Overview

The Review Score of 7.8 (maximum of 10) for The Chestnut Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4 out of 5 from 6 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Chestnut Lodge in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.028 for The Chestnut Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (27 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.028

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Chestnut Lodge is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5

    2. Target of 12 positive Reviews (60 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 12 Target = 0.250

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

7.8 The Chestnut Lodge has a Review Score of 7.8 (7.778) from 6 Reviews

This is an update to my earlier review as my sister has now been at Chestnut Lodge for nearly 2 years. Although very well cared for, her mental deterioration has been rapid and I personally as her brother and sole blood relative and Legal Power of Attorney have found it difficult to watch her decline.
The home and the staff have gone out of the way to help me cope with my sister’s decline and in particular her ever-increasing anxiety when there is nothing to be anxious about. I have found solo visits very hard of late and the staff have been very helpful. Some of the building improvements do seem to have taken a long time to finish but the home looks to have a healthy financial future which is good as my dear sister could be there for a long time. She would sadly not be at all safe in the real world now. Support for “Carers” once relatives go into a home does concern me and were it not for the staff at Chestnut Lodge and the resident doctor, I would feel very unsupported in my role as her Legal Power of Attorney. Thank you for helping me!

I find the home to be very friendly and the staff very approachable.
Any issues I've had have been dealt with very quickly and very well.
My mother has been at Chestnut Lodge for 2 and a half years, she is happy, well looked after and settled.
She has a good connection with all of the staff and is often joking and laughing with them.
Her room is always clean and tidy as is the rest of the home.
Drinks and snacks are always available.

The home has gone downhill. Management overall is not good, needs a big improvement. Staff shortage and cleanliness could be better at times, as can activities.

I hold POA for my cousin who could no longer live in her own home as she became increasingly anxious and likely to wander. Chestnut Lodge made a transfer as simple as possible and were helpful throughout. My cousin has now been resident there for nearly 3 months. She looks well and the staff take a personal interest too. The home is clean and well run. Meals are good and visitors welcome. Dementia is a horrible illness and my cousin is understandably very frustrated sometimes. The home appears to be dealing with this well.

Having had an unfortunate experience at his previous home we were a little apprehensive at him being moved to The Chestnut Lodge. We were delighted at this lovely home. The manager is a delight, a straight forward and understanding person. She and her wonderful team know exactly the type of approach needed in this Dementia environment. Consequently, he has settled well and all his needs are cared for. I cannot express how happy and delighted we are that he is in such a caring home. The Manager and her team do an outstanding job. May I also say how fresh and clean the home is and we love the atmosphere so happy and bright. A HUGE thank you all who work so so hard to maintain this wonderful home.

My father went to Chestnut Lodge with dementia in February 2015. He was incontinent and virtually wheel chair bound. My mother although fit and well, was struggling despite 2x daily care visits and good family support. Since going to Chestnut Lodge dad has become much more mobile, visits the toilet unaided (he still needs pads), and just seems happier altogether. Mum, now living alone also appears to have improved, has gained weight and is much happier, she is always made welcome when she visits dad. The whole family are grateful for improving the quality of life for dad and mum. Cannot fault them.
