My first impression of The Denby was that it is a modern, up-to-date home with all the modern facilities. The bedrooms are light and spacious, with excellent ensuites. The staff are warm and welcoming and treat the residents with respect and dignity. Management at the home have been very approachable, helpful and understanding. I have nothing but praise for The Denby.

I regularly visit my father-in-law in The Denby care home at Denby Dale. I am always welcomed by friendly staff. If we have a problem, the staff are keen to help and always approachable. My father-in-law is very settled in The Denby and feels content and cared for.

A care home should be caring and The Denby is just that. It also retains staff who possess wide-ranging skill sets. As my mother's needs have changed, The Denby continue to support her in a compassionate and sensitive manner. During the covid crisis, The Denby showed great resilience and team spirit, during what was a challenging period. The team are thoughtful to me.

Mum moved into The Denby on 5th May 2022 after being in another place for four years and seeing a decline in care and services. The difference is remarkable and mum is so happy now. The staff are lovely and friendly, the manager approachable and supportive. The food is good, the place is beautifully clean and tidy. She is taken on trips, the cinema, for ice cream, the park, none of which happened at the other place. She has settled well and I feel content that she is here.

The accommodation is listed, but clean, warm and comfortable. The best asset the Denby has is its staff, who are unfailingly cheerful, hardworking and professional. Better and swifter communication of changes to procedures, rules and regulations impacting on residents would be helpful to both residents and staff. Also, it would save staff time and allow them to concentrate on all their duties.

My mother who has multiple and complex needs has been living in The Denby for nearly six months. She has found it difficult to settle and accept this life change, and Covid-19 has made this worse. However, the staff have worked tirelessly with patience and respect to help her settle and she is now beginning to show signs of being happy and settled.

The overall standard of care at The Denby has deteriorated. The rooms are not cleaned daily and the cleaners appear to have more work than is achievable. Food does not get cut up, napkins are rarely used and cakes/biscuits are not put on plates. Some staff are excellent and some not so. Facilities are not used due to my mother's reducing mobility. I believe the care/support has declined as my mother has declined. This should not happen!

At a time of unprecedented difficulty for the care home sector, the staff at The Denby continue to deliver care with compassion, understanding and respect. The difficulties we experience are a result of government guidelines and the home does its best to navigate around them with the interest of the residents at the heart of what they do.

The main point is that my father seems quite content despite the restrictions that continue to be imposed. He feels at ease in his surroundings, and the staff are amenable. However, he does benefit from spending time outside of The Denby with members of his family, which has been severely limited recently for obvious reasons. An urgent review of the procedure in this regard is needed though. I am aware that senior management and not the management of the home would be responsible for this.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at The Denby at Denby Dale

Thank you for your feedback. Please be assured we are acutely aware of the impact restrictions have on the people we care for and their families. We must, however, follow the instructions provided by the Public Health Department and Government. HC-One does not develop them but must adhere to them...

Carers and management are at pains to personalise the experience for my mum. They do this by asking family and by making observations. Now, after a year here, my mum's sensory needs are considered, as are those concerning her mental health. Dishes that Mum is most likely to eat are served up. I am impressed by the level of care and attention afforded to my mum and also to me, her essential carer.

I can't begin to say how happy I am that my mother is residing at The Denby, where I know she is safe and well looked after. Her safety and wellbeing are always at the forefront of the staff, who are all absolutely brilliant. They always keep me informed of even the slightest changes in her care which goes a long way to ease my mind. I cannot recommend the staff and care at the Denby highly enough and would like to take this opportunity to thank you all very much.

Brilliant! The staff can't do enough. Been made very welcome. Unable to do activities due to being confined to the room for 14 days isolation - "intake". Unable to answer "value" as not having any savings can only say I am no longer able to care for myself anymore!

My mother was in the Denby for nearly three months. She was well looked after and was 100 during her stay there. The staff really cared about her. The facilities were modern and well furnished. At her passing, the staff were very caring, compassionate, made the right decision to keep her in the home and were with her until the end. No hesitation in recommending it.

Our good friend moved into The Denby at Denby Dale in mid-December. During the pandemic.
This felt really difficult, but the staff were really good at supporting her at what must have been an uncertain time for her.

We appreciate very much the patience shown to our friend, as she can be difficult and uncooperative at times, so full marks to all at The Denby.

My mum has been a resident for 4 years. The staff are caring and attentive to the residents' needs. Very clean and bright atmosphere. Mum thinks she is in a hotel. She has dementia but is very much catered for. I would certainly recommend The Denby to anyone looking for a safe and happy home for their loved ones.

My elderly father has received good care at The Denby for 2 years. In that time his mental and physical health have changed and they have adapted the support he needs, whilst respecting his dignity and desire for independence. They acted appropriately in medical emergencies which occurred particularly at night, and then accepted and managed his discharge from hospital to settle in again.
Due to Covid these have been very frustrating times for me as a relative who used to go every day, and when/whether visiting can be achieved has been a roller-coaster. I do understand but it has not been easy, and the staff have been patient with daily phone calls from me and my brother living abroad.

What makes the Denby a real gem is the staff of all types - genuinely kind, good-humored and treating my father as an individual. Their response and care to me on his recent death has just illustrated that again. Thank you.
