Review of The Normanhurst Nursing Home from Samantha W (Daughter of Resident) published on 4 August 2026 Submitted via Postal Card

Management very helpful. Mom has only been here two weeks so we are just settling in and getting to know her new routine.

It would be helpful if all staff wore name badges.

Reply from Kathleen Renner, Duty Manager at The Normanhurst Nursing Home

Thank you for your kind review. Feedback is always helpful, we will remind staff about name badges.

I have always felt welcome by a staff when I visited my wife at the nursing home. Reports from my wife who was receiving long term care suggest that nearly all the carers/nurses have a genuine caring attitude because their voices and facial expressions show it.

Happy that mum was in a safe place with happy and attentive staff who took an interest in mum, no matter how took an interest in mum, no matter how busy they were. Mum didn't partake of the activities, she was happy in her room with staff popping in to chat, she never felt lonely. A big thank you to all at Normanhurst for looking after mum.

Compared with a lot of hotels I've stayed in overseas. Rank very highly. 4 floor each staff 2 lifts, lots of good stairs, all carpeted! Sea about 50 years at the front. France not quite in view. I'd recommend it for a very pleasant week break.

My wife was admitted to The Normanhursy on 1/1/26 after two weeks alternating between the local hospital and home care. She has always been very active and we had no idea what was going on with her health. On a family we watched her condition rapidly deteriorate and she died on 2/2/26. It transpired that she had an oesophageal cancerism. The care she received at The Normanhurst was excellent. The care I received was excellent. I could visit anytime and always offered cups of tea. The room was lovely, the care was great but the NHS was a shambles.

Although my mum has now passed away, I take great comfort in knowing she was surrounded by such dedicated and caring people. From the very begginning, Normanhurst treated my mum with dignity, warmth and genuine affection. The patience, respect and tenderness shown to mum, especially in her final days, meant more to us than words can say, safe, comfortable and treated with love.

My mum has been in The Normanhurst about six months now. She can't walk, but the staff hoist her into the wheelchair for a lounge vist, the staff are brilliant. The home is lovely and clean, it does not smell. Staff offer me tea or coffee. The lounge is lovely. I always go and say good morning to the old girls, have a little chat. Overall the home is in a good location.

Review of The Normanhurst Nursing Home from Roberta R (Sister of Resident) published on 17 February 2026 Submitted via Postal Card

I can only give great praise to the managment + staff. My sister experienced a horrendous time in hospital. She had no compassion, dignity etc. Since arriving at The Normanhurst she has received so much kindness and care. I can only give the highest praise and thank the managements + staff for all the care they have given her. They have given her back her dignity. I see a smile on her face each day when I visit instead of fear and sadness. She is well looked after.

I found the home to be very short staffed especially at weekends. Buzzers seem to be going for a long time. Had to actually phone the carehome on one occassion, although I was actually there, because I needed to speak to a carer and couldn't find one. Despite walking 2 floors of the building. No midmorning cup of tea, I brought my mum in a takeout tea when I visited. Care home manager quite abrupt to me whenever I spoke to her. Care home was clean and the food always looked nice. Lady cleaner and male matron very friendly and helpful.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear of the issues that you faced. I am sure you can appreciate that our care staff are extremely busy and will have the door closed on rooms as they provide personal care to their residents. As a 31 bed home our call bells are activated rather frequently,...

Review of Normanhurst Residential Care Home from Yvonne M (Husband of Resident) published on 22 September 2025 Submitted via Postal Card

I had to look for a residential home for my husband to stay in Bexhill for two weeks in May for respite care. It was a difficult and worrying thing to do for the first time. However, after visiting Normanhurst, for a visit I was welcome warmly and know straight away that its somewhere my husband will be happy to be while I am away. He was treated throughout by all with dignity. We will be using Normanhurst again if I have to go away.

Review of Normanhurst Residential Care Home from L H (Son of Resident) published on 29 May 2025 Submitted via Postal Card

I have been visiting excess of 10 years despite some minor problems. I have found Normanhurst a well run, caring home, staffed by dedicated people providing first class assistance/ support along with an excellent ''cuisine' provided by committed 'chefs' who cater and provide a varied menu. In addition or importance is hygiene and cleanliness which from my experience cannot fault.

(including care staff, housekeeping, reception and support and dinner staff).

Mum needed a respite break and spent two very enjoyable weeks here. The staff were very friendly and helpful and Mum [who is wheelchair bound] had a lovely room overlooking the back garden. Mum is back home now but would not hesitate to go back to the Normanhurst for a permanent home.

Review of The Normanhurst Nursing Home from Carole V (Daughter of Resident) published on 7 January 2025 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

Feel Mum is in a good place with caring staff, it's very clean, food is great, mum says it's lovely. As she has been chair-bound re her disabilities in her flat she now has company. She is never alone at night as she was. Mum tells me everyone is helpful and kind. Overall it's good and know everyone is doing their best. Just one thing to mention lack of music in background, it seems to be missing. Mum has settled well and I thank all staff in helping her feel this way.

Since I have been coming to the home to see my friend, the staff have been very helpful. Always polite. My friend has told me that she is always looked after well by the staff and the food is better than it was when she went in two years ago. Nothing is ever a problem, any time of the night or day.
