My husband and I visited several nursing homes when we were considering respite care, Thorpe Wood came out top of the list although we were concerned that we might have to go on a waiting list. The need for permanent care came quicker than we expected and thanks to the management staff my husband was able to become a resident. The rooms are well designed and very comfortable. The whole building is made to feel like 'home'. Meals are wholesome and varied. Staff are attentive and caring, you could not ask for more. This is somewhere you should visit and put on your 'What if' list.
This is a wonderful care home where mum was made welcome from her very first day. All the staff are so caring and are brilliant at seeing to mum's needs in such a respectful and helpful way. Mum particularly loves all the musical events and anything to do with arts and crafts. There's nearly always something to keep her entertained and engaged. I have total peace of mind knowing mum is so well cared for.
It's wonderful to know how much she enjoys our musical events and arts and...
Very caring and friendly staff the management are readily available and very supportive to resident's family. No one appears phased by the unpredictable behaviour of some residents. Activities are varied and the coordinators are hardworking, bubble people who enjoy their time with the residents. The garden is wel maintained and attractive. We are very pleased our family member is a resident at Thorpe Wood at this challenging time.
We're delighted that you've experienced the kindness and support of our staff and management team, especially during what we appreciate can be a difficult and emotional time for families. It's particularly...
My mother, despite being physically frail had remained independent, living at home alone at age 100 +. However, a fall forced her to accept a change was required. We viewed several care homes but found the welcome at Thorpe Wood exceptional. The home is light and airy, windows on all sides looking onto gardens and trees. Large rooms allow a resident to personalise with items from home. Every member of staff smiles, greets you warmly and help and advice is never a problem.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review Helen and for taking the time to share your experience with Thorpe Wood.
We understand how difficult it can be to make the decision to move into care, especially after your mother had maintained such incredible independence for over 100 years. It means...
Great service, personal care carried out with dignity. Friendly, welcoming staff. My dad was extremely well cared for, thank you.
We're delighted to hear that your dad received such personal care, delivered with dignity and compassion. Providing a warm, welcoming environment and ensuring every resident feels respected...
My sister and I viewed other care homes in Peterborough and found Thorpe Wood to be the best for our dear mum, as her dementia meant she could no longer live safely in her own home. We did have to wait a few weeks for a room with a garden view. The room was spacious and we were able to bring some of mum's furniture. In the 18 months mum lived in the home there was very little attrition, which shows happy, well looked after staff. Mum was treated with care and compassion they would go out of their to include mum in the daily activities and group events. We were able to request the food mum liked. When mum was unwell the same doctor used to visit which for someone with dementia, this is very beneficial. When mum was end of life, we didn't want her to go to hospital, we were able to stay with her in her room and she had a very dignified passing the nursing care was outstanding. Thoroughly recommend this care home.
We feel truly honoured that you chose Thorpe Wood for your mum's care, and we're so pleased she felt safe, comfortable, and at home with us. It's wonderful to hear that both her environment and the activities helped enrich her time...
An excellent care home which is first class in so many ways. From the moment you walk in through the door, you can feel the atmosphere is fresh and see the decor is well maintained. The staff are ever friendly and ever caring. The lady in charge of entertainment is a gem; I cannot speak too highly of it.
Peter, we're delighted that you felt the warm and welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrived, as creating a comfortable, homely environment is so important to us. It's also wonderful to hear your feedback about our team; their kindness, dedication, and genuine care are at the heart of...
Considering mum didn't have a good time in her last 2 care homes, staff soon won mum round, gaining their trust. Mum paid after 6 weeks 'it's nice here'. Mum always looked clean, hair brushed and styled and her clothes colour matches, which was nice to see. Staff always greeted us with a smile and wave, made us feel very welcome and like family. Would make us a drink, have a chat, laugh, and joke. Entertainment and activities was absolutely brilliant the resident's family could get involved too. Would certainly recommend Thorpe Wood Care, the team did a fantastic job looking after mum. Well done to all.
On behalf of everyone at Thorpe Wood Care Home, we're so pleased to hear that your mum was able to settle in and feel happy with us, especially after her previous experiences. Hearing her say...
The family were anxious to know how Mum would settle in her new home, but we did not have any need to be worried.
Ever since day one, Mum has been treated with kindness, dignity, respect, love and attention.
Mum is attended to whenever we ask for assistance, she is socialised with other residents, she is taken to activities, her personal care is exemplary, and since losing a lot of weight, the staff have been attentive to her needs with food and have designed menus suitable for her.
I cannot speak highly enough of every single carer. They are all so lovely, and nothing is ever too much trouble.
The nurses and management are also very friendly and approachable.
We no longer worry about leaving Mum, as she is very well loved and cared for her in new home.
We know how difficult moving a loved one can be, especially after a challenging experience, so we're truly pleased to hear your mum has settled in so well at Thorpe Wood and that you now feel reassured.
It's wonderful to know she is being...
My husband has been resident at Thorpe Wood Care Home from 7/7/2022 - 16/1/26. All staff have given my late husband respect regarding his wishes not to participate in activities or join other residents for meals. They organised suitable meals to eat in his room and helped him into and out of transport for outings. Cleaning staff have worked around him respectively. Nursing staff ensured he had his medications on time and all staff did their best to encourage him. Thank you Thorpe Wood!
On behalf of everyone at Thorpe Wood Care Home, we want to say how privileged we feel to have cared for your husband during his time with us. It means a great deal to hear that his wishes were respected and that he was supported in a way that honoured his independence and personal...
