Review from Sandra L (Daughter of Resident) published on 30 July 2024 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mum moved into Darcey House on 16 July 2024. It felt like I was sending a small child to boarding school. Any worries I may have had disappeared overnight. The building is designed to a very high standard. Mum's room is modern, clean and homely as she has some of her own things in there too. A lot
of thought has gone into interior design so that it doesn't look or feel like a residential home. The views from the lounge areas are outstanding. Staff are on hand at a moment's notice to tend to her needs and are respectful and friendly. They have got to know mum very well. The food is prepared on-site to a very high standard. I joined her for lunch today and was extremely impressed with the quality of the food. Well-balanced and very tasty. Mum still likes to get about, and the indoor and outside space is safe and staff are on hand to help her every step of the way. She is happy so I am more than happy. A decision well made.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.651)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.651) out of 10 for Darcy House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.651 for Darcy House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (190 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 238 Ratings = 4.651
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Darcy House Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 78 registered maximum number of service users is 15.6, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

As a nurse, the most important aspect of the role for me is to ensure our residents at Darcy House receive safe, person-centred care. It is a privilege to be part of the team and to lead our experienced nursing staff at this beautiful home. I have 32 years of experience in healthcare in various roles within the NHS sector. Throughout the years of my nursing career, I have delivered care to people with long-term health conditions, such as people who have had a stroke, Parkinson’s care delivery, people who have new-onset dementia and those who have more advanced complex dementia needs.

I have also worked closely with community palliative care teams and have the fundamental knowledge needed to ensure families and carers are involved fully throughout the care journey with their loved ones. I have 10 years of experience, more recently as a Matron for older adults, and I take pride in paying attention to the details in the care we deliver to our older adult residents. Being open, honest, kind and showing compassion for the well-being of others are all really the core of being a nurse.
