From the very first moment of her arrival, 3 and a half years ago, my mum knew she was going to fit in and feel very much at home here.
There are so many positives that Milngavie Manor stands out from the crowd and from other existing care homes.
Whenever I visit, there is always a feeling of friendliness
and helpfulness and the continual excellent dedication and care from each staff member, throughout all departments, is clearly evident.
Very happy to see the new manager making her presence known to residents and visitors alike, adding to that 'cared for experience' it would be good if Hamberley Care Homes would acknowledge the hard-working staff, especially during staff shortages where they are stretched and undervalued.

My aunt has been a resident of Milngavie Manor for the past 5 months.
All staff are extremely professional, attentive and appear highly skilled.
The public areas are well furnished and there is a high level of cleanliness noticeable throughout.
Residents bedrooms are warm, well decorated and personalised.
The en-suite bathrooms are kept spotlessly clean.
Food appears to be nutritious, varied and plentiful.
In my opinion the staff and management really do get to know their clients. They communicate regularly with me about my aunt's care and I feel that they listen to any concerns that I may have and act quickly to reassure me.
As my aunt has advanced dementia she can get very agitated and anxious at times. During such times I have witnessed how the care staff show patience in calming, reassuring and redirecting her.
It is a great comfort to me to know that my aunt is treated with respect and dignity and is well cared for.
I can’t recommend Milngavie Manor highly enough.

I am very happy with the care my aunt has been receiving at Milngavie Manor since moving from another care home three months ago. I believe she is being very well cared for with staff keeping me well informed on how she is settling in and with regards to her health and wellbeing. All members of staff
I have met, management, reception, cleaners, carers, nurses, and entertainment staff, are all very approachable and appear to be doing a great job in these challenging times. The chefs do a wonderful job keeping the residents fed, the quality and variety of food is great. All areas of the home are well maintained and are kept very clean - residents' rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, as are the common areas (lounges, dining rooms, cafe etc). I would have no hesitation recommending Milngavie Manor for a loved one.

I'm delighted with the care given to my husband over the past 3 months. I appreciate the effort made during a period of lockdown to keep all the residents safe. From the reception, personal care staff, the cleaning and laundry staff and the catering staff, all have been supportive of my husband's needs.

I am very happy with the care my husband has received at Milngavie Manor. The staff are attentive and always willing to attend to my husband's needs. There is always a well-cooked, tasty and varied menu available at mealtimes. A variety of events and activities take place every week, residents choir,
painting, exercise, book club, musical entertainment to name a few. I always feel welcome when I visit and often join in the activities with my husband.

Mum has been a resident in Milngavie Manor for 18 months and was one of the first residents.
The staff are great with my mother and now know all her needs.
It will be her 95th birthday in July and will organise something for her at Milngavie Manor.
The only negative is the closure of the coffee shop
as we used to take her there for coffee and cake. Any change this could function again.

My very independent mother was admitted to Abbotsford House (Milngavie Manor) in Oct 18, following us struggling at home for 18 months. I am amazed and delighted she has settled so well. As a retired nursing sister with over 40 years experience, I would recommend this home for anyone in the same position.
The staff give an exceptionally high standard of care at the same time keeping a homely atmosphere.

My late Mother was one of the first ever residents to enter Abbotsford Luxury Suites back in December 2017. My mother (82) suffered from dementia which Abbotsford Luxury Suites specialises in, plus the beautiful setting and stunning facilities made the families decision to choose Abbotsford Luxury Suites
a very easy one.

I'm often away on business so it was important to know that my Mum was well looked after in a homely environment. There's also a hairdresser and Latte Da Cafe which added another amazing benefit. My Mum's friends could visit her and treat her to her favourite coffee and a homemade scone.

I cant praise the staff and level of care enough. My Mum took poorly over Christmas and was released from hospital in January back to Abbotsford Luxury Suites for palliative care. I can't thank all of the team for the unbelievable care and compassion that was shown in my Mum's final days. So if you're considering Abbotsford Luxury Suites for your loved ones then take a visit and you won't be disappointed.

Reply from Susan Leung, Home Manager at Milngavie Manor Care HomeDear Mr R and Family
Thank you for the superb review of the home, staff and care. We are thrilled to hear such positive feedback.
Mum was a pleasure to care for and is missed by both the staff and residents.
In addition, yourself and the family had been a great support to us here in the home and had become part of the extended Abbotsford Suites Family.

