Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
We have been very pleased with Quarry House. When my mother moved here initially 4 weeks after being at death's door in hospital for 6 weeks, we did not expect her to survive. However, the care she received from the carers and nurses has made her brighter, healthier and happier than she has been for
years.
Reply from Richard Crocker, CEO at Quarry HouseThank you for this great review. I am really pleased that we have been able to provide such a good standard of care for your mother. I will make sure that the team get this feedback.

Staff seem to know residents very well in terms of their preferences and routines.
Activity is good although there could be more but again it seems person-centred.
Extremely clean environment, staff always inform me if there are any incidents such as falls or illness.
This is the second care home
my father has been in and looking back, I believe I should have moved him to Quarry House earlier.

Review from Jenny O (Friend of Resident) published on 18 October 2018 Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
Almost without exception, the staff are polite and very caring to my friend. She was keen to find a proper "home" for herself and this we have done. She particularly wanted a good activity programme and to be local for friends to visit. Quarry House has fulfilled both requirements. They are flexible
to her need for early showers and late homecoming as she is active with outside interests. After the settling in period she does feel at home with a very pleasant room full of her own "stuff".
Reply from Richard Crocker, CEO at Quarry HouseThank you for this positive review, I am very pleased to hear that we have been able to meet the needs of your friend so well, as this is always our aim. The staff will also appreciate the positive feedback and I will make sure that your comments are fed back to them.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.288)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.288) out of 10 for Quarry House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.565 for Quarry House is calculated as follows: ( (107 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 147 Ratings = 4.565
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.723 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Quarry House is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13. 12 Positive Reviews ÷ 13 = 0.923
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nurse Manager Joined: 2019

I started my career in nursing in 1979 working as a nursing assistant in a long-stay hospital in Bromham in Bedfordshire. I then moved to Bristol in 1985 to complete my nurse training, working and living in the nurses’ home at Hortham Hospital for people with learning disabilities.

I had found my vocation.

I managed my first nursing home as a registered manager of Clifton Park in 1997 – this was a 21-bed nursing home where I stayed for ten years.

I continued to work for the Brandon Trust in various managerial roles until I retired in 2017. At this point in my career, I had worked in the nursing field for a total of 38 years.

I lasted 6 weeks of retirement – it just did not suit me! In my search for a new challenge, I found Quarry House, my forever job. I love the values and the philosophy of the organisation. Geoff Crocker, our Chairman, who interviewed me for the post inspired me beyond belief. He was so passionate about the Bristol Care Homes group, that I just wanted to work at Quarry House. The intimacy of Bristol Care Homes radiates across the teams who work for the homes across the group.

Bristol Care Homes invests in people they are interested in their staff and the residents they support.

My hobbies are holidays, renovating my cottage, and my grandchildren. One day I will try retirement again; until then I remain in my forever role at Quarry House.

Job Title: Deputy Nurse Manager Joined: 2022

I am an experienced Registered Nurse who joined Bristol Care Homes as a Deputy Home Manager in December 2022.

My experience stems from working in a clinical setting as a Registered Nurse and ward manager in a specialised service for adults with an acquired brain injury requiring care and treatment with complex physical and cognitive impairments and challenging behaviours.

Having this experience has enabled me to gain a wealth of clinical knowledge and transferable skills that will enable me to enhance my role at Quarry House and ensure that the residents receive person-centred care and support the staff to deliver this.

I am very personable and enjoy having the opportunity to work within a multi-professional setting.

I enjoy watching quizzes, historical dramas especially Poldark, and watching any film with Keanu Reeve in.
