I find the care provided to my mother to be of a very high standard. The care staff are kind and helpful. There is always a nice atmosphere in the home. The manager and deputy manager are professional whilst still being friendly and approachable. Any concerns are dealt with appropriately and in a timely manner.
The home is always clean and tidy, and my mother's room is always clean and fresh.

I cannot fault anything about Oak House.

I am very happy with the care my mother is receiving at Oak House Care Home. She has come along with her health. She is always happy whenever I come to see her. She always says good things about the staff. The staff are very nice and they go out of their way to make sure she has everything she needs. She also made lots of friends. I could not wish for a lovely place for her to stay.

Thank you to all staff.

Review from S G (Cousin of Resident) published on 28 November 2019 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

On Friday 8th November 2019 I visited my cousin at Oak House. On meeting my cousin I noticed a smell of body odour, I asked if she had been showered that morning, answer - she gets up early so the night staff 'could have showered her'. On Sunday 3rd November my cousin had fallen in her room and broke her collarbone, asked where the sling was, answer we have tried 6 times and she keeps taking it off, asked if I could try and get her to keep it on, they did not know where the sling was, not in the office, found it in my cousin's room. I could not work out how to put on the new style slings, neither could the staff, so they looked it up online and found the instructions. Noticed two rings missing, asked if they had been put away for safekeeping after her fall, could only find one in the safe. Went to my cousin's room, there was very little shampoo in the bottle, no soap, no shower gel, no deodorant, could not find any of the four hair brushes she has. These toiletries are taken to my cousin on a regular basis and the home has been asked if she runs out of anything please inform us, or could they please purchase and take monies out of my cousins pocket money which is held at the home. Sunday 10th November my cousin had another fall and spent the night in the hospital.

My father is very happy here.

His care needs are met in a timely and appropriate manner. In the two and a half years he has been here, my brother and I have been satisfied with Oak House as his care provider. Whenever we have had any reason to discuss anything, the team have been accommodating and thorough. We hope dad's requirements do not diminish into something more challenging and that he can spend the remainder of his days enjoying the service.

Review from Peter B (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 2 October 2019 Submitted via Website

My mother in law was admitted at Oak House for respite while my wife and myself were on Holiday, she has dementia. When we arrived home and visited I could not believe what a run down dump this place is. Everything looked filthy, I could see straight away that is why the food hygiene notice on the door is was 1 - 2 stars. Every time I did visit my mother in law was always on her own, the staff don't seem to bother with the patients they are all more interested in going out for a fag. That shows in the garden area when we have gone outside with fag ends everywhere. The last time I was there the staff offered my father in law and myself a coffee, what a mistake, the cups they gave us looked as if they had just come up from a coal mine, black and dirty. She started to get a little aggressive which is all part of the illness and this home advertise as dementia specialists but now wanted to get rid of her. The staff never informed us she was not taking her medication, the manager did not care less.

The care my mother is receiving from the staff at Oak House is excellent. Nothing is to much trouble and it is like a home from home. The staff are all very kind and friendly. It is good to know my mum is safe and being looked after in this way. I would recommend Oak House to anybody looking for a home for a elderly person.

My mum-in-law stayed here recently for respite. On the two occasions, she was there staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble and all her needs were met. We had complete confidence in them and know that she was in safe hands which gave us peace of mind.

My dad has been made so welcome by the staff at Oak House. He is happy, safe and well looked after, they treat him with respect and are always available to help him should he ask for anything. The staff are so caring and helpful and make sure us, as a family, are informed of anything if it happens. They interact well with him, and his room is always clean and tidy. All staff including the housekeepers, carers, management and kitchen staff all do a fantastic job. They all work as a team together. They make us feel as if we mean something to them and are not just another person paying for the pleasure of being looked after. It is a pleasure to spend time there and I always leave there happy knowing that my dad is safe.

My grandmother has been a resident in 2 previous care homes and I cannot express how highly I recommend Oak House. The care and compassion shown to my nan is second to none. The food is outstanding, the home is clean and well presented and nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. I really appreciate all you've done for my nan even though she's currently in hospital.

My Mum, sister and myself could not be more pleased with Oak House, it's changed all our lives in the best way possible particularly for our Mum, who suffers from WMD, Dementia and is hard of hearing.

Mum is coming up to 97, and moved into Oak House this August, after a hospital stay. In her own words her first impression was I am in a beautiful building and have a delightful large living room, that's now my home'. She has the full support of helpful, friendly staff, and seems more relaxed and her old self, than she has been for awhile, so all credit to everyone there for their empathy, humour and dedication to detail that Mum receives every day, at a constant high level of care and well-being.

Staff respond to arising medical issues, efficiently.

Meals are well-balanced, home cooked, and there is a good choice of menu for Mum to choose from. Encouragement is given, and there is always a welcome cuppa for her family and visitors.

I felt it was the right time to write a review regarding the staff and manager of Oak House. I have had a few relatives in care/residential homes going back many years and none have been as friendly and dedicated as the staff here. They go out of their way for their residents, they are given a choice of food for breakfast/dinner and tea. They are taken out around the park in good weather and are given continued exercise. My uncle's room is alway clean, tidy and smells fresh.

I cannot praise them highly enough, they go above and beyond their duty and would recommend anyone have their loved ones reside at Oak house.

I would say "keep up the good work" but you always do.
