ABOUT THE DAY CARE HUBS
Lilian Faithfull Care provides flexible, individually tailored adult day care for people in Gloucestershire, with an expertise in caring for those living with dementia and other related conditions. The staff are passionate about wanting to improve the quality of life for day guests, promoting independence and giving respite and support to families and carers. Lilian Faithfull Care has two community hubs for people living in Gloucestershire - Secret Garden Hub in Cheltenham and also Uplands Hub in Stroud.

There is a wide range of activities and the nutritious food freshly prepared by the chefs is always a highlight. The staff team has a wealth of experience in elderly care and has a particular interest and expertise in caring for those living with dementia. They offer ‘person-centred care’ building the care and support around the needs of each guest. They spend time learning about each guest when they first arrive, their interests, hobbies and favoured routines and this knowledge is constantly added to as the relationship develops.

ABOUT SECRET GARDEN HUB
Secret Garden Day Care is located in Cheltenham in the gardens within Faithfull House care home in Suffolk Square. It offers guests a tranquil, modern, purpose-built hub surrounded by peaceful gardens. The hub is ‘family-sized’ which means that they have a calm and tranquil atmosphere and guests quickly recognise faces and feel familiar in the environment. Lillian Faithfull's commitment to offer flexible care means people can visit from an hour to a whole day. Open weekly Monday to Friday. They have an 'open-door' approach for all families to talk through any issues and a Memory Awareness Support Team (MAST) which offers free support and advice sessions.

A flexible fees structure means that guests can visit from an hour to a whole day and individual packages can be arranged. As a charity they are able to offer very competitive rates. A day session rate is charged for a visit which is 3 hours or over. For shorter visits they charge an hourly rate. For up to date charges please contact the Hub.

Very helpful and friendly activities and programme not as interesting and creative as they used to be. Probably due to staff retirement. Meals are much appreciate but not as good as they were 12 months ago. I imagine this is due to reduced budget.

Secret Garden is a warm safe place marked by a dedicated team who understand and dealt with all sorts of my needs and problems which can occur manning an establishment like this. The prime object is to make sure every person enjoys it is safe and want to come again.

I always find staff very friendly and helpful. My husband visits the day centre. He is more than cared for. He always enjoys the activities and this company and the love care and support he is given from the staff. The management runs a well organised centre and ensure staff users and all visitors are

A huge thank you to the manager and his team for exceptional care to my Mum who has Dementia. You have been kindness itself and we're all so very grateful. Mum has loved the friendships made with both peers and staff. Two visits a week, helped establish a routine and generate conversation to tell us
all at the end of the day. Mum particularly enjoyed the outings, to which we were made welcome and the visiting performers to the group.
The manager also made visiting professionals welcome to view Mum in her own environment, he frequently re-organised transport for Mum when we needed to change days to cater for last minute appointments. Thank you to all of you. You really do make a difference and should be applauded for doing so.

Mum loves coming to the Secret Garden Hub twice weekly. She always sounds so much brighter after her visits. The manager and the team work so hard to provide an incredibly varied array of activities for the residents. Mum loves socialising with the other residents, it's clear from her tales, that they
have lots of laughs!
We don't know where we'd be without the Hub. Mum's visits get her out of the house and mixing with others and I always feel I can contact the manager or any of the other employees to chat about her stay.

Dad really looks forward to his twice-weekly visit to Secret Garden. He has made some really close friendships and enjoys gentle mental and physical activities put on, especially the singalongs with visiting singers. Dad is vegetarian and the options aren't that good.

I am more than happy with the care my husband receives at Secret Garden. The manager communicates well and replies promptly to my requests. The staff are kind and compassionate. My husband finds there's too many cakes/puddings (sweet stuff), would like to be offered an apple for example occasionally.
I
do have a problem with accounts though since January 2024, I would receive an overdue notice even though my husband only did half a day (4 hours). I have written several times to no avail.

My husband enjoys going to the Secret Garden, he has increased from one to two days recently and he likes it so much. The staff are very helpful and caring. He enjoys the activities, particularly singing, quizzes and games. He has vascular dementia and this can make things difficult for him but the
staff are always very considerate and understanding.

The Secret Garden Day Care has been a valuable place to discover. My Mum was very reluctant to give it a try but after the first visit, it was obvious that the experience had made a great impact on her. The staff are lovely, kind people and the food, drinks and activities have made her day much more

I cannot recommend the staff at Secret Garden more highly. They go far beyond normal expectations. They have provided great support and advise with all the procedures and paperwork. My dad has dementia and I have seen a dramatic improvement in him since he has been visiting the Secret Garden. I feel
so reassured that the Secret Garden will look after my dad in a caring and thoughtful way.

My mother has mixed dementia and poor mobility. The team at the Secret Garden have dramatically improved her quality of life with their amazingly inventive range of activities, compassionsjip and lovely food. The facilities are cheerful and comfortable, well-appointed, with interest everywhere. The
well-designed layout maximises the good weather yet is bright and cosy when dull.
As Mum's primary carer, I must add that her attendance at the Secret Garden enables me to continue working part-time, which is essential for me.

I can't praise the manager and the team at the Secret Garden Hub highly enough.
My dad has been going for many months now. He has dementia and needed some stimulation and motivation in his day. He's a quiet chap and although has a wicked sense of humour, he probably wouldn't choose to put himself
in a sociable situation. The Hub has done wonders for him though. He absolutely loves it; comes home raving about it and looks forward to going again. They really get to know the individual and try to put them with like-minded people initially. They are very proactive and do so much with them. It's really great to see. The team are cheerful and attentive. Our whole family agree that we are so happy to have found it. I highly recommend the Hub, keep up the great work!

The Secret Garden is an amazing place! My husband attends twice a week, and it has been a lifeline for us both. It has given him an interest and allowed me to have some "me time". It has been stimulating for him, and he gets to chat with other clients with similar interests and backgrounds. All the

I am so glad that Secret Garden was recommended to us. My husband has young-onset Alzheimer's Disease and loves going there. The staff are so friendly and caring, and the activities are varied and well planned. They have also nurtured my husband's own passions, encouraging him to sing for the group,
which has boosted his self-esteem; he also has lots of fun there. The environment is modern, bright, warm and comfortable, with a lovely garden area. I am also supported by the staff. Knowing that my husband is happy there allows me to relax and enjoy some much-needed respite.

Mark

Mark Norris

Job Title: Day Care Manager

Mark became manager of the Secret Garden Hub in September 2017 after joining the team six months earlier.


Mark had a varied career before settling in the care sector. He has worked in local insurance, aviation and computer support firms before reassessing and retraining. The motivation to change was influenced by his Granny; she got dementia and her care was shockingly bad. When Mark visited her he found he was not only entertaining her but also the other residents. Her influence still stays with Mark particularly when planning activities at the Hub and always ensuring nothing is patronising; “Our guests are adults and we treat them as such”.


Mark has completed his Level 5 in Health and Social Care, in addition to CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and a Dementia Link Leader.


What does Mark particularly value about working at the Hub? “You are always learning. I love history and I am always learning about the past by people who have lived through it.” “I’m proud that we have made the Hub a success, it’s brilliant to be able to help so many people and their families; when people come to the Secret Garden their families become part of the Hub too.”


Outside of work Mark spends his time with his family, their dog and renovating their house!
