My husband has been a service user for over 2 years during which time his dementia has worsened. The staff are very kind and caring and put up with a lot in a sensitive way. They are quick to react and sort matters quickly and quietly. He is involved with activities with the full support of staff. I
feel happy he is safe and well cared for.

I don't sit at home worrying if my husband is being looked after. I know 100% he has the best care I can ask for. When I walk in and he is sat with the carers and he has a beaming smile from ear to ear that tells me how happy he is too.

Berkeley House is a lovely nursing home, in fact, it is a home from home, very clean too. The carers are so kind and treat my husband with respect and also make life fun for him.
During lockdown, I haven't been able to visit but I have peace of mind knowing he is well cared for.

Berkeley House with regards to the level of care, my wife and I cannot praise the management team and staff in the way this care home is run. We both have great respect for the manner our daughter is cared for, and this applies to all other service users. Again, I can on say how pleased we are that
we have our daughter in such a wonderful place as Berkeley House. As we know when we both leave this world behind our daughter will remain happy and content in this home.

I have been absolutely delighted on every occasion we visited our friend in Berkeley House. We are the only remaining people with a vague family connection and yet have been treated with real respect and our views have been welcomed on all issues. The care at Berkeley House is first-rate. It is a relatively
new facility and it is clear that the bar has been set very high! I have been most impressed by the caring attitude of the management who display an excellent knowledge of the circumstances of individual residents. The care staff are very friendly and have built up wonderful relationships with many of the residents, including my friend/family connection. The en suite rooms are really nice, as are the lounges in each of the buildings. I would recommend this home very highly indeed.

I am so pleased with the care my mum has received over the past four weeks. My mum has settled right in and is making solid relationships with carers.
My mum's speech and mobility have also improved loads so we can see the time and determination the staff are putting in.

In the 5 years, my sister has been a resident she has been well looked after and appears to be happy and settled. Staff are patient and caring despite her unfortunate mental and physical problems. Staff will always phone me if any aspect of her care needs to be reviewed.

My experience has been great. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming, they respect and allow my mum to keep her dignity and make her feel like she has control over her choices - food, activities etc.

The approach they have is amazing and is not aggravating as they respect your choices.

I thought Berkeley House and all staff and carers could not excel any more. They have much to my delight due to my son living there.
All through July they have helped, coaxed and assisted my son to join in ten-pin bowling. They have made sure staff were available on Sundays to take residents who wanted
to go to church, but the most amazing thing happened last week, one of the male carers took my son to the baths.
Fantastic, can't tell you how pleased I was.
Also his personal care, hair cut regularly and trimmed moustache.
I am so pleased how smart he is I could shout it from the rooftops.

I feel the majority of staff are dedicated to making life good for the service users. But I feel that the support workers need more training to help them understand what difficulties that some service users are suffering. I know it is a very difficult job but it needs professionalism, caring and understanding
of the service users problems and difficulties. At the moment the manager, who is a caretaking manager until another, full-time manager, is appointed. She is a very caring and understanding person but she is trained very highly and of course, this is a necessity along with all professionals within this service. You cannot work properly in this kind of work unless you understand.

Current Review Score: 7.5 (7.490)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.5 (7.490) out of 10 for Berkeley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.261 for Berkeley House is calculated as follows: ( (7 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 4.261
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.229 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Berkeley House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 96 registered maximum number of service users is 19.2. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 19.2 = 0.104
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
