A fabulous, caring, "family" atmosphere. My mother has been a resident of Blandford Grange Care Home for nearly a year and in this time, has received the highest standard of care and understanding, even in the most difficult of times. I am, along with the rest of my family, extremely grateful for the
care my mother has and is having. Thank you.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Blandford Grange Care HomeThese are really very kind words and we cannot thank you enough. As you recognise, we strive to be a family home and to make our residents feel part of that family. Our care is provided by a wonderful bunch of carers all of whom set themselves the highest standards because they want to provide outstanding care and I am really pleased that you have identified this in your review.
Once again, thank you so much for your lovely words.

My mother-in-law has recently moved to this care home and it is the best home that she has been a resident in (after four other homes over the last six and half years). The care is excellent and all staff are courteous and helpful and keep us updated on her well-being.
It has a calm and relaxing atmosphere
and she has never been so well cared for. Despite her having dementia, she is kept active and involved in all activities which take place on a daily basis.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Blandford Grange Care HomeThank you for taking the time to complete this review, it is really heartening to hear that you are so happy with the care here. We try to be a home-from-home and pride ourselves on the way staff really look after our residents, we want to make everyone welcome and happy and it is really a wonderful compliment when this is recognised. I will pass your lovely words on to all the staff who try so hard to make this an outstanding care home. Thank you again for this wonderful review.

Christmas was brilliant, couldn't do enough for us. The staff were happy, laughing caring. Always laughing, always smiling. A very happy place, like a comfy blanket. The care is brilliant. Management always ready to talk with you. Staff are always helpful. I know my husband is safe and well cared for.
Nothing is too much trouble. The manager is a very hands-on, happy person. He's made a huge difference since he started. I can't praise him enough. He really cares about the people in his care and this is passed on through his staff.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Blandford Grange Care HomeI cannot thank you enough for your high praise of the home, the staff are a fantastic bunch who take great pride in the care they provide. I am not sure we have ever been called a "comfy blanket" but it is a description I will happily take for the home and the committed staff who work here. We aim to make a real difference in the lives of everyone who lives with us and with their families because you are all OUR family. I will pass your description on to all the staff with whom I am sure it will raise another smile.
Thank you again for those really kind words.

I would like to thank everyone who acted so quickly to my dad on Monday this week and looked after my mum who was upset with all that was going on. All the staff called into his room after and checked he was okay. You've got a good team of workers that pulled together... It really made us realise that
we did the right thing in placing Dad with you all.
Thank you very much.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Blandford Grange Care HomeThank you for this review, we are a family here and we will always check in to make sure everyone in the Blandford family is ok, it may be Dad who is the resident but you and your mum are part of our family as well.
To hear you say you "did the right thing" is the highest compliment you could pay us and we are very grateful that we can make you feel that way with the care we provide.
Thank you again for your kind words.

My dad came into your care in 2019. I cannot express my gratitude to your dedicated staff for their care for him. The respect they showed my dad was impeccable. My dad passed away on 20th September 2023. The staff who was with him when he passed, I will forever be grateful as I couldn't be with him,
unfortunately. Thank you all so very much on behalf of myself and my husband for the way we were treated and felt as if we were part of your family.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Blandford Grange Care HomeI cannot thank you enough for these words. We are committed to making every resident and their loved ones special. I am so glad that this has shone through for you. We are always sad to lose a member of our Blandford Grange family, but we hope that we went the extra mile and made a difference. I will be sure to share your kind words with all of our staff. Once again, thank you for these wonderful comments.

My first visit to see my grandmother has been lovely.
Lovely staff who were friendly and helpful.
Very clean and airy room.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Blandford Grange Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review the home.
We are really pleased that you found the outstanding staff, were so nice and friendly. We try to make every visit special and are glad you felt that you were welcomed to our home.
We hope we can make all of your visits as good as the first.
We do have large mostly ensuite (shower, toilet and sink) rooms here in comparison to many other places, and we believe that this means people can feel really settled and at home,e which can only be a benefit.
Thank you again for your kind words.

