I approached the Home on behalf of my brother in May this year to enquire if it would be possible for my brother to become a resident.
I was very well received by the Administrator who explained everything clearly to me and answered all my questions. A couple of months later the health of my brother
deteriorated and he was admitted into the Care Home.
He was extremely well received by all members of the staff and he was so well cared for from day one. He is 93 years of age and he is receiving first class attention from the staff who attend to all his needs as his mobility is very poor.
The home itself is very comfortable, is very well run and gives an atmosphere of calmness and serenity.
It also provides good daycare with the emphasis placed on interesting recreational activities for the residents, so good for their mental health. My brother tells me that the catering arrangements are excellent.
In summary, I am delighted that my brother is treated kindly in a very safe environment
Reply from Pauline Jones, Commissioning and Placements Officer at Care for Veterans
Thank you so much for your very kind comments and positive review. I am so pleased that we were able to cater for your brother's needs and get him into the home in a timely fashion.

My husband has been a resident in Care for Veterans for the past four years. During this time he has had at least 3 bouts of sepsis and amputation of his leg. Whenever he has needed medical intervention it has been summoned quickly & appropriately. His day to day care has been exemplary. I have a nursing
background so I am in a position to say the care he & the family receive is second to none. We are greeted with genuine love & warmth whenever we visit.

Settling down following recent merger with seemingly greater confidence amongst staff. Sometimes get impression residents do not get sufficient support or consideration to compensate for physical disabilities when partaking in group activities. Although relationship with ward staff contributes greatly
to my activities as a befriender my feeling is that I lack some suppot from new management team compared to that with previous regime.

My husband had been looked after by Care for Veterans from November 2024 until July 2025. The dedicated care from ALL staff was absolutely amazing. They treated my husband with dignity right up until he sadly passed away on Norfolk ward. I cannot speak highly enough of Care for Veterans, they give the
best care in West Sussex. I have to say I'm full of admiration for them all.

Our mom has lived at the Royal Star & Garter since May 2024. All the staff take such great care of her needs, she goes out on trips, they do lovely meals, and they even gave her a separate table so she can eat her meals alone. We booked a private lunch for her 90th birthday, everything was laid out
beautifully & the food was excellent. She was chosen to attend the 80th Anniversary VE Day in May & meet the King and Queen. It truly is a wonderful place and so much better than our Mom living alone and sad.

This is my second review since my father became a resident at Royal Star and Garter almost a year ago. Having been hesitant about going he settled in very well and thoroughly enjoys all the varied activities, social events and outings. Recently, my father had a stroke and the care and support given
to him and myself has been outstanding. Nothing is too much trouble and staff go the extra mile in all aspects of care, including specific needs assessments. Each time I visit my father, I am greeted with such kindness and the family environment is so apparent. I am so grateful that Dad is with you.

My husband has severe dementia and has been a resident for 4 years. I cannot fault this care home. The care and attention my husband receives is second to none. He is treated with respect and love by the staff. I am kept well informed of various situations that occur affecting my husband. I would
also like to add that the staff are considerate and understanding with regard to my emotions connected with my husbands condition. Before I made a decision to choose The Royal Star & Garter I had in fact visited other care homes which frankly filled me with dread. I have never regretted my decision choosing RS & G.

Our 92 year old father who suffers from vascular dementia has been resident at the Royal Star & Garter for nearly 5 years now and I can honestly say that I cannot imagine a better care home. My dad's dementia means that he has no short-term memory at all and therefore is constantly lost and confused
as to where he is and cannot make new friendships or relationships. Despite this, the staff show endless patience and kindness towards my dad treating him with utmost respect and care which has the result of making him feel relaxed and at ease. The staff have made the effort to learn my dad's 'ways' and adapt to them so that his experience of life is as pleasant and sociable as it possibly could be. From the management of the home, through the level of care given by the staff, the high standard of the rooms and interior, to the delicious food served. I cannot praise the Royal Star & Garter highly enough. Their communication with us the family is also excellent and extremely considerate

Our son has now stayed at Care for Veterans several times for respite care and on each occasion we were made to feel welcome and nothing seemed to be any trouble. There is a very warm welcome given by the reception staff on arrival and the care staff are fantastic and the close attention they give to
residents gives us the reassurance that he will be looked after when we leave him. Our son has complex needs and the range of staff from the care assistants to the senior nursing staff ensures that he gets excellent care for the duration of his stay. The booking arrangements and management also deserve recognition as the whole home is clearly focussed on the residents coming first. We would strongly recommend anyone to this home and we hope to continue visiting for respite care in the future.

I was admitted to Care for Veterans on the 5th June 25 having spent the beginning of June in hospital following a fall. With no care package in place and not able to walk properly I had to go into the veterans for respite care. This helped me to gain confidence and better mobility as I also live on
my own. The care I was given was wonderful and restored my confidence. Have returned home to see how I manage with occasional help from my daughter.

We contacted Care for Veterans when mum was discharged from hospital too soon and unable to walk or manage to look after herself following a blood clot in the top of her thigh. The staff and everyone involved in looking after mum from the first day she arrived have been, amazing - kind, caring and treating
mum with compassion, respect and encouragement when she is walking with her frame. They have also been a support to us as a family when we were so concerned about mum. I have visited many services in my time as an independent advocate and have never been taken back in awe like I have with Royal Star & Garter - Solihull. After speaking with the clients at the service and from what I have seen for myself here, Royal Star & Garter have created an incredible home with

My mother was adamant that she didn't want to go into a care home because of past experience with her own mother many years ago. Because of this we went down the route of live in carers for my mother who needed care 24/7, but after several months it became apparent that this was not an ideal solution.
We
finally persuaded my mother to give the RSG a try for a couple of weeks to see how she liked it, she's now been a resident for several months and things couldn't be better. The care at the RSG far surpasses her previous care arrangements. It was a big move for her to give up her independence and move into a care home and it did take her some time to adjust but now she is so happy that she made the move.
The most valuable asset at the RSG are their wonderful staff, their skills, service and interactions with residents is exemplary. The care at the RSG far exceeded our expectations.
