During the first lockdown, my mother was hospitalised 5 times after falls. She went to Cooksons Court and she and the family knew she was safe and cared for. She was cared for right up to the time she passed away on Mother's Day. I was unable to get there in time to say goodbye, but the nurse sat with
her and held her hand. She did not die alone but with a very caring human being. I will be forever grateful for the care shown to my mum. Thank you all.

My 100-year-old Mum was a temporary stay in the YDH rehabilitation unit at Cooksons Court. It was the first time that we as a family had had any experience of dealing with care homes. Her stay happened during a period of Covid lockdown and was required as she had fallen and broken her hip. Given the
restrictions, all aspects of her care while at Cooksons Court was very good. The staff were kind, thoughtful and very helpful. She was in a much better state when she left so grateful thanks to all involved.

When we had to arrange for our friend to be cared for in a nursing home, the first home that came to mind was Cooksons Court as two of our friends were already there and we were so very impressed by the very high standards of care, cleanliness, and such friendly staff and we were so happy that our friend
was allocated a room which was lovely, so bright and welcoming and she had the very, very best care. Thank you staff.

My mother-in-law had a fall before Christmas and ended up in hospital then into Cooksons Court for a fair few weeks.
We cannot thank all the staff enough for taking such excellent care of her.
We took comfort during the current times knowing that she was safe and well looked after.
She even came
home with painted finger and toe nails which she loved.
They are all stars!

Everything was strange, but with excellent care and assistance from all staff, I felt comfortable, even when in pain. The physio team did and gave me so much help which gave me confidence. Food not always to my liking as I prefer vegetables not Al Dente.

When my Mum entered Cooksons Court earlier this year she was frail after hospital stays and depressed. I was very concerned for her safety as she is completely immobile and was living alone. Within a couple of days, she was a different person, rosy-cheeked and had her sense of humour back. She has settled
in really well and thoroughly enjoys the activities, especially the visiting singers and church services. Thank you!

The nurses at Cooksons Court are highly professional, skilled and sensitive, especially in relation to care at the end of life.
My mum and I were able to spend the last few weeks of her life in a bright, quiet, private and safe environment in a comfortable room with loving, gentle but diligent care
from all staff at the home.
When I went home at night I could completely trust my mum to their care, knowing I would be called immediately if needed.
The manager of Cooksons Court is totally committed to ensuring all aspects of residents' care are the best they can be and inspires confidence.
I will never be able to express what Cooksons Court has given me and my mum.
I am so grateful.

I stayed on the rehab unit for a week, the whole experience was amazing. I cannot thank the physio team enough for their commitment and kindness they showed me at this difficult time. Without this fantastic place and the care and kindness of the team that worked there, I would not have been as well
as I am now.

A lovely facility well presented with nice furnishings and fittings. Most relevant are the staff. All of whom, from the cleaner to the nursing staff and throughout all members, nothing seems to be too much trouble. They are all happy, smiling and friendly. This has been a tonic to my mum and without
doubt has aided her recovery. Cookson Court is more akin to a well managed hotel and is a credit to all who work there.

I was resident at Cooksons Court, first in the Re-enablement unit and then for some weeks in the nursing home for respite care. In both sections, I found the accommodation comfortable and attractive and the food generally well cooked and attractive. The staff, in general, were cheerful, friendly, polite
and helpful. But I feel that lack of funding and consequent understaffing hampered their willingness to assist on several occasions. (As if you needed telling).

I believe this to be the finest care home in the area and probably one of the best anywhere. Modern, friendly, comfortable, reassuring with very caring and approachable staff at all levels.

Gripes? Cable for call button too short didn't reach to the chair. Pendant would be better. Air mattress not

suitable for rehab believe they will be replaced on that floor.

This nursing home is modern, extremely well equipped and displays a culture of high standards in every aspect of it's organisation. The staff appeared to know nothing but courtesy and professionalism towards both visitors and residents, equipped with plenty of laughter and humour. I was particularly
impressed with the level of care and attention given to my aunt (90 years), albeit for only a few weeks before her death.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.803)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.803) out of 10 for Cooksons Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.803 for Cooksons Court is calculated as follows: ( (295 Excellents x 5) + (61 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 361 Ratings = 4.803
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cooksons Court is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
