Richmond Aston-on-Trent care home is nestled in the heart of the retirement village, with a range of state-of-the-art facilities not usually found in a care home.

Facilities and services include a Wellness Spa with a heated accessible swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, spa treatment rooms, hair and nail salon as well as a restaurant, café-bar, library, activities room, various lounges and terrace areas. The village is surrounded by spacious landscaped gardens which are wheelchair accessible and a sensory garden, specially designed for those living with dementia.

The 61-bed care home provides nursing and residential dementia care in a beautifully present environment. All rooms are tastefully decorated by a team of specialist interior designers and feature an electric profiling bed, en-suite shower room, a range of furniture, TV & telephone points and Wi-Fi access. Many enjoy views of the surrounding gardens and games lawn.

Residents are supported to live a healthy and happy life in the very best environment with a dedicated and highly skilled care team. The care team are supported by the Richmond Aston-on-Trent hospitality team, who provide nutritious meals, while the activities team provide a range of social and recreational activities carefully designed to meet everyone's needs.

Respite breaks are available for two weeks or more. If you are a carer looking for a rest yourself but don’t want to be too far away from your loved one. It is possible to book these stays in advance. Convalescence care is available. They also offer independent living apartments and assisted living apartments.

My husband came into the Dovedale Care Home to convalesce, following two weeks in hospital with pneumonia. Whilst he recovered from the infection, his Parkinson's Disease, which he had had for many years, had deteriorated significantly and he was never well enough to go home again. He died seven weeks
after leaving hospital. The care he had was wonderful. All the carers and nurses were good, kind and patient and the vast majority of them went far further than I could possibly have expected. They could not have cared for him better if he had been their own family.

This feedback is for the Milldale dementia unit. We have experienced serious problems since Dad came in February - high staff turnover, changes in management, lots of agency staff, lack of stimulation and suitable activities, poor record keeping. My father isn't an easy person to deal with but they
don't seem able to cope with the wide array of complex needs that the patients have and there's only a handful so far.
I'm sure the retirement village is lovely, but Milldale is struggling. The staff are generally kind but several of them have told me of their dissatisfaction of how it's run, before eventually leaving themselves. My father is currently on the waiting list for another (much better) care home which indicates how seriously we feel about this. I am regularly meeting with management so know they admit to these shortcomings themselves.
If you're thinking of coming to Milldale, check the CQC report for the care home, not the retirement village.

A lovely care home with very friendly staff. Everyone was welcoming, helpful and attentive. The occasion was for respite care amounting to two weeks after leaving hospital. The staff were able to arrange for the stay quickly and efficiently, which was a great help to the family.

Coming here straight from "hospital" gave me a very relaxed feeling. I am in my second week as a resident and go home on Friday.
The restful living and being looked after and helped whenever I needed someone was so very comforting.
I am sure I have gained some of the energy back I desperately needed
and will go home feeling so much better.

After several months of being poorly we were looking for somewhere special for our very precious mum to have two weeks respite. We visited Richmond Aston-on-Trent and it was clear that this was the place. Everything was what we wanted for her. From the warm welcome, the decor, the cleanliness and whilst

Staff are always friendly and helpful, I felt welcome as soon as dad arrived. The food was good quality and consistent and they were welcoming to family and friends and always inclusive in activities. The room was always clean and tidy and so were the communal areas, generally calm and peaceful. Gym,
hairdresser and beautician were convenient and very helpful as on site.


Feedback would be that doors could be difficult to manage for a disabled person, the bathroom door in my dad's room could stick and be very difficult for even an able-bodied person to open.


Sometimes it could be difficult to find staff.

My father, at 89, had been an active resident enjoying life at his apartment at Aston, but a saga of post-op infection, pneumonia and deep vein thrombosis resulted in prolonged and debilitating stays in hospital. When it became apparent that discharge to a nursing home was the best course our first
thought was the one here because of dad's familiarity with the surroundings and staff. The Village managers speedily assessed him and prepared a case for the local Continuing Healthcare Committee and were very pleased when he was transferred over. Although he was very unwell on arrival, we believe that the atmosphere created by all the staff and the ease of visiting by family and friends (which includes members of staff) contributed greatly to his well-being. From bleak beginnings, we have seen steady progress. His appetite and energy levels are much improved and we have been able to watch him move from confinement to bed, to tours of the grounds by wheelchair, to starting to walk again: All of this seemed a very unlikely dream when he left hospital.