My mother has been a resident at Blandford Grange for 8 weeks. The staff are professional, knowledgeable and caring. From what I have observed when visiting, they treat all the residents with compassion and dignity. They attend to her needs with a gentleness even when it is not easy. The management,
admin, hospitality staff are all friendly and welcoming and keep me informed of any changes. I cannot comment on activities as my mother does not engage with them but apparently, the Coronation party was a great success and enjoyed by all who were there. I would recommend Blandford Grange to anyone looking for a genuine, well-run nursing home.

My mother was transferred here from the hospital at the beginning of March. At first, we were encouraged by the fact that this is a modern care home that seems to be providing care at the required standard. However, as time went by we became aware of a lack of information and communication. This was
especially during the period that the home had Covid, when we were not kept abreast of the results that affected the visiting arrangements. Having been in the home a month the initial assessment was sent to the CHC Group without consultation or provision of a copy. We were told that there was no chance of us receiving funding because her needs were not great enough. Rather belatedly we have now been informed by the CHC that she is eligible for Nursing Care Funding although, as yet, the home has not made us aware of this. We have now moved my mother to a Care Home nearer to us and so far we have to say that the experience is totally different with much improved communication.
Reply from Tilla Wagner, Home Manager at Blandford Grange Care HomeWe are very grateful for your feedback, and we are sorry to hear you have not found our service up to your expectations. We reflect on each feedback and suggestions received to ensure lessons learned for the benefit of our service, residents and staff.

My mother has been at the care home for coming up to 7 years now. Having a parent with dementia is heartbreaking and I have watched her slowly retreat into not being able to speak or move. I live in London and whenever I visit I go with such a heavy heart knowing she's unable to understand what is going
on BUT without fail I leave feeling comforted she is in such good caring hands.
I visited a couple of months ago and quite rightly they were very strict about visits - taking lateral flow tests - wearing masks, gloves, aprons and restricting the visit to 20 mins outside - I felt safe and happy to be there. Even though my mum can't react to me being there she looked clean and well looked after.
The carers here are exceptional - I know I couldn't do their job and I am full of respect for them and all they do for our families and I'm sure for a low wage. If you do ever have to put a relative into a home this is the one for them.
Reply from Tilla Wagner, Home Manager at Blandford Grange Care HomeThank you very much for taking the time to write a review of our home. It is very pleasing to read that you feel your mother is looked after well and that you are comforted by that knowledge. Our staff take great pride in the care they provide to our residents who are very much part of our own extended families. Your kind words will certainly be passed on to the staff who are looking after your mother.

I understand the difficulty in being excepted into a care home, we had to fight tooth and nail to get our lovely mum in there.
Mum deserved the very best we could do for her and believe me, that's exactly what she received from the manager and all the staff at Blandford Grange. It is so apparent that
this isn't just their job, they are such caring lovely people and I felt safe in leaving our mum in their hands.
Thank you all from me and the family.

Very difficult to make a full review as I have never been into the home all the time my sister was a resident there. Care seemed a little lacking at first but it improved vastly over the latter months.
Reply from Tilla Wagner, Home Manager at Blandford Grange Care HomeThank you very much for taking the time offering a review of the care we offered toward your sister for her time with us. It is sad that due to restrictions, you could not properly see the levels of care that we ensured were received. But as you mention, the overall care resulted in huge delight for us as a team, to watch your sister walk from the building of her own accord when she left to return home.
We were humbled to have the opportunity to assist her with her care needs to gain such a result. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance again going forward. Many Thanks

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.455)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.455) out of 10 for Blandford Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.455 for Blandford Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (156 Excellents x 5) + (64 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 246 Ratings = 4.455
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Blandford Grange Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Receptionist

The second I walked into Blandford Grange it felt like a home away from home, the staff have an infectious attitude, and the residents and relatives are truly amazing. There is never a dull moment, and you never know what each day will bring! I couldn’t imagine a better place to work. I love being able to interact with our residents, relatives and team at the front of the house at reception.
