Mum arrived at Harrier Grange Care Home in October, she was recovering from an operation whilst grieving the loss of her husband and often confused and withdrawn with the onset of dementia.
The level of care and companionship she received is outstanding and has transformed her back into a relaxed,
happier Mum again. As a family we are so very grateful to all the team at Harrier Grange Care Home safe in the knowledge that Mum is being so well looked after.

My father is a resident at Harrier Grange Care Home, and having been there for six months now, I have to say just how impressed I am with the kindness of every single member of staff that I have met there. The manager listened to all my thoughts, worries and concerns as my father moved in during the
Covid lockdown. He and the rest of the team were both practical and kind - they not only cared for my father, they cared for me in this process too. The team that look after my father are so kind and totally "on it" - getting to know him, his likes and dislikes. Treating him with great respect and kindness, looking to ensure that he has as much fun and freedom as possible.
The lady on reception brings such life and light to every conversation - making every moment a cheerful one, whilst also extending compassion for difficult moments. I have a long way to come to visit, however, I am always so impressed - and deeply grateful. Thank you, team.

My lovely dad was living at Harrier Grange for 3 and a half years before he had his fall and couldn't recover, having also contracted pneumonia.
Whilst in the care of the home, he was given every opportunity to be as independent as possible and he greatly appreciated that. All staff got to know him
very well and took great care of his personal needs. The carers were absolutely great, through thick and thin. He had his moments with them, but they took it in their stride, appreciating his frustration over things that were out of his control.
He enjoyed the outings and the lovely grounds which he took advantage of during the Covid-19 period when going out was not an option. Toward the end, the staff kept in touch frequently when he was unwell. They liaised with the hospital and the doctor as well as the family. We cannot fault their care. The care at the end, sitting with him in his last moments were invaluable to us as a family who was not able to be with him. Thank you to all.

I would like to say that the care that is given to the residents at the care home is top-class. All the staff in all departments are so helpful no matter what you ask them for. There is one thing I do notice they have always got a smile on their faces. I will say that I could not find a better care
home for my wife anywhere as good as this one.

I couldn’t be happier with the amazing customer service, friendliness and helpfulness from every member of staff I dealt with, from the manager and his deputy to the reception staff to all the nursing and care staff, especially one carer who was brilliant with me and my mum.
I would highly recommend
Harrier Grange and the whole team as super caring.
The manager has been ever so patient with all my questions and queries and helping to assist me in moving all Mum's stuff in with my little wagon!
The whole experience was made easy for me and enabled me to make the room look homey for Mum.
Thank you all

My father first visited Harrier Grange Care Home for respite care but when he later returned and found independent living difficult he felt safe and welcome when he moved into the home full time. Through his time there - several years - he remained happy and well cared for and regarded the staff as
his friends and became very fond of them. When the Covid pandemic struck and it became impossible to visit my father it was comforting that his second family at Harrier Grange gave us all the support we needed during tough times - always accessible by phone to chat about my father and how he was doing. Staff have worked tirelessly to keep residents safe and provide the emotional support normally provided by families. My father turned 98 just before his death and although very frail they celebrated in style with one of Harrier Grange's wonderful cakes. When he slipped away just two weeks later their compassion and respect for him continued to the end and I was so grateful.

Grading is difficult. I would prefer a very good category where most results should be. Excellence with a high number of staff 24 hours a day is hard. Mum's experience up to March 2020 was very good. Everything on offer enjoyed - hairdresser, nails, chiropody, activities, new friends, lovely surroundings,
visitors including them booking lunch occasionally. She and we were happy. Then Covid-19 arrived. Lockdown followed. No visiting. Staff worked hard to help residents understand, keep them safe and families in touch using technology. Window visits were arranged followed by perspex screen indoor visits. More recently Mum's health deteriorated. I was informed and had the freedom to phone any time. I phoned her most days always to be told how kind and caring all staff were. Further decline and we the family could visit to be with Mum as end of life was nearing. The manager and staff were amazing caring for Mum and us. A peaceful passing. Thank you so much.

1. The Harrier Grange is spotlessly clean.
2. The food excellent. Very varied.
3. Could not wish for better staff. They are all very friendly and cheerful.
4. It would be nice if they had a bus for the capable residents to go on trips out.

From the 10 weeks experience of this care home, I can say everybody was very helpful from the lovely reception staff to the manager. In these very difficult times of Covid 19, we were kept up to date with the situation. I do feel that they are very short-staffed and this had a slight effect on personal
care (fingernails/toenails).
Reply from Baiju Punnasserry, General Manager at Harrier Grange Care HomeThank you for taking your time sending your valuable feedback. I have to admit that we had some delay in getting the Podiatric Service in time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has now resolved and my sincere apologies about that. Otherwise, I can confirm that the Home never faced any staff shortage as we always have an alternative arrangement to cover sickness and absence. We will consider your feedback to improve our future service. Many thanks.

