Anita Stone Court lists a care home manager as someone who left in Jan 2023, we think, no one told relatives. After 6 months of relying on agency staff and a meeting in June 2023 to admit care had been poor, the new Manager (the one after the previous that left) tried to turn things around but has now left having only worked at the Anita Stone Court June - August/beginning Sept 2023. That most recent manager really tried but one individual cannot deal with how far processes had lapsed including during the previous manager's period and the subsequent 6 month gap - improvements have only ever been partial. BCOP needs to support any new manager coming to turn the home around. Individual staff are friendly but care is inconsistent. Anita Stone Court also went from 'Requires Improvement' rating CQC to 'Good Requires Improvement' however the manager who took over briefly this summer said it was in reality it was back to 'Requires Improvement': this downward spiral will continue unless BCOP steps in. For us, Anita Stone Court was also badly behind on meeting DOLs.

My application was accepted in September 2022; my son visited the apartment in advance and sent me a comer video.
After the upheaval of my move from Northumberland, the facilities in the apartment, in reality, came as an extraordinarily pleasant surprise.
The staff and admin/managers made every effort to help me settle into this new address and local facilities so that I can now conduct an independent life and still count on their help when necessary.

I'm very happy to take this opportunity to acknowledge my gratitude.

Mum was only at the home for a short time but the care and compassion she received was excellent.
The food was lovely and as a family, we felt valued and listened to.

Unfortunately, she was not well enough to participate in the activities on offer. At the end of her life staff ensured she maintained her dignity and that she was well presented which is something that was important to her. Staff also spent time chatting to her to support her mental health as she was anxious due to breathing difficulties. I would recommend the home.

Grandad is very settled, staff are really kind, lovely home and good food. Nothing seems too much trouble and they all seem to genuinely care. Not keen on the animals though, I don’t think they have big enough pens. Could you let someone else look after them like on a farm or something and have them come to visit? This doesn't put me off though, it's a lovely place thank you for all your care.

My mum's uncle is in your other home, that is lovely too.

Reply from Helen Gore, CEO at Anita Stone Court

Thank you for your review, it's a pleasure to be looking after your grandad. We are currently reviewing our pet farms to ensure our animals have appropriate environments, so I appreciate your comments on this issue. We will ensure that animal therapy remains available to our residents.

The care my relative receives at present and in the past is excellent. He is always clean and tidy and his specific needs taken care of. The staff are kind and caring and are very hard working and know their residents well. His bedroom and bathroom are always clean and tidy. When he was able to, my uncle really enjoyed his occasional visits to the local pub and feeding the animals and in return, they gave him many hours of pleasure. I think the animals are an asset to the home. I am very satisfied with the care he receives at this home and would happily recommend the home.

Thank you for your kind words. We feel it is a privilege to look after our residents and we are glad that you feel the care and service are of a good standard, it is what we strive for every day. We love the joy that our animals have brought people and are currently looking at other ways of having a greater variety. We hope you like the outcomes!

High-quality care with kind and attentive, professional staff in a bright and cheerful environment.

More communal activities would be welcome, albeit optional, but the environment and staff approach are of a high standard. Garden and animals are a real bonus too.

My siblings and I are glad that our mother is residing at Anita Stone Court. The staff are always good and Mom's level of care is high. We have noticed lately that the general level of maintenance has dropped, a bit concerning, the furniture and grounds and we wonder whether the hens and ducks are doing more damage than good with the mess everywhere. But on the whole quite happy with everything.

My brothers and I are really glad that Mom resides at Anita Stone Court. We do not have any complaints as far as Mom's care is concerned but we have noticed the general maintenance on chairs, wheelchairs etc and the garden and grounds has slipped a bit lately. The hens and ducks are not doing much except make a mess and destruct the garden. Wouldn't it be better free of animals and full of shrubs and flowers for the residents to see and enjoy.

My mother was in Anita Stone Court. I found Mom's care was excellent and the staff were very good with her and family and friends that visited Mom. When Mom passed away there was extreme dignity for Mom and care and kind words for the family.

The home has had a number of staff changes during the last two years, and recently, this has had an impact on the quality of care. This was brought to the attention of the staff and is being addressed.
With new staff, things take time, and it would help if they spoke to family more during these changes, but possible shortages can add to the time to do this.

Overall, we have still recommended other people to be accommodated in the home.

My mum arrived in this home with 48 hours to live in April 2020 and has had the most amazing care. She was in a hospital for 2 nights in March and they commented they had never seen a person of her age and condition so well looked after. The staff are very caring and nothing seems too much trouble for them.

My mother is now in her 6th year at this home with her dementia. The care has always been excellent and adapted to meet her worsening dementia requirements during this time. The home environment is bright and light which is so important for dementia and the contained garden allows for a safe, pleasant green space to allow visitors/staff to take residents for a walk or in wheelchairs. During warm spells, residents and visitors can sit in the garden. The dining room and quiet sitting area look out across the garden and the latter was always a favourite with my mother when she was more mobile. My mother's room and en-suite is always very clean with good facilities. It has been a difficult few years for the care sector but my mother has continued to receive a high standard of care at Anita Stone Court.

This care home is excellent.
My mother has been in care homes for 5 years.
Nearly 3 years ago I needed to find a nursing home to transfer mom from residential care, after spending many hours searching I came across Anita Stone Court which was just about to open.
Mom was in the home from the start and we have watched it develop into the home it is today.

Excellent, excellent.

My mother came to Anita Stone Court from hospital and from the outset she has received the most superb care. She is 98 years old, frail and vulnerable and has been treated with care, compassion and the utmost dignity. I have absolute faith in the staff at all levels. They are professional, efficient and constantly interact with all the residents. The rooms are lovely, clean airy and well equipped. The catering is of a very high standard and appropriate to each resident. I feel very fortunate that there was an available place.