With much gratitude
Susan Leung

Our Aunt lived at the home for a year, she suffered from Demetria, hearing loss and limited vision. She sadly passed away recently whilst a resident in Abbotsford she was 98 years old. I cannot speak highly enough of the care given to our Aunt, the attention to detail and her needs was excellent. The
handling of her passing was what you would have wished for, with support for our Aunt and my husband. The staff were always conscious of what was best for her in a given situation. You could not ask for more.

My mother-in-law became resident in this facility in December 2017 following a fall which resulted in a broken hip and wrist. She has dementia, was completely immobile, reliant on hoist lifts to get her in and out of bed/ onto a chair etc. She is now mobile, with the use of a walking aid, and is thriving,
due to the excellent care she is receiving. Staff are caring and devoted to the wellbeing of all residents. As a family, we are extended a warm welcome each time one of us visits. I have previous experience of dealing with elderly relatives in residential care and wish this facility had been available at the time.

Keep up the good work!

Excellently designed residence/care facility, very homely atmosphere and welcoming staff. From management to all sectors of staff, I encountered experienced highly professional, motivated and dedicated individuals. They all demonstrated skills, knowledge and professionalism as well as being extremely
courteous and respectful to myself and my family member who was experiencing respite care.

I have viewed numerous nursing homes and consider this to be of exceptional quality delivering as they promise. The food and cleanliness were observed as excellent and the lovely quality touches of cloth table covers and napkins very inviting. Staff were very attentive to individuals with special care needs pertaining to tasks like feeding and moving and handling.

I would be more than happy to recommend this facility and place my relative there long-term should the need arise.

This home failed to deliver the care it advertised for dementia sufferers, by doing so it caused suffering to both the patient and family. What was meant to be her forever home was taken away in a very uncaring manner. Whilst the fixtures and fittings are good the care and compassion provided were non-existent
and in no way would I recommend this home to anyone.

My mother was in this care facility from March - June 2018 The manager did not go to the dementia unit she was in to assess her prior to admission. She was assessed apparently during a short visit with us prior to admission. No proper assessment took place that day.
The care my mother received was
average. They were often understaffed. The staff struggled with mum's behaviour. She has Alzheimer's, and until her meds were changed she was very agitated. She put herself onto the floor. Slowly Mum began to improve though. We were shocked when we were told that the directors wanted Mum to leave. We were told by the manager that they could not provide the care my mother required. This, despite the fact they advised, and still advise that they take residents who have dementia. They told us residents' relatives had complained about my mum and one woman was afraid to come out of her room. We were humiliated at 2 meetings attended by a social worker. This home looks lovely, but be very wary.
Reply from Elaine Hamilton, Clinical Director at Milngavie Manor Care HomeOn behalf of Management and staff at Abbotsford Suites, we would like to apologise if you felt that your relative received less than optimum care at our facility.
We continually strive to improve and welcome constructive feedback and because of your experience, we have put in place a more robust admission process.
Our staffing levels have always been above the minimum requirements recommended by the Care Inspectorate and all staff are trained in Dementia care, however, we are not a specialist dementia centre.
It was disappointing that you reviewed the care provided as poor, as when you met with the directors you did not convey that you were ever unhappy with the standard of care your relative received.
The directors and management team hope that you have found the specialist care that your relative requires and again apologise for any upset this experience may have caused you and your family.

I believe the admissions policy for this Care Home to be deeply flawed because my mother was evicted after two months. I recommend that you do not send your elderly relatives here because when their dementia progresses, they may be evicted. In my opinion, this care home did not provide the service that
they were paid for.

I needed respite care after whooping cough (age 83!!) and a stay in hospital as I normally live alone. Friends and family found this group and booked me in. I spent 24 days there. Initially apprehensive, I really felt benefit from the care and attention that I received and am now happily back at
home. I was in better mental health than most of the residents and so could interact more with the wonderful staff and could observe their care and professionalism dispassionately and also discuss with residents' relatives their opinions of their relatives' treatment. It is never easy to see people brought down by dementia and other consequences of advancing years ("there but for the grace of God go I") so I really appreciated the amazing patience and kindness that the staff showed to everyone. The building is new, the ambience superb and the food excellent. If I ever need Abbotsford's services again I would be content to use them. The activities provided were appropriate and valuable.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.620)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.620) out of 10 for Milngavie Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.820 for Milngavie Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (116 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 139 Ratings = 4.82
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Milngavie Manor Care Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
