My dad, who suffered from advanced dementia, received excellent care from very friendly, cheerful, kind and attentive staff. When more mobile, he enjoyed sitting in the lounge and eating his meals in the dining room. When he became bedbound, the staff ensured he was safe and comfortable, looking after
all his medical and personal needs. He was very well cared for by a fantastic team who did an amazing job. I can't thank them enough.

My dad is well cared for here. The staff are lovely and always smiling. They are very caring and patient. My dad is enjoying living here and enjoys the many activities they put on. He enjoys the food and is eating well. He has a nice large room with a view out. It's always clean and tidy. The lounge
is a pleasant place to sit and has a friendly, homely feel, and staff are always on hand. I feel happy that my father is in a safe and comfortable place and is so well looked after.

Our relative is very happy here, especially as her friends are able to visit her and she feels included in village life. She is receiving excellent care and is delighted that her leg ulcers have been cured after many years of NHS neglect and thick bandages. The staff are very friendly and caring and
do all they can to make her comfortable and happy. This is a huge relief for us as we live 150 miles away and can only visit once a month.

The treatment Mum has at Church View has been very kind and professional. Staff have a lot of patience with Mum who has dementia and can be very demanding and difficult. Staff who work with Mum, especially the team leader are great and the activity team in persuading Mum to join in with activities.
The assistant manager always answers any emails or questions promptly and I get regular updates if she is 'Resident of the day'.

Poor communication, for example, no notification of change, of change of manager or change of ownership, condescending communication advising resident is resident of the day, when bedbound and cannot participate in any activities, just because she has put weight on.
Cannot comment on activities or
value for money.
Reply from Cliff Grand-Scrutton, Director/Registered Manager at Church View Care HomeThank you for your review and apologise if you did not receive the communications that were sent out via letter and email explaining the change of ownership. I would like to invite you to contact me so we can have the opportunity to discuss your concerns. We also have resident's family meetings where it is possible you can raise your points. Please get in touch and thank you for your comments which we do take seriously and will act upon any improvements that are needed.

My father has been a resident at Church View Care Home for six years now. Although he is bedbound, since his admission, the staff have maintained his skin integrity throughout. Despite having advanced dementia, he still tells us that he enjoys his meals, he especially enjoys the fresh fruit he is given
on a regular basis. We understand that our dad finds it very difficult to accept personal care because he is a proud man and still thinks he can care for himself, the staff manage this very well, even though it is a challenge for them. We know he is cared for and he is settled in his home. Thank you.

My experience with Church View Care Home is very positive. All the staff are very caring, always smiling and very attentive to my ex-husband. They know all about him and keep us informed all the time. Always asking about his needs, what he likes and everything to make his stay here pleasant. Keep constant
communication with his GP and give him his medication. He eats all the food, he must like it. They are always watching him because he is frail and could fall. They take him for little walks. All in all, excellent staff.

Church View Care Home has improved immensely since new owners have taken over. Mum has always been well looked after and is happy in her own 'dementia world'. Activities and music are well received, my mum is encouraged to participate in everything. Facilities are being refurbished, looking good for

All facilities are excellent. Staff are caring and carry out their duties with enthusiasm.
Room and cleanliness are very good.
The only disappointing factor is the sub-standard food served for the main meals. Food has to be brought in to sustain the appetite of the resident.
Otherwise, a good all-round
performance.

Obviously, there has been a change of management recently so it is early to comment, although they do seem to have plans to address a number of things including the garden and decoration which have started. The cleanliness has always been good and in the main, the staff have been very good and kind.
The main failure before was poor activities, which have improved a good idea,l and lack of investment. The previous manager was quite rude and would not take up suggestions. I hope the staff will get some good feedback, cleaners, cooks, carers, activity staff are all good. My ratings reflect the last three or four months of improvement.

It was a hard decision to put Mum in a home but, following a stroke, it had to be done. We visited Church View Care Home and were immediately impressed with the care and kindness shown to residents. Mum is always clean, tidy and well-tended to.
It was her 100th birthday this year and the staff at Church
View went above and beyond to make it a wonderful day for her.

Dad was admitted to Church View from hospital. His previous residential home failed to recognise a chest infection, which meant hospitalization for treatment. Dad has been in Church View for eighteen months now and the care and attention he has received has been very good. He has dementia and reduced
mobility and since being here he has developed further chest infections and various ailments, but these have been dealt with promptly and I received immediate notification of any issues and actions taken by the staff.
The last year, during lockdown, we had regular video calls and the staff member making the calls encouraged Dad to engage with myself and his wife, which was not always easy.
Dad receives regular chiropody, haircuts, and is always clean and smart when we see him. He suffered with very dry skin prior to admission, but through good care, his skin is hydrated and amazing now. The staff and manager are friendly and approachable. As a qualified nurse myself, I would highly recommend.

The home took wonderful care of my mum receiving palliative care here. She was only here for six weeks before she died but she was very well looked after whilst she was here receiving palliative care medication.

During the past year, I can only give thanks to everyone providing care for my husband. The safety of residents and carers must be a priority but for relatives and friends being unable to visit has and continues to be distressing. The video calls are a welcome lifeline and I can see my husband appears
content and comfortable which gives me comfort. Also knowing I can approach staff if any concerns. They have done so much to ensure everyone's care is paramount. A lovely memory of summer was the Macmillan fundraiser.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.763)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.763) out of 10 for Church View Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.763 for Church View Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (214 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 245 Ratings = 4.763
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Church View Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 78 registered maximum number of service users is 15.6, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
