Mum was admitted for palliative nursing care from hospital. I cannot recommend Cooksons Court highly enough, and as a social worker, I have seen lots of homes.
The room was clean and bright but the care she received promoted dignity and a personal touch, I felt I could trust them to do a good job.
The gold standard meant that when she died, everything was arranged and so caringly.

The food I rate six out of ten and the service was excellent. My mattress was uncomfortable. My room/bathroom was kept beautifully clean and so was everywhere. The staff were extremely helpful and cheerful over all levels. Thank you. Excellent. P.S. my waitress was replaced as soon as I complained.
Reply from Somerset Care at Cooksons CourtDear Wendy, many thanks for taking the time to write a review following your respite stay at Cooksons Court. We were so pleased to read your praise for our helpful team and the cleanliness of the home. We understand that a comfortable mattress is a very individual preference and we're glad to be able to swap this for you during your stay to make you more comfortable. We encourage everyone who stays with us to speak with us about their food preferences and if the choice available on our daily menu doesn't appeal, we are always happy to prepare an alternative meal. Thank you again for your feedback and we wish you all the best for your continued recovery.

My 98-year-old mum spent several weeks at the rehab unit at Cooksons Court Care Home following hospital stays after falls. She was treated with kindness, respect and dignity. All the staff are a credit to Somerset Care. They went over and above to secure a permanent place in a residential care home
nearer to her family and their devotion to their resident is second to none.

My mother was admitted to Cooksons Court Care Home for the final weeks of her life. The staff were attentive and very kind. Nothing seemed too much trouble. We were so grateful that she didn't have to return to hospital but received compassionate and professional end-of-life care in a pleasant, homely
place. Thank you.

My husband died recently after just over three years of being nursed and cared for by the wonderful staff at Cooksons Court Care Home. The home itself is lovely and I cannot praise the workers highly enough - all of them, including those behind the scenes who I never actually met but were important
for everyone’s well-being. Covid, and lockdowns, made their lives so much more demanding and difficult but I always felt my husband was receiving the best possible care and being treated with dignity and kindness. I too was always met with unfailing friendliness and kindness and with great compassion during his final days. He could not have received better end of life care and I am so grateful to everyone involved.

While the home is all very nice and posh, the cleanliness could have been much better, personal hygiene seemed unimportant and dignity was overlooked. In 5 months my mum had one shower, her hair washed once, only able to clean her teeth twice. Her duvet cover was changed only twice/health and safety
seemed very backward. Wasn’t allowed to use bed sides due to “no risk assessment”. Surely the risk is higher for not using them? We were very lucky that the NHS covered our costs but I can say if we had been paying I would have been very disappointed in the way it is run. Most of the staff are good but some less than friendly to the point of complaints made. On discharge, the staff packed up the room before I got the chance to get there and even that seemed a rush, things just thrown in bags with no care or thought.
Reply from Somerset Care, Somerset Care at Cooksons CourtThank you for taking the time to leave a review for Cooksons Court. We are shocked and saddened to read your comments, as no concerns were raised during your mother's stay with us, and your mother herself commented that it was 'like living in a hotel' and she wished she could stay longer. The physical health, mental wellbeing and dignity of those in our care is our top priority, and the incidents you describe would be in no way acceptable to us. We have attempted to contact you to discuss your concerns directly, and would very much appreciate your getting in touch so that we can put your mind at rest. We hope to speak with you soon.

Cooksons Court Care Home is a lovely home. The staff are kind and understanding and very helpful. Whilst my husband was in respite it was his birthday and they give him a day to remember with balloons, birthday cake and staff singing him happy birthday. The food is good and the laundry service is exceptional.

Overall we were pleased with the care provided for my mother.
She was admitted for end of life care for two weeks.
The criticism I have is that we were not told that once we were in her room we were not allowed to leave until the end of our visit. Hence, we were spoken to on a few occasions as we
left to talk to someone.
On the second day, we were handed a contract to sign, which we duly did and handed back to reception. This contract appeared to get lost as when Mum passed we were asked three times for information which was on the contract. Where did the contract go and who else saw this confidential information.
We were never spoken to by anyone in charge so were unaware of protocol.
The nursing staff and care workers were very good.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.803)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.803) out of 10 for Cooksons Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.803 for Cooksons Court is calculated as follows: ( (295 Excellents x 5) + (61 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 361 Ratings = 4.803
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cooksons Court is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
