphland Care Home made that decision slightly easier. The moment I walked through the door it felt homely. No care home smells, which is a big thing when looking for somewhere. The manager is lovely and welcoming and cares about making
you feel welcome and comfortable.
Since my mother has been in there she has settled in really nicely. She has gone from being almost a recluse to someone who joins in with activities and has a lovely group of friends. The staff are kind and caring and give gentle encouragement when needed.
I could not be more pleased with this care home, that's Care with a capital C. It has given me and my family peace of mind.

I was deeply impressed by the responsiveness of the management at Ralphland when I needed help urgently over a bank holiday. They came and assessed my mother and then found a room for her within hours. The care level was also very good and I want to thank all at Ralphland for their support and empathy
at just the time it was needed.

My Nanan stayed at Ralphland's Care Home for about 2 months last year and she couldn't have been in a better place. The staff were very attentive and catered to her every need - no matter what that was.
When she was able, she enjoyed taking part in the activities and there was always good food on
offer. The facilities, and her room, in particular, were ample for her needs, which became greater as she became more ill.
The Management and staff were always available to help and would listen to all and any concerns and provide feedback whenever necessary. All in all, an excellent place with good food, good activities and great staff.

From the time my wife went into Ralphland I felt if she was royalty, she couldn't have been treated any better! The staff quickly understood her needs and she was made to feel very much at home and at ease. I would definitely recommend Ralphland for anyone who was looking for either respite or long-term
care for the excellence of care and understanding and for the efficiency of the way the home is run. They are 100% focused on the needs of the residents.

I would highly recommend this care home to anybody looking for either daycare or respite as my mother has used both services and I feel able to comment on these. Due to her illness, my mum suffers certain anxiety issues. All the staff are aware of this and go above and beyond to reassure her and make
sure that her time with them is not only enjoyable but calm and safe feeling. The manager is absolutely brilliant. She is so approachable and proactive and I have the utmost faith in her when it comes to the care of my mum.

My Mum was admitted to Ralphland in April 2017. We found the staff very welcoming and patient with Mum who had dementia. Her room was kept spotless and was very well equipped to deal with her needs. Mum enjoyed the variety of foods available and there was always someone there to help when she was
having difficulties feeding herself or going to the toilet. Although Mum wasn’t able to join in all the activities, she especially liked having her nails painted. All staff were quick to react when Mum became ill and she was referred to the doctor/hospital as required. I would highly recommend Ralphland to anyone who finds themselves needing care facilities for their loved ones.

My mother first came into the home as a respite case as we had double booked holidays with my sister and her husband. Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.606)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.606) out of 10 for Ralphland Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.856 for Ralphland Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (101 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 118 Ratings = 4.856
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ralphland Care Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Roche Andreae-Toyer

Job Title: Home Manager

My role is to ensure all our residents receive high-quality care and are treated with dignity and respect.”

Roche has worked in the Health and Social Care Sector for 14 years. Upon starting an apprenticeship at Ralphland care home when she was 17, Roche realised that her career lay in a care role, which is why she continued to develop her career within the sector. Roche has care management experience in Nursing and Residential care and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of her residents as well as her team members.

Why did you decide to return to Ralphland Care home as Home Manager? I was pleased to find there was a great support network. The company provided clear directions and expectations for team members.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I love that I can help people to make positive changes in their lives and help them achieve their goals. It’s also great that I can utilise my leadership skills by being a supportive manager to my fantastic team. I believe being a positive role model empowers, not only my team members but our residents too. I find this helps to build up their confidence, self-worth, motivation and drive. My commitment to my roles ensures all our residents receive high-quality care and are treated with dignity and respect. Throughout my career, I have upheld these values and principles. This has led to me witnessing many positive life-changing situations.

What are your favourite hobbies and pastimes? I love music and like to attend various venues and an eclectic mix of artists up and down the country. I’m also very family-orientated so I’ll often be found with relatives and friends in my downtime.

Are there any highlights in your career you are particularly proud of? For more than 6 years, I worked as a Nursing home Deputy Manager for Four Seasons Health Care. During my time there, I was proud of the development of my career. This lead me to be recognised as Deputy Manager of the year in the Wigan and Leigh hospice care home award 2021. To be a non-clinical deputy manager and win this award was a great achievement and extremely rare. I believe I flourished in my role due to having a positive impact on our residents’ care and the service we provided.
