My husband had a complex neurological condition - the little known progressive supranuclear palsy. He spent the last month of his life in Soham Lodge and received outstanding care from very competent and caring staff. The home manages a homely environment alongside excellent nursing care. I have looked
at and been involved with several nursing homes over the last twenty years and believe Soham Lodge to be outstandingly good.
Reply from Tanya Pover, Administrator at Soham LodgeDear Julie,
Thank you so much for your very kind words. It was our pleasure to have the opportunity to care for your husband and we wish you well for your future.

I have found Soham Lodge certainly strives to keep their standards high in all aspects. Having had experiences with other homes with aged mothers, Soham Lodge is by far the best. My sister has been resident now into the third year with a deteriorating illness and appears content, clean and well cared
for. The staff have been particularly helpful and caring over the past 6 months that have been particularly difficult for us as a family.
Reply from Tanya Pover, Administrator at Soham LodgeThank you so much for your kind words. I will share with all the staff. It is always a pleasure to see you when you visit.

It’s such a hard decision to move someone into a care home, but my mum’s Alzheimer’s meant that it just wasn’t possible to care for her at home any more. She moved into another care home initially but is now at Soham Lodge and the care she receives there is excellent.

The staff are committed, thoughtful

and efficient and their respect and care for the residents is very evident. Communication is excellent and the home itself is spotlessly clean, comfortable and has much more communal space and nicer rooms than any other home I’ve visited.

My aunt also spent a short time in the care home after a fall left her unable to live independently, she was also full of praise for the home, which she thought was a lovely hotel with wonderful staff.

Huge thanks to all at Soham Lodge, I have such respect for what you all do. I highly recommend the care home and wouldn’t have my mum living anywhere else.

Reply from Tanya Pover, Proprietor at Soham LodgeThank you so much for your kind words. I will cascade your review to all the carers so that they are also aware of how highly they are thought of.

My husband had Alzheimer's and Lewy Body Dementia. He moved into Soham Lodge Nursing Care Home in September 2012. He was a resident there until he passed away on January 1st 2016. The care he received was wonderful. We were made to feel we were part of a big family. Nothing was too much trouble and
we, as a family, had that same care and support from all the staff, kitchen staff, laundry, housekeepers, nurses, carers and management.
Some days I was in tears when I left my husband and the management never let me drive home until I had a cup of team with them and got myself together again.
The last week my husband was there I didn't like going home because it meant so much to me to be with him when he took his last breath.
The room next door to him was empty and the owner of the home said I could stay in that room as I wanted. How wonderful and kind. One of my daughters also had another room for her Dad's last two nights.
My other daughter has two children and they were welcomed into the home. They loved visiting their Grandad and also joining in with the activities.
All residents were included in the daily activities whatever each one was capable of doing. Great stimulation was given to them every day.
When my husband passed away I felt lost and not needed so much. I needed to keep myself busy and I wanted to pay something back to the home so I decided to be a volunteer one day a week helping with activities. As bingo caller, making residents drinks and generally chatting to the residents, helping with trips out and special days eg., garden fete, Christmas fayre, coffee mornings and any other fundraising events.
Another very important thing I would like to say is the home is always kept spotless and always smells clean and fresh. No horrible aromas.
All residents are kept clean and smart too. A shower or bath every day and clean clothes on every day.
If anyone needs a good nursing care home I will always recommend Soham Lodge.

In my opinion, Soham Lodge is a superb nursing/care home. Distraught at the prospect of putting mum in a nursing home, I was wary of Soham Lodge when I first visited. True, I had heard very good things about it by word of mouth (always a good sign), but I wondered how an ex-motel on the edge of one
of the busiest roads in the area could possibly be the right place for my mum in the final stages of her life.
It was clear to me within 5 minutes of being shown around that Soham Lodge was the right place for mum. Clean, safe, beautifully equipped, homely, fully staffed with a very low staff turnover - which is a huge consideration, and small enough to be truly personal (only 30 beds). The critical thing is the standard of care. Well, mum is now a very happy resident and all I can say is yes, the staff in Soham Lodge really do care and it shows. As a carer remarked: " I love what I do. Carers who do not really enjoy their work are not employed here". Enough said.
Reply from Tanya, Administrator at Soham LodgeDear Chris, thank you on behalf of all the staff here at Soham Lodge for your extremely kind words and the time you took to post your review. It is a pleasure to have your Mum with us and I can assure that she will be kept as happy and comfortable as possible by all the wonderful staff here.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.551)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.551) out of 10 for Soham Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.776 for Soham Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (98 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 125 Ratings = 4.776
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Soham Lodge is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
