Overall Experience

My father resided at Upton Manor last year and decided to move home to see if he could cope. A big step to move home but, long story short, 8 days later he moved back into Upton Manor. The staff are truly wonderful and friendly and the rooms are spacious and clean and I know that Dad is safer and much happier in the care home and is looked after very well. Upton Manor offers lots of activities for the residents and I know the few days a week I don't visit Dad, he is fully entertained!

I love the friendly people that work there, they are so caring and kind to all the guests that live there, they go out of their way to make sure that everything is done to help them. They are also there for the families. The activities they do and support for the ones that can't is amazing. I always come out happy knowing that my loved one is looked after with love from the staff.

Review from Brenda B (Sister-in-law of Resident) published on 22 February 2023 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My sister-in-law came to Upton Manor Care Home for respite care following a hospital stay. The home has done far more in the short time than anywhere else she has been. The level of care was the best I have known in any home and I have visited quite a few over the years. This has been the happiest I have seen her in years. I feel that my sister-in-law has been able to be herself and be appreciated for who she is.
I feel that the home has opened her eyes to what a care home can be like.
The facilities at the home were a very high standard and I was very happy with the ambiance of the home.
It was a very positive experience for me as a visitor and I was very impressed with what is on offer.
I have done twenty-seven cruises and the room my sister-in-law had was of a very high standard.

The food is fantastic. There are lots of opportunities to continue with your hobbies and the staff encourage the residents to open up and continue with their lives and to begin to live again.

I have never visited this care home before until my Auntie was placed here a few weeks ago. It is so clean and the staff are so cheery, it wasn’t what I was expecting. It seems to be well run and they are really looking after my Auntie.

I would advise caution if your parent is staying in this care home. The staff (nursing and general assistants were great as were the receptionists) very pleasant. However, the management, general manager are the worst I have ever experienced. Following Mum's health deterioration I was not informed of her progress. I had lasting power of attorney as did my sister who also had medical power of attorney. We both are executors of my mother's will, as I work overseas in Iraq, away for several months at a time, visiting Mum was a highlight. I informed the care home of contact when my mother entered end of life I came back to the UK, gave specific instructions. However, the manager decided not to inform me or our family of changes to Mum's condition (they were aware there is a family dispute so no information between my sister and I). To obtain information, we had to go through our solicitors. My solicitors have our POA on file, bad experience when your loved one is in the dying process.

Until my sister was taken into your care I had no experience in care homes. Of course, I had seen the news and learned a little about the fantastic job care homes and carers had done during the height Covid epidemic. My wife and I were privileged to be with her for the last two days of her life at Upton Manor. The first impression entering the reception area was the calmness and warmth of the welcome. We felt that she was in a caring safe environment. We met staff and felt each and every one of them was genuinely concerned about ensuring that she was comfortable and peaceful in her last

hours. I understand how difficult this must be but it was done with such skill and empathy that it was similar to being part of a large family. This takes a lot of professional skill and human kindness such that it is not generally appreciated by the public. I would like to thank you for the excellent standards of care that you are achieving and how reassured we were by witnessing it .

I can only say from my own experience, I have found the staff to be most helpful, even in the difficult time of lockdown. Always kept me informed of any problems with my relative and encouraged me to ring to ask for updates on my relative. Easily, this is by far the best home in the area, having listened to other people's stories.

Mum came into Upton Manor after having carers coming into her home for a year after losing her husband. It took a year for Mum to decide to come into a home after falls and loneliness. She has settled very well, she is no longer lonely and enjoys being with people all the time. The facilities are fabulous, the care is top class and Mum is happy. We no longer have to worry about Mum being alone in her house.

My Aunt was admitted to Upton Manor as part of system to get people out of hospital, whilst she waited for care in the community to be put in place. The care she received, under difficult circumstances, was excellent, if only for a short period of time.

My mum has lived at Upton Manor since January 2020 until she passed away in July 2021. We have been very happy with the care she has received and the genuine affection shown to her, especially during Covid when we were not able to touch her ourselves. The food always looked good, and the premises were clean. Laundry services were always excellent.

We moved Dad to Upton Manor Care Home to be nearer to us. We researched a few care homes locally but decided on Upton Manor because they have a different approach to care, as they involve the residents as much as possible in their own care. The staff are all very friendly and approachable and take time to get to know Dad.

My daughter has lived here for five years in September. Any problems are dealt with immediately. All staff are friendly, polite and helpful. Never had any reason to feel uncomfortable about leaving my daughter in their capable hands. All aspects are her health and well-being are given as and when. Doctors visits and results of any kind are given to me by phone or face to face as soon as.

I was very apprehensive when my husband needed to go into a care home but my worries were unfounded when he came into the care home. I couldn't have asked for better given the circumstances. He is cared for very well. The staff are excellent, they are friendly and helpful, which makes for a very nice atmosphere. Given all of this couldn't wish for anything better for my husband which makes me happy. Thank you.

My husband has been in the home nearly a year now. He seems quite settled. The care is excellent. The home is very family orientated, always met with smiles and nothing is too much trouble. The welfare of the residents is very important to everyone. The menus are varied and very well served. The organiser for entertainment is very good and does her utmost to include as many residents to join in who are able. Cleanliness is a good factor and I would recommend the home.

The security in the care home is first class. Duties carried out by staff are excellent (regimentally logged and never missed).

You only have to witness the care shown to each individual at meal times to realise that staff are aware of the persons needs and how they like to eat or be fed and at what pace.
