Royal Star & Garter - Surbiton provides 24-hour nursing care within a homely environment.

With its stunning foyer and relaxed, spacious lounges, the Surbiton Home offers a warm, friendly welcome. Highly trained staff provide specialist nursing and dementia care in comfortable surroundings, where the focus is always on the individual.

There is a shared computer area with internet access and internet access in each bedroom, a library, cafe/bar area, hairdressing salon and a discreet nurse call system in all areas.

The care team works hard to ensure that life for residents in Surbiton Home is comfortable, stimulating and fulfilling and supports residents to live a full and enjoyable life.

The award-winning home is comfortable and informal, with spacious lounges where residents can enjoy activities or find a cosy nook to read or chat with visitors. Residents can visit the hair salon or join friends in the café-bar for a drink. Each resident has a large, en-suite bed-sitting room for enjoying time alone or with family.

My father-in-law, in his very late 90’s, has been a resident of the Surbiton Royal Star and Garter home for over 18 months. He is extremely content, feels well cared for, comfortable and safe.
The care team cater for his needs and yet give him space for his privacy enabling him to read as much as
he likes. The physio team provide him with daily exercise with fun included.
The nursing team ensure that his medical needs are handled efficiently, sensitively and with care.
The meals and wine satisfy his appetite and provide him with variety.
Basically, his happiness and comfort with a high-quality care team provide his family with a great deal of comfort knowing he is safe, clean, well looked after and in good hands.

This is a care home like no other - outstanding in its provision and care, a truly vibrant and exciting place to be. My mother, whose dementia impacts greatly on all aspects of her life, has benefited enormously from the high level of personal attention afforded by gentle, kindly and devoted staff,
who are focused on the promotion of a happy and dignified environment for all. They have managed to create a true home, where everyone, residents and relatives alike, feels a part of a large and caring family. This is due in no small part to the inspired leadership of a brilliant management team, for whom nothing is ever too much trouble, and who are a constant source of reassurance and assistance. The weekly and monthly activities programmes are impressive, the food excellent and in plentiful supply, and everyone exudes happiness and good cheer. Overall my mother enjoys impeccable care and very contented life, for which we, her family, are immensely grateful.

My father has been a resident at the Surbiton Royal Star & Garter for two years. Perhaps the best testament to the exceptional level of care that he has received is that he is extremely happy and regards the Royal Star & Garter as his home. At his age (98 on arrival) he has, amazingly, had a new lease
of life. This is a huge tribute to the whole team at Royal Star and Garter. I cannot recommend them highly enough. His family are all hugely grateful.

Royal Star & Garter - Surbiton is extremely well run. Very proactive with excellent care. The majority of the time the staff always give time to address any issue and follow up to ensure that it has been resolved. The staff has worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and have put on events when possible
to entertain the residents including external trips.

I shall always be grateful that the Royal Star & Garter, Surbiton was there when it became clear that my mother required residential care three and a half years ago. It has provided excellent care throughout, and led by a strong management team, has risen to the huge challenges posed by the coronavirus
pandemic. The staff are caring, and we feel we have come to know many of them. The energetic activities and volunteers manager, together with her team, produces a full and varied programme, and efforts were made to continue this as much as possible during the pandemic. Residents are able to air their views at regular meetings with the manager. The fabric of the building, and the gardens are of a high standard and well-maintained. Services such as hairdressing, audiology and podiatry are made available and have been reinstated as Covid restrictions have allowed. My mother has particularly valued the Armed Forces links which the Royal Star & Garter enables.

Our father had a serious fall and he went from being completely independent to needing serious care after a 10-week stint in Hospital. All his family are either overseas or in London so we moved him from Wales to the Royal Star and Garter in Surbiton in August 2020 so his family could see him regularly.
The staff at the Royal Star and Garter have been simply amazing they have not only been fabulous carers, but they have also been family to their residents as well, during all the lockdowns. They have cared and understood the trauma of our fathers' major life-changing fall from day 1, they have kept us constantly informed, they have allowed access when Daddy has been unwell, I simply cannot fault the care, devotion and understanding not only for our father but his family as well. They are so dedicated. When you enter the home it is warm and friendly, nothing is too much for them, the care they give goes above the call of duty and I would highly recommend the Royal Star Garter to anybody.

My mother has been a resident at the Royal Star and Garter home, Surbiton for almost 6 years now and I can truly say that she has been the happiest we’ve seen her in many years. The carers and nursing staff have become like family to her, especially during Covid-19 lockdown.
The nursing care is second
to none!
During ‘normal’ times there are outings, concerts and other activities on a weekly basis, shopping trips, drives to the local park.
During the summer there are boat trip along the Thames, quizzes and singing with a pianist in the large entrance hall. Christmas is a delightful time at the home - Christmas trees, decorations, children from local schools singing carols. Family members (2x) invited to Christmas dinner. Each resident is given a Christmas present.
My mother has some of her own furniture in her en-suite room and can have her meals either in the main dinning room or in her own room. It is a pleasure to visit and know my mother is happy and safe there.

The Royal Star & Garter Care Home has provided exceptional care for my parents. My father who suffered from Parkinson's spent the last 9 months of his life being looked after most beautifully. His carers gave him back his personal dignity and brought joy back into his life. My mother suffers from dementia;
the care she has met with has also been extraordinarily professional, imaginative and empathetic. She has trouble with her memory but she often comments how safe she feels and that she knows is surrounded by kindness. During the lockdown, the staff were all superheroes, finding many ways to keep the residents' spirits up while looking after them in the most difficult of circumstances. They introduced Zoom sessions, built covid-secure visiting rooms and did all sorts of activities to help the residents cope. It's a wonderful place, staffed by simply amazing people. I owe them all a big debt of gratitude.

This is the only care home that I love. It is perfect and I've got some older photos stored on my mobile of the time we were taken out to the cricket ground. This is the best value for money.

My mother has been living with dementia at Royal Star and garter for the past 3 years she is treated with the utmost dignity and respect and I feel so lucky that she is a resident there. Aspects of her care have been identified by staff to enhance her life. Mum is very happy and content and whilst she

My father moved into The Royal Star & Garter Home in Surbiton six weeks ago and from day one, he has been treated with the utmost respect and care. All of the staff are friendly, polite and give off their best.
The home itself is bright, spacious and welcoming and the facilities are modern and "state
of the art". There are always activities on offer and fantastic outings, concerts and entertainment for the residents to enjoy. I know that my father is very well cared for there.

We have both experienced great kindness and understanding nothing appears to be too much trouble. My husband's dementia has not been easy to manage for anyone but the staff from manager to cleaners have striven to do their best for him.
The home is homely and welcoming. The staff are warm and friendly,
the care is professional and kind, the food is excellent. It truly is home in all senses of the word a place to feel loved and secure.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2019

I started nursing in 1988. My first role after qualifying was working at Royal Star & Garter which I absolutely loved. Since then, I have worked in several acute hospitals across London and then became Head of Nursing and Registered Manager at The Children’s Trust.
The best thing about my job is the residents!


I keep the balance between running a home, and working with such dedicated staff but also being able to manage my workload so I can spend quality time with the residents.
