Arkwright House Care Home is in Castleton, not far from Rochdale, offering residential, nursing, residential dementia and nursing dementia care.

There are large wheelchair-friendly landscaped gardens along with a furnished patio at the care home, where some of the residents like to spend time gardening.

The home has bright, comfortable bedrooms and living areas which are all easily accessible by wheelchair. Residents can decorate their rooms with small items of their own furniture and possessions.

Staff at the home encourage everyone to eat and celebrate special occasions together. If a resident is unable to attend a family event, the home encourage the family to provide photographs and music of the event.

Arkwright House Care Home is run by Bloomcare which is a company of Christian values that embraces cultural diversity. They believe that coming into care is not the end of life but the beginning of another journey.

Entertainers regularly visit and entertain residents and neighbourhood groups and volunteers often pop in for a cup of tea and a chat. There is a host of activities on offer to residents including baking, writing, gardening, dancing, painting, quizzes and playing chess.

Residents also get involved with walks, feeding the birds, light weeding in the garden, baking, laying the dining table and arranging flowers.

I love the true value of person-centred care from all the staff and management at Arkwright House. I feel they take their time to meet my nanna's needs from the smallest of wishes to ensuring she is at the fullest of health. I have a great relationship with the staff and always feel I can go to them
with any doubts or concerns I have and it is dealt with promptly. I love that there are activities daily to keep my nanny active and stimulated, from hairdressers to musical bingo she is always involved laughing along with staff and her friends. I am grateful for all the care and support they have given my nanna over the years, my nanna continues to blossom at the young age of 81 with the caring nature she receives from the hardworking staff. Thank you Arkwright House for the endless hard work it does not go unnoticed.

Everything at Arkwright House is excellent. I cannot speak highly enough of the care home and its wonderful staff they are all truly amazing people, thoughtful, hardworking, caring and very professional in the job they do. They truly are the best of us.

I am so impressed with the care my dad receives at Arkwright Care Home. The staff are caring and give a level of care beyond that which I expected. My Dad is happy and safe and I am confident that they always put his best interests first.

Bernadette

Bernadette Lewis

Job Title: Registered Home Manager

Joined: 2016

Bernie is the Home Manager at Arkwright care home. Bernadette started her career in Care at Arkwright House in 2000. Starting in the role of a Care Assistant, she quickly realised her passion is within the profession therefore she took an opportunity to be trained as a Senior Care Assistant. Bernadette enjoyed many new challenges with training and enjoyed upskilling her colleagues. She, therefore, became the Moving and Handling coordinator, and trainer in Dementia Awareness and Infection Control Lead. Bernadette took the role of Arkwright’s unit manager in 2011 after completing her qualification in NVQ Level 5 Health Care Management. She has loved and cared for residents in Arkwright House for over 11 years. Bernadette is very proud to be a part of Bloomcare’s family since 2019.
