The overall service is of an excellent standard. I believe my father is well cared for and the staff always have his best interests are considered.
The entertainment is really good and certainly enjoyed by my father.
My only negative comment would be around communication between staff and relatives,
which could be more consistent.
Reply from Mel Holly, Registered Manager at Admiral Jellicoe HouseThank you for your lovely feedback. We're delighted to hear your father feels well cared for and enjoys the entertainment. We appreciate your comment about communication and will work on ensuring this is more consistent for families.

I am very pleased with expectations, but wasn't sure how to mark food as sometimes it's good and sometimes not.
Reply from Mel Holly, Registered Manager at Admiral Jellicoe HouseThank you for your feedback. We are consistently monitoring the quality of food and dining experience to ensure we are meeting expectations.

From the moment our father moved into Admiral Jellicoe House on his 90th birthday in 2025 we knew we'd made the best decision for him. From the guided tour we had with Gemma prior to dad moving in to our ongoing contact and experience with the team on Ganges floor we cannot fault a thing. Dad is no
longer mobile so extra effort is required on the behalf of staff to ensure his needs are met. Medical intervention, when needed, is prompt and effective, his room is spotlessly clean (thank you Ken!) and the programme of activities is comprehensive and always enjoyed by dad. We are so pleased that he now's considers AJH his home.
Reply from Mel Holly, Registered Manager at Admiral Jellicoe HouseThank you so much for the wonderful comments and feedback. We are so pleased to hear this has been a positive experience.

Our father was a resident at JH from August 2025 until Dec 2025. Our father sadly passed away just before Christmas and we only wish he had become a resident sooner. As soon as we could see that dad was being looked after with care and respect our anxieties ebbed away. Our father had lewy body dementia
and as his daughters, the conflicting emotions you carry can be very overwhelming. We knew we had no choice but to put him in care, Jellicoe being our dad's choice as he was ex-navy. Though the visits were sometimes hard as dad could become agitated, the incredible carers would put our minds at ease. We could see first hand how well they looked after the residents on the Ganges floor. We always felt so humbled by the staff. The end of life care that dad received was exemplary. A very distressing time for us, but met with total respect and compassion. again, we were blown away by the staff who felt almost like family. We cannot recommend it enough.
Reply from Mel Holly, Registered Manager at Admiral Jellicoe HouseThank you so much for the wonderful compliments about your Fathers care at Admiral Jellicoe House. It was a great honour to care for your dear Father.

A welcome and warmth when you arrive makes an impression then the members of staff on so many levels go the extra mile to support the residents and visitors alike. A missing sock an accident a query all dealt with sincerely .Leaving a love one is tough but the care and opportunities given to the residents
goes way beyond any expectations. I would definitely be a resident myself .
Well done and many thanks for the love and care x

My Aunt has been very happy at Pembroke and loved staying there. Unfortunately recently she mental health has declined, but the staff understand her and try their best to keep her safe and feel loved. It hasn't been easy for anyone watching this decline but she has been treated the same with all staff
treating her with the same compassion and care she has always got. We as a family couldn't wish better surroundings and care and thank all the staff for that.

Mum has dementia and was welcomed to Pembroke house in November 25. She had spent time in a previous care home but we opted for Pembroke due to it's overall prefered atmosphere. They provide good sized rooms with ensuite toilet and washing facilities, the home is clean and does not have that usual care
home aroma. The staff are very friendly and caring, they provide loads of activities which mum thoroughly enjoys. The home is warm and welcoming to relatives and residents alike. Mum loves it there and we are very pleased for her to be there.
There were a couple of initial issues with mum losing her teeth, glasses and hearing aid, but now that staff are aware of her tendency to hide things we believe all has been done to prevent this in the future. I do believe communication between the staff during change over could be improved and automatic changing doctors was an issue for us as we would have preferred for mum to stay with her present doctor this is ongoing. But, in all it's lovely.

My husband has been a resident at Pembroke house for almost a year now and my family and I are pleased that we made the decision for him receive residential care there.
All the staff are kind and compassionate and they have quickly got to know how to respond to his individual needs and how to deal
with his changing moods and behaviour.
Any concerns are usually dealt with quickly.

The carers are amazing, friendly, made everyone welcome and help in any way. Building beautiful and clean, food good. Dad moved in July 2024 straight from home. May 2025 new manager who we had not met, OVER THE PHONE said they wanted my dad to leave as they could no longer meet his care needs. She said
that the staff were not trained in specialist dementia care which dad needed. We were told he had violent outbursts and fighting and kicking people, we had never been notified of any of these issues, by the manager old or new and sounded nothing like my dad. Only issue we'd been told was dad having several falls, none witnessed by staff- sent to hospital twice with no coat or shoes in Nov. We explained to the manager would be upsetting for him to move after 12mths as it was all he knew, her reply "he will be fine" Moved dad in July and he dies in August age 72 Not blaming AJ but my dad was so confused and didn't understand what happened. Sadly management let this home down massively.
Reply from Mel Holly, Home Manager at Admiral Jellicoe HouseWe extend our sincere condolences to you and your family for your loss and thank you for your kind words about Admiral Jellicoe House and our carers. We are sorry your recent experience did not fully meet expectations. The new Manager and team provided ongoing support once it became clear your father's needs required specialist dementia care. During this time, we focused on his comfort and wellbeing and aimed to support you through a very difficult period, without any pressure to make decisions. We recognise there were gaps in communication with your family and are committed to learning from this to strengthen how we share information and address concerns promptly. Thank you for your feedback-it helps us improve our support for residents and their families.