Mum came to Thorpe Wood for respite for four weeks, and has been made very welcome, she has said she is so happy and feels very at home here. She loves how friendly everyone is and all the activities. And she has decided to make this ger home on a permanent basis.
We are absolutely delighted to hear that your mum felt so welcome during her respite stay and that she quickly began to feel at home with us. Creating a warm, friendly and supportive environment where residents feel...
Both my sister and myself are very happy with the care our mother receives at Thorpe Wood Care Home. The staff are dedicated and attentive. They meet all of mum's needs. They provide a happy and calm environment for all the residents. Tizzy and Sofia provide excellent mental stimulus for mum as well. It's a great team at Thorpe Wood. Please don't change anything!
Your kind words about our team are...
My sister has only been here a short while but our experience is top rate. Staff are all very friendly and caring. Rooms clean and tidy.
Thank you for this lovely review Hazel. We are glad to hear that your experience of Thorpe Wood has been so positive. We'll be sure to share with the team :)
Our mum came to Thorpe Wood care home in 2025, following a fall at home and a hospital stay, where it was decided her needs could no longer be met at home. She was welcomed at Thorpe Wood with open arms - hugged, and gently guided to her new room. The care since that day has been wonderful, and as a family we have been kept up to date and involved. Mum enjoys the daily activities which range from watercolour painting to listening to singers and pianists. She particularly loves the gardens, with the fish pond and sheltered gazebo so she can be outside even when the weather isn't great. The staff understand mum's needs and look after her well. We are so glad that mum has found her new home at Thorpe Wood during what is a difficult time of her life.
Thank you so much for your lovely review and for sharing your mum's journey with us at Thorpe Wood care home. We know how emotional the transition into care can be, so we're truly pleased that she was welcomed with warmth from her very first day and that you've felt informed, involved, and...
The meals are very well planned and plentiful and there is a thorough activities programme.
The individual rooms are spacious and clean.
It is reassuring to know that your loved one is in such a caring, professional and supportive environment.
We are incredibly grateful for your kind words about our whole team. It means so much to know that every member of staff, across all roles, takes the time to know your husband personally and make him...
We chose Thorpe Wood care home for our mother just over a year ago.
We are so pleased we made the right choice for our Mum who has Alzheimers.
The home is modern purpose built, beautifully decorated and very clean. Staff are excellent and her care needs are catered for extremely well.
The activities are excellent and our Mum has really benefitted from the stimulation from the entertainment - she loves the piano sing alongs, weekly disco and monthly church service. Organised events for family have also been great for us all to participate in.
The level of detail in the care reports is excellent and shows the extent of their knowledge of the residents and care provided.
Our Mum is has improved with regard to her diet, sleep, hydration and routine medication and is so much happier and less anxious since moving in. We can now have much better conversations with her as she feels secure and cared for.
We would certainly recommend Thorpe Wood to other families.
Sally
We are delighted to hear how well your Mum has settled at Thorpe Wood and how positively she is benefiting from her care, activities, and surroundings. Knowing she feels secure, happier, and less anxious - and that you're able to enjoy...
100% effot from the kind staff.

It is a modern well appointed home with excellent facilities for the residents.
My mother has dementia and multiple sclerosis which means looking after her is extremely challenging. This is where the homes best asset , its staff, come into their own. Nothing is too much trouble, and the level of attention and support given to my mother has been above and beyond my expectations.
From my mother's perspective ,she enjoys the food and menu options which are varied and cooked on the premises. Her room is kept extremely clean and tidy. Activities are varied and there is always something going on which keeps the mood and energy levels up.
I can say nothing but positive things about the home ,and its staff ,and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anybody whose loved one needs to be in residential care.
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful review Gary. We are truly grateful for the trust you have placed in Thorpe Wood since your mother joined us in July 2023. It means a great deal to know that the care, attention and support provided by our team has exceeded your...
My Father has been a resident of Thorpe Wood Care Home since April. As a family, we couldn't be happier with the level of care Dad is receiving. All the care and nursing staff are fabulous, nothing is ever too much trouble, and we feel secure in the knowledge that Dad is safe and well looked after. The Activities Coordinator does an outstanding job in lifting the spirits of the residents, staff and families, with the likes of arts and crafts, discos, quizzes, bingo, piano singalongs, etc. I absolutely love visiting TWCH, engaging with the activities and seeing all the staff, residents and families that have now become familiar faces. It is clear that TWCH is more than just a care home, it is also a community, and everyone is made to feel welcome. The layout of the building, and its facilities, are extremely well thought out, and the garden area is picturesque, relaxing and calming. All indications are that the change of ownership to Fortava is proving to be an extremely positive one.
We're delighted to hear how well your father is settling in at Thorpe Wood, and it means a great deal to us that the positive changes brought in since Fortava's involvement are being seen and...
My late mum was a resident from Dec 2023 until she passed away in July 2025. During her time there she was treated with respect and dignity. Mum was never one to join in much with activities but was always encouraged to do so by the lovely staff. She enjoyed watching others and the staff would sit and chat to her. She made many friends whilst a resident. When mum was in her final days of life the staff looked after her needs and kept her comfortable and out of pain. My sister and I slept in her room and the new owners purchased fold up guest beds for us. Nothing was too much trouble. I would certainly recommend Thorpe Wood to anyone looking for a care home for their loved one. The ownership changed just before mum passed away but the initial signs were that Fortava were going to continue the good work.
Thank you Karen for sharing such a thoughtful and heartfelt review. We're truly touched by your kind words and so grateful that you took the time to reflect on your mum's experience at Thorpe Wood. It's wonderful to hear that she was treated with the respect and dignity she deserved, and that she...