Really very happy with the high level of care and compassion my Mother is receiving. The facilities and environment created at Richmond, along with a strong management, nursing and care team deliver consistent and reassuring care to both my Mother and her family. The huge change to my Mothers life following
her stroke has been managed with dignity and compassion throughout and she is settling well into her new life at Richmond.

Both myself and my Mother have been delighted with her move into Richmond Village. Her ensuite room is of a very high standard. All three dining facilities we have used have been excellent both in terms of the staff, the food and the rooms.


My mum moved from an outstanding retirement village in the

North, and Richmond matches it in every aspect and surpasses it in some. We would have no hesitation in highly recommend Richmond Village to anyone seeking such an establishment.

My mother was very happy during her 6 weeks of respite care. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were always clean and very homely, with plenty of magazines/books.
There were sometimes that my mother felt that they were short staffed due to the wait, but that was only sometimes. The food was
ok. The only comment my mother made was regarding the activities and whether the times could have been different. The morning times could be later, the elderly need a rest after the exertion of getting up, washed, and dressed. And the afternoon times could be later so that those who need a snooze after lunch don’t miss out. My mother would definitely return in her words “to end her days” there, lovely surroundings, peaceful, somewhere visitors would enjoy coming to visit, and the fact that you could be in your room if you wanted, but you could also have company too.

The facilities are excellent and the environment is very welcoming. It has the feeling of a luxury hotel.
The staff have been extremely helpful through the process of moving my mum from hospital. It is obvious that they have a genuine interest in the welfare of the residents.

My father had a week’s respite in the care home following several hospital admissions. There was a good balance between giving him the care that he needed and encouraging him to regain his independence. He has now returned to his own home and is doing well.

Extremely comfortable and attractive surroundings. Rooms are beautifully furnished and warm. My father has everything he needs. The nursing care has been superb. I have worked at Richmond for nearly 7 years, I joined Richmond as a domiciliary care assistant and then moved to a senior domiciliary care assistant before taking on the domiciliary care manager role nearly 3 years ago. Before joining Richmond I worked as a domiciliary carer in the local community for 7 years.
I enjoy working at Richmond as you get to build strong relationships with the people you look after and you get to them before needing care as you see them around the village. This really helps as you ae able to notice when people start to decline and are able to support them to make a person centred care plan around their needs and wishes.
I manage a team of carers that provide care to people that live in independent and assisted living apartments. The care calls are booked in advance at their time preference and for how long they wish the care call to be. We can support people with personal care, dressing, medication administrating, cleaning, support to activities and to the restaurant. We are also able to offer companionship calls, shopping calls and assistance to doctors and hospital appointments etc
Before I worked in adult care I worked in child care where I started as a nursery nurse and worked my way up to be a manager of a 120 placed nursery.
I have always enjoyed caring for people and helping them get the best out of their lives.

I have worked for Richmond Villages for nearly 2 years with previous experience being within both management and valuing roles in both corporate and independent residential estate agency companies across the east midlands. There is a great sense of achievement when a new family move into our village, as it becomes very apparent that they will be able to start their later life in an environment that is aimed at enjoyment and a healthier lifestyle. To be a part of that is priceless.

Job Title: Head of Hospitality

With over 27 years of experience as a chef, I have had the privilege of working in diverse catering environments, ranging from café-style dining to à la carte cuisine. My journey in the culinary world began in the hotel and restaurant sector, where I honed my skills for many years. A decade ago, I ventured into the care sector and discovered a new passion. I started as a part-time chef in a care home, where I developed a keen interest in the science of nutrition and the importance of providing high-quality meals tailored to individual dietary needs. Collaborating closely with speech and language therapists, as well as dietitians from the NHS, I became well-versed in this critical aspect of care. Over the years, I worked my way up to the position of Development Chef for a major care company. I am now excited to embark on this new journey with Richmond Villages.

Job Title: Head of Activities Joined: 2021

Prior to joining Richmond Village in September 2021, I worked as a Project Manager in the automotive industry. I initially joined Richmond Villages as an Activities Co-Ordinator, before moving into the Head of Activities role in March 2023. I love supporting the Activities Team in planning and delivering a wide and varied programme of activities and events for all our residents at Richmond Villages. I am lucky to live in Aston-on-Trent and have close links and good relationships within the wider community through my work with local schools, businesses, groups and charities, which greatly benefit our residents.