My mum was a resident at Admiral Jellicoe House for nearly 2 years. I can honestly say that she couldn't have been in a better place. The facilities can't be faulted and there is plenty of space to wander both inside and in the garden. What makes Admiral Jellicoe House special though is the standard
of care given. The staff, without exception, are wonderful. They know the residents so very well and are genuinely caring and compassionate. They treat them all as if they are one of their own family and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The activities are carried out with lots of laughter and fun and mum was frequently taken out to play tennis, visits to the allotment and various other events. I would have no hesitation in recommending Admiral Jellicoe House to anyone.

Having been a resident with you for ten years my aunt sadly didn't quite make her hundredth birthday. What a fantastic ten years she enjoyed with you. Following a stroke at the age of 89 she came to you quite a frail old lady and your love and encouragement gave her a new lease of life. She embraced
every activity on offer and enjoyed the freedom from worry which is so often present in the elderly. Consequently we, her family, were free from worrying as she was so well cared for.

My dad is a resident at Pembroke House. He has lived there for nearly 2 years. The care, compassion and kindness shown to my dad is incredible. He is living the best life that he can in surroundings that are warm, welcoming and caring.
What Pembroke House do is extend that compassion and kindness
to family be that husbands or wives of resident or children (albeit old children!).
The home is spotlessly clean. The breakfast, lunch and dinners are perfect for my dad.
Families are included in events (Christmas lunch, Summer Garden Party to name but two) and are actively encouraged to be part of the Pembroke house family.
Reply from Kelly kirtley, Events coordinator at Pembroke HouseThank you. It is always lovely to see the family and friends of our residents enjoying the many social events we are able to offer with their loved ones.

On the whole, the care given is good, but there is always room for improvement. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. The home could be a little more feminine, as at the moment it seems very male-orientated.
Reply from Kelly kirtley, Events coordinator at Pembroke HouseThank you. Any suggestions from family and friends on how we can improve our services are greatly appreciated.

My mother has been a resident for just over a year now, following a period of respite care. Pembroke House's staff have been so good with her, she has improved in her health and is actively engaged in many activities, which she enjoys. It feels as if she is living with a family, not in a care home.
The way she is looked after is of great comfort to us, as before living here, she was becoming somewhat isolated and withdrawn. She has really come out of herself, which is due to the staff and the way they care. The management team keep us informed of any problems which may arise and are very approachable, friendly and helpful. We do not know of any other care homes locally that provide so much for their residents to do and to keep them stimulated. The home is kept spotless and in good repair, unlike some others. Mum also loves helping in the garden, which is attractive and lovely to spend time in when the weather permits.
An excellent care home!
Reply from Kelly kirtley, Events coordinator at Pembroke HouseIt is a pleasure having Mum onboard. We appreciate how helpful she is around the home and how welcoming she is to new residents.

Both my parents are residents at Pembroke House. Their care is so important as they both have very different needs and are therefore very vulnerable.
The staff at Pembroke House provide thorough encouragement support and kindness at all times and all staff are very approachable and positive whenever
queries questions or help is required for us as family members.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you ALL very much for making us feel like Mum and Dad are in a safe, caring, homely environment every day extremely grateful.

My wife and I visited our relation at Admiral Jellicoe House last week. Having visited there and other relatives in other care settings we can honestly say that we were delighted to see the high-quality provision at Admiral Jellicoe House. The staff are very helpful and friendly and it was evident that
their caring role was much more than just a job. For elderly people the fact that the staff had a good command of spoken English is very important too. Very reassuring for us to know that although our relatives are hours away they are in an excellent facility and are very happy.
Reply from Jade Delaney, Home Manager at Admiral Jellicoe HouseThank you for your kind words, I will pass them on to the team.

After a terrible experience at another local care home we have nothing but praise for Pembroke House. Our Dad has dementia and is not easy to care for. It has been an extremely difficult time for the family filled with guilt, emotion and constant worry. However, slowly but surely we have seen Dad become
much calmer and pliable, though he still has his moments! The home is bright, clean and very calming. The staff are amazing; very attentive, patient and caring. They have a very personal touch and seem to have good relationships with all residents. There are lots of activities, the meals are of a high standard and the outside space is beautiful. I would highly recommend Pembroke House.

From the moment I walked through the front door of Pembroke House on the 3rd of May 2019 (just over five years ago now, as you will see) up until the present day (8th of May 2024) I have found a very caring and exceptional staff in every aspect. The carers, nurses, catering staff, domestic staff and
of course, I must mention our very talented activity team, maintenance and gardeners. The gardens are always well cared for in any season of the year and are a delight to behold either from a wander out in the garden or a view from one of the windows. Of course, none of this would be possible without our wonderful home manager and her staff.

My mother spent the last 9 months of her life in Pembroke House. She was fiercely independent and, although it was her decision to become a resident, she didn't ever want to be in a home.
From the day she arrived, initially for rehab and subsequently as a resident, she was made welcome, received fantastic
care and was shown total respect.
I cannot thank every member of staff, from gardener to manager, for making Mum's time at Pembroke so enjoyable.
Thank you from the whole family who were all also made so welcome when visiting.

Admiral Jellicoe House has been a fantastic home for my mother since she arrived last April. She feels safe, well looked after and feels at ‘home’. The staff have been first class treating her with complete respect and dignity. Nothing has been too much trouble to deal with her needs. I cannot fault
the home. They have taken so much worry away from my mother and we are so grateful.
