Mum was admitted to The Avenue Nursing Home, requiring nursing care. I knew at once that this was the place for Mum and she has been a resident for over two years, throughout which her care has been exemplary. There has only been one issue which was resolved quickly, completely to our satisfaction and
I have only positive things to say about all staff there who helped Mum live life as fully as possible.
Mum struggled with the hoist needed to transfer her to her special, comfortable chair and carers invented ways to help her relax (Avenue airways, singing) and Mum was no longer frightened. Mum also enjoyed outings to church and the garden centre, despite her care needs.
Nothing has been too much trouble. Her special diet was accommodated and as Mum’s health failed, she was loved, cared for and able to pass away with dignity in her room. Mum looked on the Avenue staff as family and on the death of my father in November 2023 and Mum's death in December 2023, we have all been embraced by the love and care of The Avenue family.

Our mum stayed in The Avenue for approximately three months. We could not fault the care, compassion and dignity they gave our mum during her final months. We were kept up to date with everything regarding Mum's care, and nothing was too much trouble for the amazing staff there. Mum enjoyed the food,
especially the desserts and having her hair and nails done. Every time we visited, she told us, "the staff are lovely", and we ourselves found the staff friendly, caring, cheerful and attentive.
The home always appeared clean and well-led. Mum's clothes were laundered by the lovely housekeeping staff, who always chatted with Mum when they came into her room. My sister, my brother and I would like to thank all the wonderful staff involved in our mum's care. I would highly recommend The Avenue to anyone who may be looking for a Nursing/Care Home for a loved one.

Whilst in Greece, we received news that the care home my father-in-law was in, and had been in for 2 years, was being closed down. This was a very difficult time as my father-in-law has dementia. We are his only family and we were not in the country, to handle this emergency and view care homes. We
spoke to the manager at The Avenue Care Home which is situated in Clayton and not only were they helpful and professional, but they made us feel they would welcome my father-in-law personally and care for him until we returned. We received daily calls to keep us posted about how he had settled in and they set up his room and bathroom for us. We even got photos of him in the day room enjoying the cricket with a shandy. We have not seen my father-in-law look as happy for a long time, so much so, that we have had the picture printed and framed. In that one picture, we could see my 'old' father-in-law. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. It's the little, simple gestures that make all the difference.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.975) out of 10 for The Avenue Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.975 for The Avenue Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (231 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 237 Ratings = 4.975
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Avenue Nursing Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I’ve been dedicated to mental health for many years, growing up around nursing homes, with both my parents and grandparents working as nurses and running a care home in our local village. I was surrounded by elderly care from a young age. This early experience inspired my passion for healthcare, leading me to gain a degree in Mental Health Nursing in 2004 and become a registered nurse. Since qualifying as a nurse, I have nursed elderly people all throughout my nursing career and became a registered manager in 2010.

I have been actively working within the Holt family care group for a number of years alongside my wife Emma, who is also a registered nurse as well as my brothers and sister. My focus has always been on person-centred care, ensuring residents receive the best possible support in a familiar and compassionate environment.

Outside of work, I have an active family life with my three children as well as playing golf and keeping a Japanese koi pond. I am passionate about making a difference in dementia care, and I’m proud to be part of The Avenue Nursing Home, helping to create a safe, supportive and caring home for all the residents who reside there.

My role in care began in 2011 when I joined one of Europe’s oldest universities to study nursing. I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2014 and have been dedicated to clinical practice ever since. Throughout my career, I’ve remained committed to continuous learning, which has led me to pursue additional qualifications in leadership and management.

Since The Avenue Nursing Home opened in 2021, I’ve been proud to be part of its founding team. From the beginning, I have invested my passion and dedication into helping develop a service that strives for the highest standards in care. Over time, dementia and elderly care have become the heart of my professional focus, shaping a vision centred on innovation and compassionate care.

What truly sets The Avenue apart is the bond within our team. We share a collective commitment to compassionate, person-centred care, and support one another in delivering the very best. I am proud to work alongside such dedicated professionals in an environment where every resident is treated with dignity, respect, and understanding.

I have worked at The Avenue Nursing Home since September 2021, when it first opened its doors. Prior to that, I managed The Glen Nursing Home alongside my husband, Danny. I have worked within elderly care for the last 12 years.

I started my career after qualifying as a Registered Nurse on the Intensive Care Unit at Leeds General Infirmary. For 10 years, I worked in this high-paced environment, gaining many valuable skills. I loved this role, but after starting a family decided it was time for a change.

I am deeply passionate about working with elderly individuals, and I consider it a privilege to support them during the later years of their lives. Providing compassionate, person-centred care that enhances their quality of life. I believe that every person deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued, especially during their final years.

Through my work, I aim to create a warm and supportive environment where residents feel at home. I take pride in building meaningful relationships with each individual, listening to their stories, and understanding their unique needs and preferences, whether it’s assisting with daily activities or offering a listening ear.

I’m deeply committed to improving the quality of life for our residents, ensuring that every resident experiences dignity, comfort and happiness, because everyone deserves the highest standard of care, no matter their age or condition.

At The Avenue, we pride ourselves on providing constant education and training to our team, which impacts the care our residents receive. The Avenue is a family where our residents, their families, and our team all work together to make it a home.

As the Administrator at The Avenue Nursing Home, my role is both varied and rewarding – no two days are ever the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most about my work. I take pride in being part of such a compassionate and dedicated team, and I genuinely believe The Avenue is a truly special place to work.

While my core responsibilities involve managing the administrative functions of the home, I also love being involved in the day-to-day life of our residents. Supporting them brings great fulfilment, and I’m always happy to lend a hand to other teams whenever needed.

Being part of The Avenue means being part of a family – and I’m proud to contribute to the smooth running of a home where care, respect, and community come first.

I am a dual-qualified nurse with over 28 years of post-qualification experience in the field of general and mental health nursing overseas and here in the United Kingdom. Ever since I came to the UK, I have been working mainly in the elderly healthcare sector, caring for people diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia, people who have various mental health conditions, as well as people diagnosed with learning disability.

I have worked for this group for nearly 10 years. I was employed to work for The Glen Nursing Home in 2016 and moved to The Avenue Nursing Home. I enjoy working for the group because of the direct hands-on approach of the proprietors, who are also professional nurses. I have stayed with the group for the past 10 years due to their commitment to excel in high standards of care, as well as their commitment to staff training to ensure continuous professional development.
