Residents at Maun View Care Home part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together to celebrate VE Day with a heartwarming garden party on 8 May 2026.

The special event featured a live performance from singer Carman, who entertained residents, relatives and staff with a selection of beloved 1940s classics, including Vera Lynn favourites such as We’ll Meet Again and The White Cliffs of Dover. Residents sang along in the sunshine while enjoying themed VE Day cupcakes in the home’s gardens.

The celebration was especially meaningful for many residents who lived through the Second World War, including several who served in the armed forces. The afternoon sparked fond memories and created an uplifting atmosphere throughout the home.

Sandra, Lifestyle Coordinator at Maun View Care Home, said:

“It has been a special day for our residents and they have really enjoyed it. It brought back memories to all of our residents, especially those who were in the armed forces. The residents loved singing the songs.”

Singer Carman added:

“It was such a lovely afternoon. The sun came out and I received a great reception from the residents, who all sang along.”

One of the standout moments of the day came when a 99-year-old resident joined in with the singing and shared how the music brought back many happy memories.

The VE Day celebration is an annual tradition at Maun View Care Home and forms part of the home’s ongoing commitment to creating meaningful experiences that encourage connection, reminiscence and wellbeing for residents.
