Not enough staff around! Patients wait to be brought up to table.
Reply from Rimi Sidhu, Eliza Palmer Care Home Manager at Eliza Palmer Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for the continued support you give to our residents as a volunteer. We genuinely value the time and commitment you have given over the years through the bingo sessions.

Although the activity is scheduled at a set time, residents do not always wish to attend exactly at that time. Many prefer to join in their own time, once they feel ready and comfortable, and this is something we respect as part of providing person-centred care. Some residents may also choose not to attend on certain days depending on how they are feeling.

Bingo often takes place during a busy period of the day, when staff are supporting residents with personal care, mobility, and other individual needs. Our staffing levels are planned to meet residents' assessed needs, and we balance this alongside supporting activities and resident choice.

We appreciate the feedback and remain grateful for the positive contribution our volunteers make to residents.

I have been visiting for over a year and always found her very well looked after. The staff are courteous and helpful and are always trying to keep a cheerful atmosphere. The premises are super clean and very well maintained. The care home provides a lot of activities, social and physical, to keep the
residents in a cheerful mood.
Overall, an excellent 'home' for the residents.

This home is good in many ways - less so in others. Its strongest point is its setting in the beautify Whiteley Village, followed by the decent build quality of the home.
Staff care varies by individual - some are excellent (though two of these have recently left), and I think they all mean well,
but some are variable. There seems to be a high turnover of staff, which is a significant point as knowing the residents and their needs is important.
Sometimes the basics are overlooked or got wrong - including some obviously flawed processes. There was also considerable disruption when the new company took over a while back, with mixed messages and u-turns on commitments which significantly dented trust, although this seems to have settled more recently.
Like most care homes, this one is eye-wateringly expensive, and the cost does not always seem to be reflected in the experience, hence my score for value.
Reply from Rimi Sidhu, Eliza Palmer Care Home Manager at Eliza Palmer Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback. I really appreciate you acknowledging the positives, as well as the areas where you feel we can do better.

Were very proud of our lovely setting within Whiteley Village and the homes bright, spacious design. I completely understand your point about consistency and the importance of staff who know each resident well this is something Im continuing to focus on through recruitment, retention, and training so we can maintain a strong, stable team.

When Kingsley Healthcare took over, there was understandably a period of change and adjustment, but Im pleased that things have now settled and that were moving in a positive direction. We remain committed to providing the best possible care and experience for all our residents and families, and your feedback helps us to keep improving.

When you first see Eliza Palmer, you will be very impressed with the reception, cafe area as you move into the residential area, which is also very smart, but not air conditioned. Our room was spacious and well appointed everything you need was there.
Most of the staff are very attentive and caring,
occasionally the residents to the alarm bell was a little slow, especially at night time. Food was generally good, perhaps a little beans not a bad thing.
Reply from Rimi Sidhu, Eliza Palmer Care Home Manager at Eliza Palmer Nursing HomeThank you for your kind feedback. My father whose sight was severally impaired, was in the nursing home for just under a year. His room was large, light, immaculately clean with a lovely view. The nursing staff were responsive and kept me fully informed on all medical issues. The carers were friendly, supportive and kind when looking
after him. He enjoyed all the meals prepared for him and he liked the variety. He enjoyed the live music events arranged by the entertainment coordinator. My father became confined to his room as his health deteriorated and it would have been nice for the home to have someone to spend a little time to chat to room-bound residents.
Reply from Rimi Sidhu, Eliza Palmer Care Home Manager at Eliza Palmer Nursing HomeThank you so much for sharing your lovely words about your fathers time with us. Were so pleased to hear he was comfortable in his room and that you felt supported by our nurses and carers. It means a lot to know he enjoyed the meals and the live music those little moments of joy are so important. We also really appreciate your suggestion about having someone spend more time chatting with residents who are room-bound. This is valuable feedback, and well use it to keep improving the care and companionship we provide. It was our privilege to look after your father, and were grateful you trusted us with his care. With warmest regards,All of us at Eliza Palmer Care Home

I moved into the Eliza Palmer Home in January 2024 under the care of the current owner. Within a few months a meeting was called and the residents were told Eliza Palmer had been sold to Kingsley House Trust. We were assured the move would be seamless with improvements. Sadly the care went downhill,
it was rushed, up late to go to activities. Staff were leaving and the care at night was down to 1 carer for 15 residents. Activities have become less as the organiser is carer trained and helps out with the staff shortages. The new kitchen and chefs have improved the meal quality. I love my suite. The view from my window is of the gardens enjoyed by some of the residents. Sadly I do not consider the high rent value for money.
Reply from Stephen Pullinger, Marketing Manager at Eliza Palmer Nursing HomeSince taking over Eliza Palmer we have worked quickly to improve the service and made a substantial investment in a new kitchen, which was seen as the biggest priority by residents' families when we arrived. I am glad you have noticed an improvement in the meal quality and appreciate the quality of your bedroom suite. Our management team is always available and keen to listen to any suggestions for ways to improve our service and to take heed of things you believe we should be doing. We have a dedicated and passionate staff team and I must stress we have never been in the position of having only one carer working at night.

Our mother first attended Eliza Palmer at the height of Covid and we were immediately impressed with the duty of care and hygiene levels in the newly built facility. The last few years mum has experienced a cognitive decline, with communication difficult at times. However, she has always been very content
and happy with her carers, the food and room facilities. Kingsley Healthcare have recently acquired the home and I cannot express enough gratitude and admiration for the levels of care and regular communication we have about mum and her condition. The team are first class and we have complete confidence in mum's care and safeguarding.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.511)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.511) out of 10 for Eliza Palmer Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.561 for Eliza Palmer Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (170 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 239 Ratings = 4.561
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Eliza Palmer Nursing Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have lived in Walton with my family for over 30 years. Family is very important to me, I have a son, a daughter and a partner. I value a good work-life balance and enjoy reading, eating out with friends and spending time with loved ones. Caring for my father, who lived with Parkinson’s Disease was a deeply rewarding experience that reinforced my passion for providing person-centred care. This commitment led me to a career in adult social care, where I have worked for over 15 years. My vision for Eliza Palmer is to empower our team to continue delivering outstanding care, ensuring that every resident feels happy, valued, and achieves positive outcomes. I also look forward to strengthening our connections with the local community and making Eliza Palmer a true home for all who live here.

Job Title: Activities & Lifestyle Co-ordinator

After a career in Hospitality and catering, I joined the care sector during the challenging times of COVID in 2020. I realised that I really enjoyed being a carer and continued until joining Kingsley Healthcare in 2024 as activities coordinator, a role that I love. I feel that I make a real difference to the daily lives of our residents through planning regular activities as well as spending time with them on a one-to-one basis. Getting to know the residents is a delight, and I feel it is important to include them in the planning of our weekly activity programmes as well as consulting them on matters of the home through our resident representatives.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my 2 grown-up sons and friends. Cooking is a passion of mine, which is reflected in our regular cookery club activities. I also enjoy quizzing and keeping fit, also reflected in our activities.
