The staff were amazing! Caring, kind, welcoming and professional. My friend was looked after at Middleton Lodge as he had dementia and couldn't manage at home. The care he was given was excellent. Things in his room were labelled for easy access, activities put on to entertain, exercise the mind and make friendships and his room was calm and peaceful for when he needed to rest. The ensuite, big double bed, drawer units, wardrobes and drinks whenever he wanted them, made it his home from home. Every time we visited we were greeted by staff by our names and given a warm welcome and refreshments. My friend was quite frail and confused at times but the staff provided excellent medical attention and adapted to his changing mobility. I am very grateful for all that the staff at Middleton Lodge did for my friend and the organisation and senior staff should be commended for making this care home a place of excellence.

After a fall at home living independently, Dad decided he wanted to be looked after. We chose Middleton Lodge as it is clean, the staff are friendly, and the facilities are good. After living here for 2 weeks dad has some days when he is happy, and other days struggling to adjust. The staff are patient and kind, his needs are met, and his dignity is respected. We enjoy visiting and enjoy the coffee.

Having just had hip replacement surgery, I was feeling anxious and vulnerable when I arrived. I was made very welcome and quickly felt safe and cared for. The fortnight that I stayed there has been a lovely experience. The staff have been so caring and competent, nothing has been too much trouble. I have been encouraged and supported in my progress. My room is spacious, pleasant and very clean and comfortable. It has all the facilities I could want, even a smart TV! I'm going home tomorrow and feel ready but I will miss everyone here.

It was a tough decision to put my mother into residential care. But I'm glad for her sake I did. When my dad passed away mum was lonely but at Middleton Lodge she wants for nothing. Great food, company and stimulation. The activities are amazing but especially loves anything that she can dance and sing to. Keep up the good work.

We have used Middleton Lodge a few times for respite care for our mum, and she is now a full time resident there. We are delighted with the care given not only to mum but also to dad who still lives at home. It is the first time they have lived apart for 67 years and both find it difficult but the staff and managers have all embraced dad and made him feel at home as well. They provided and decorated a space for a family gathering for their 90th birthdays. They made their wedding anniversary special. The level of care is excellent and medical support from the linked doctors surgery cannot be faulted. The activities offered every day are varied and although mum doesn't really show much interest in things the staff take her along to join in.
The place is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and residents are encouraged to make their wedding anniversary room their own.

The manager is approachable, warm, sensitive and incredibly supportive.

My dad has settled well into the home. The staff from my perspective are very helpful and kind. The home is well maintained and doesn't have the feel of a traditional care home. There is always plenty going on throughout the week to keep people entertained. One improvement from my dads perspective, would be to have more staff on duty after 8pm as this leads to delays on being attended to.

Reply from Joanne Graves, Home Manager at Middleton Lodge Care Home - Avery Healthcare

Thank you for your review and overall positive comments. I appreciate that at times loved ones have to wait a short time to be assisted, however please be assured that the staffing levels are in line with resident dependency and acuity of the residents . We will try and ensure that your dad is attended when he requires help.

Since my father has been a resident here at Middleton Lodge, his dementia has changed so much for the better. He's so much happier and keen to interact with staff and other residents. Everyone I've met or come in contact with staff-wise is incredible. So happy and glad my dad is spending the twilight years here in such a wonderful, caring and professional place. Can't thank you all enough.

The care my father received at Middleton Lodge was excellent. My father was suffering with dementia and moved there in March 2025 following a hospital admission and it was no longer possible to keep him at home. He was a resident for 6 months. He was treated as an individual with immense kindness and respect. The staff are very friendly, devoted to the people they care for and deal with difficult situations in their stride. There are a remarkable range of activities organised for the residents. It is a very 'active' community, just look on social media, but it is still possible to find a quiet lounge when needed. The building itself is very warm and welcoming. It is new build and therefore specifically designed. The rooms are very spacious and spotlessly clean. Thank you for exceeding our expectations.

I was a service user for 10 days respite care. The home itself was extremely well decorated and clean it was a pleasure to move round the many sitting rooms and corridors.
The garden area was lovely to sit in and nice to sit and get some fresh air.
The food was excellent with a good choice and range of meals together with a variety of fresh fruit.
Finally the staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

A very enjoyable respite care stay.

I am so impressed with the experience my husband has had this time in respite. He has been involved in so many diverse and interesting activities, which have kept him stimulated and occupied. He seems to have enjoyed them all, including games in 'the men's room'. I know he appreciates the support and friendliness of the staff, as have I. I particularly appreciated the email updates. It was also useful to see photos of my husband happily participating (on social media).

I am very grateful to all the staff at Middleton Lodge for the care they have given to my mother. They provide world class care and enthusiasm ably led by the manager of the home. The staff are engaging and continue to encourage my mother on a daily basis. Accommodation is excellent as is the food. Staff are extremely welcoming to family members. The manager has been a previous healthcare professional and this is reflected on the high standards of care.

My experience of respite care was generally really positive, especially as I arrived from hospital around 5:00pm on a Friday evening. There were so many issues - a) Due due to my medical condition I needed a special diet, it took several days before I could explain this to the chef. I was concerned until when I was making a fuss b) over my 2nd weekend, my strong pain relief almost ran out and I had to manage with paracetamol which was far less effective. An oversight had led to it not having been reordered earlier. The activities, the friendly yet professional staff, and the opportunity for privacy if I wanted it we welcoming. The hospitality was good.
