I always find the staff at Upton Manor Care Home really sweet, kind and very helpful. I am assured Mum is in the best possible hands and well looked after. One lady, in particular, is very good at distracting Mum from me when I want to leave, I just give her the nod.
Reply from Donna Milne-Barron, Regional Customer Relations Lead at Upton Manor Care HomeThank you very much for your lovely review. I know all of the staff will be really pleased to hear your kind words, and it's wonderful to hear. We are very fond of your Mum and our family members too. Best wishes from us all at Upton Manor.

Mum has been a resident for just over a year. The home is a wonderful, friendly place with plenty of activities laid on for the residents to enjoy. The rooms are spacious and light with lovely views over well-kept gardens. Vsutung days are very welcome, which is great as Mum can still have her god visit
her. There are fantastic entertainers who regularly visit to play music, magicians, balloon creations, and a variety of animals that the president can handle and stoke. It's like one big family, and we are so pleased we found this care home for our mum.
Reply from Donna Milne-Barron, Regional Customer Relations Lead at Upton Manor Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write this wonderful review. Your mum is such a fabulous lady, and she is very loved by us all and her friends here at Upton Manor. All of our families and loved ones are so important and we welcome you, and Mum's dog at any time, as part of our family. Our dedicated staff will be really happy to hear your kind comments. Best wishes.

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
After my relative had lived in this care home for almost 10 months, the experience was mostly disappointing. The home itself has nice pleasant facilities but lacks a homely feel. Communication between departments in the home was lacking, the manager was very unhelpful to the point of being unapproachable
and rude. Although some of the care team showed a high level of care and compassion this did not reach the whole team and was noticeable during visits. Minimal activity interactions for those who are nursed in bed. A warm welcome from the care team was not received on many occasions. However, always found the reception team to be welcoming, and friendly.
This did not feel like a home from home when visiting my loved one, and is not somewhere I would recommend to others to place a loved one.

It was a very tough decision to place Mum into care. The decision was not made lightly. It's been good to see Mum settle in and see the efforts being made by the team to get to know her personally. It's good to see Mum enjoying the activities, being given little jobs to enjoy in the garden and to make
friends. My mum is/was sociable and friendly, always kept a clean and tidy home, and kept herself busy, and she loved to entertain. She's very happy.

My sister and I chose this care home to match my mother's demanding needs 3 months ago. The care and dedication from all members of staff from cleaners to management have been amazing and exceeded expectations. Our mother sadly passed 14/11/23 and the care given in the last week of palliative care was
absolutely outstanding. We can not thank you all enough for making our mother's last few months so comfortable and pleasurable (especially with her buzzer!).
Reply from Donna Milne-Barron, Regional Customer Relations Lead at Upton Manor Care HomeWe are all truly very sorry for the loss of your dear mum. Your review of Upton Manor is so heartwarming, and thank you for recognising all the staff. We are fortunate to have such an incredible and hard-working team, who genuinely deliver person-centred care to all of our residents. Everyone sends their best wishes and they smiled when you mentioned the buzzer! Don't forget, you are both welcome at any time, if you ever fancy a coffee please come on in. Thank you again, from all of the staff.

My parents stayed at Upton Manor Care Home for respite care. The staff were caring, empathetic and willing to go the extra mile to make my parents feel welcome and supported. The family was always welcomed there. The food was excellent and I was very impressed with how clean the care home was. My parents
had a couple of medical issues that were dealt with promptly and professionally. Overall I have nothing but praise for Upton Manor.

My daughter and I have noticed a change in our relative since moving from another home to be in Upton Manor. He is really well looked after, his clothes are clean, he is clean, he looks more like he used t now that his beard has gone. He has joined in with several of the activities, especially when
animals have been taken into visit. He is happy. All staff have been excellent, cleaners, carers, nurses and reception are amazing. Well down everyone.
Management? Has been excellent, now waiting for a new person to start. Very sad the last manager has left.

We are pleased that your dad is more like his old self. The staff are very fond of him. We were sad too, to see her go, however, rest assured we have a new home manager in place.
Best wishes.

My father resided at Upton Manor last year and decided to move home to see if he could cope. A big step to move home but, long story short, 8 days later he moved back into Upton Manor. The staff are truly wonderful and friendly and the rooms are spacious and clean and I know that Dad is safer and much
happier in the care home and is looked after very well. Upton Manor offers lots of activities for the residents and I know the few days a week I don't visit Dad, he is fully entertained!

My sister-in-law came to Upton Manor Care Home for respite care following a hospital stay. The home has done far more in the short time than anywhere else she has been. The level of care was the best I have known in any home and I have visited quite a few over the years. This has been the happiest I
have seen her in years. I feel that my sister-in-law has been able to be herself and be appreciated for who she is.
I feel that the home has opened her eyes to what a care home can be like.
The facilities at the home were a very high standard and I was very happy with the ambiance of the home.
It was a very positive experience for me as a visitor and I was very impressed with what is on offer.
I have done twenty-seven cruises and the room my sister-in-law had was of a very high standard.
The food is fantastic. There are lots of opportunities to continue with your hobbies and the staff encourage the residents to open up and continue with their lives and to begin to live again.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.758)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.758) out of 10 for Upton Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.758 for Upton Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (250 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 293 Ratings = 4.758
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Upton Manor Care Home is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
