Overall Experience

My husband came to Balhousie Coupar Angus at the beginning of November 2021. He has settled in very well and is so well cared for that I have no worries about him at all. The carers and management are always so approachable and ready to answer any queries I may have. Even during lockdown times, I was able to speak to him on the phone, so no quality times were lost. I have a 40-mile round trip to visit but will never move him anywhere else.

This means a lot to us, thank you. Lockdown has been tough for everyone and we're glad that you were still able to have quality 'time' with your husband.

Overall Experience

Our cousin was a resident at Coupar Angus Balhousie. During her stay there she was treated kindly and affectionately by all the staff. We always felt she was in a safe and caring environment. Although my cousin's stay was quite short the staff managed to make her birthday special even though the home was in lockdown. We appreciate the special care she was given during her last week before she succumbed to her illness. We always felt she received quality care along with affection and tenderness. We are grateful to the manager and all her staff for the kindness shown to my cousin.

My granny loved living in the home. She enjoyed everything from staff treating her like she was one of their family to singing along to the Scottish songs on a smart speaker! Staff got to know our family well and did their utmost to support us when my granny was in palliative care. The staff were attentive and I can't rate them high enough.

Overall Experience

My husband had been a resident here since December 2017. He had excellent care, physically and mentally. The staff cared for him beyond “it's my job” and were very understanding and sympathetic towards the family too. Latterly, my husband was in Abbey Suite and any interests or moods were very sympathetically dealt with. He loved dancing and the staff would encourage him, anytime music was on. There was no hesitation to give me a bed in my husband's room for his last week. My daughter and son were allowed access to come and sit with me, during that time. It was wonderful to be with him as it was obvious he couldn't be at home. My daughter, son and grandchildren were treated as one of the family, when they visited and we were so fortunate to choose this particular home. What a treasure the staff are. I still pop in for a visit because I also provide knitting to be passed on to Ninewells Hospital and I am treated in such a friendly manner.

Lovely home. Building clean and roomy. Most staff lovely and caring. One or two who prefer their phones to work. My mum well looked after. Food, entertainment, everything wonderful - amazing since there has been little management. I have never seen or been spoken to by a manager as there seems to never be one! So staff should be rewarded for keeping this home running so well without management.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the home itself is pleasant to visit. I like the fact there are quiet areas where we can sit and chat and not have to stay in the room or in the lounge where the television is. On the whole, the home seems to be well run and the standard of care very good.

Although generally, Balhousie is OK, the staffing levels appear to be low, therefore carers don't have the time to sit with the residents - especially in their rooms. Usually, they are in to help to the toilet and out again. The food also appears to be rather boring. It's Tuesday so it must be macaroni type thing - maybe the cook should stop spending under her allowance and "up the antie".

Reply from Gail Melville, Marketing Assistant and Dementia Ambassador at Coupar Angus Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. It is always really important for us to hear and we take your observations on board. We are working hard on our teams and creating great environments to live and work. We are still developing our home where the culture follows that of Balhousie Care’s values and ethos.