My aunt was very well taken care of. I live in the states so talking to her was our only contact. She was deaf but had hearing aids linked to her phone. Every Sunday I would call around the same time. This meant I had to call the front desk to ask if they could go down to her room and sync the hearing
aids to the phone. They did this week after week and it wasn't easy. I would like to thank them for going the extra mile. Whenever she was ill or had a fall I got a call with a full explanation. That meant a lot to me. Harrier Grange did what they advertise I would wholeheartedly recommend this home.

My mother moved into Harrier Grange about a year ago and we couldn’t be happier with the care and support she’s been given. Mum has dementia and unfortunately does not recognise us anymore but the staff have been amazing, she’s always dressed smart and her hair tidy. When Mum went through a stage
of losing her appetite she was gently nursed back to health and is now eating and drinking normally. It’s been an incredibly difficult time for everyone during the pandemic and not being able to visit Mum has been hard for us all, but we know we can always Skype or get an update by ringing the very knowledgeable staff on her floor. It was an emotional time when she had to go into a new home but we are so glad she is in Harrier Grange, it’s a lovely Care Home and we can’t thank the staff enough for the kindness and consideration they are showing our dear Mum.

My mother was in Harrier Grange for just under a year until she passed away. The care provided was excellent; the staff were compassionate and caring and always prepared to go the extra mile to keep the residents happy. The facilities were first class, the food was excellent, the hairdresser and nail
service were an added bonus, there were regular events organised to keep the residents occupied. My mother hadn't looked and felt so good for a long time. In the background, the health and safety procedures were followed rigorously. If there was the slightest incident or illness, I was informed at once by telephone or email. The management were keen to respond to the requests of residents and their families. I had complete confidence in the changes put in place to protect the residents during lockdown. All in all, Harrier Grange is a perfect example of how you would want your loved ones to be looked after in their last days.

I never thought I would be in such a lovely nursing home. The grounds are beautiful and you feel so welcome. The manager and staff did so much for me during my 3 weeks stay. They always greet you with a smile no matter if they have been working 12 hr shifts.
I came here a nervous wreck but went home
a different person. I would love to end my life here if my health deteriorates. Thank you all once again. I wish you good luck for the future.

I have always found the Manager and staff to be very caring and show nothing but kindness towards the residents. The home has a very warm and welcoming feel when you visit. The residents are treated with kindness and the utmost respect and dignity is given to every resident. Their well being is
paramount from what I have seen. There are lots of activities and they are also able to go out with help and support to the pub opposite. Their every need is met. The home is well run and is very clean and is just like a Hotel. Each room is very tastefully decorated and very clean. The food is good and I would most definitely recommend it to anyone requiring care for their elderly relative. I have visited quite a few care homes and this is, in my opinion, one of the best.

After a long period of deterioration at home, where she also suffered debilitating agoraphobia, my mother was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and transferred to Harrier Grange to see out her remaining days. In those days at home we “lost” the mother that we all knew because of the effects of her
anxiety and cancer, and the strain of taking care of her took its toll on my father. Thanks to the tremendous care and support she received from the Harrier Grange team we regained our mother for her final weeks; her cheekiness returned, she was able to tell us stories again, she was almost back to her old self. Without exception, my mother spoke highly of how each and every one of the staff that looked after her did so with care, sensitivity, thoughtfulness and affection. This is all the more impressive because of the challenges that Harrier Grange had to contend with in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. There is no more than a family could ask for.

My husband was accepted into Harrier Grange mid-December 2019 after spending several weeks in the hospital recovering from a fall and suffering from long term dementia. This was a different world for both of us. I cannot stress how great the staff were in trying to make it feel like home for my husband
and make him feel comfortable in his new surroundings. Harrier Grange is an excellent care home, with staff who really care and I must mention the activity team, who really try hard to ensure the residents are stimulated as much as they can. Lovely memories they have given me.

My husband was admitted to hospital from our home and it was later decided he needed 24/7 care. Of course, I was shocked that he wouldn’t be coming home and having no visitors allowed to visit during this pandemic just seemed so cruel. But I need not have worried. When I was told he was being moved
to Harrier Grange I couldn’t believe our luck as our house is only a 10minute walk away. I was shown around the basic areas and his would-be bedroom that was so lovely and homely and had an en-suite. I was allowed to see him when he arrived to help him settle in his room. He said the home was “fabulous”. Since him being there, I have now met and talked by phone to some of the staff, nurses and carers. They have all been wonderful and so helpful and caring. Nothing is too much trouble. The facilities are great and lots of activities to stop the residents from getting bored or depressed. I was so concerned at first and felt so guilty but I am now so happy he is there. Thank you.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.838) out of 10 for Harrier Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.988 for Harrier Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (160 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 162 Ratings = 4.988
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Harrier Grange Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
