Overall Experience

My mother was moved to Halvergate House after a few months in Hospital. She has advanced dementia, and is very frail exacerbated by a hip fracture. The team have been respectful, proactive, and above all very kind in the face of her extremely complex needs, and very much seen the person, and the family, beyond the condition. They have been excellent to communicate with and have kept us involved at every turn.

Overall Experience
We cannot thank the staff enough for the exceptional care they gave to both of our parents during the final stages of their lives. Throughout their time at the home, every member of the team treated them with dignity, kindness, and genuine compassion.
The support extended far beyond our parents themselves. The staff showed incredible empathy towards our whole family, offering comfort, understanding, and reassurance during what was an extremely difficult time. Their kindness made a real difference to us all.
We were especially grateful that they allowed us to bring our dog in to visit, which brought so much joy and comfort to our parents and created precious memories that we will always cherish.

We will never forget the care, respect, and humanity shown by everyone at the home. Our family is deeply grateful, and we would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for compassionate and professional care for their loved ones.

My Dad had young onset Dementia and was only 66 when Halvergate scooped him up from the Hospital, when no one else would. His behaviour was deemed too fesity before his admittance to the Julian. Halvergate saw through that to the person beneath the disease and celebrated Dads quirks.

I have never met a more dedicated team of people. Above and beyond is a phase often used, but it doesnt do them justice. The staff would go to the moon and back for their residents and their families. They are passionate about caring and getting the right support in place when its needed. They fought right alongside us when we needed additional help from external agenices. Dad was treated with such love and care right up until the end at Halvergate and I am eternally grateful to each and every member of staff. Even after losing Dad, the staff check in on us and we have been back to visit. Moving Dad to Halvergate was the best decision we made for his care and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

In general I find Sutherlands satisfactory; there is always a relaxed atmosphere and a general calmness which is good to experience. My only real concern is communication; we are not always informed of important things and only chance upon things by accident, we need to know what is going on.

Overall Experience

Comode being emptied down a blocked toilet for two days. Ripped bed linen, dirty cups, locked doors, no wheel chair, no chair, no bed for her needs, no physio, ant intestation, told lies from day one. All of this is making us all depressed and putting my sisters recovery backwards, not forwards to the end goal of moving to her own place.

I have nothing but great admiration for Sutherlands Care Home (Wymondham). My mother has now been a resident there for a year. The care she receives is excellent. My mother clearly feels content and safe at Sutherlands. She is extremely well cared for. The staff are very caring, empathetic and warm. There are activities provided most days and I am extremely impressed. The Activities Co-ordinator really takes time to cater for the interests of individuals.

My sister was very happy here, it was the first time she had been away from me in 10 years and said she would love to come back again. She loved the food and thought your staff were lovely. The rooms were clean and comfortable. As for myself, everyone put my mind at rest and I want to thank them al for their kindness.

Review of Halvergate House from H C (Daughter of Resident) published on 4 September 2023 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My father (who has dementia) has just spent 4 weeks at Halvergate House having respite care after a fall. Our objective was to help build his confidence again with walking and to provide round-the-clock care while we organised home care.
I was very impressed by the care Dad received from the whole team. There were always ample staff on duty - including kitchen, care, and nursing staff. They took time to get to know Dad, his personal preferences and took our objectives seriously. Inevitably there is a settling-in period and the staff were reassuring about this. It was easy to get updates on how he was doing/what he'd been up to. Having a nursing team is also a real bonus.
They employ an Activities Coordinator who is there 5 days a week. This staff member took time to get to know Dad 121 and also organised small group activities which Dad enjoyed participating in - this made a very positive difference to the quality of Dad's experience at Halvergate House.

A big thank you to all.

I visit my sister as much as I can.
The staff are always polite and attentive and make me feel welcome and involve me in any way they can.
My questions, queries or concerns are always treated with the utmost respect and answered on the spot or as quickly as possible.
My sister has limited mobility but she is always included in any entertainment etc. I am always well-informed with anything that involves my sister.

I feel that at this stage, her needs are being adequately met and I feel happy in the knowledge that she is being cared for.

Overall Experience

We are very glad we found Sutherlands to care for Mum. She has now been at Sutherlands for three months; we were initially impressed by the lovely atmosphere within the home. Our experience during the three months has reinforced our initial impressions. Mum has received outstanding care; we commend all staff, they are kind, happy and patient, nothing seems too much trouble; they seem to really care for the residents. The nursing medical staff are great, very competent, attentive and friendly, always on duty and keeps us updated and well informed. The activities coordinator is marvellous, befriending and including all residents to whatever level they wish. Management has coordinated and inspired a proficient and effective team, including catering, cleaning and maintenance. We are very happy with the care and security at Sutherlands, but more importantly, Mum is happy and settled there. Thank you, Sutherlands; it is reassuring to know Mum is well cared for in such a nice environment.

Each time I visit my mother, she is very happy, clean and tidy. She has a nice large room with a shower etc. The food always looks very nice and smells nice. The actual home has no nasty smell and is very clean and tidy. The staff are very friendly and helpful and seem to really care for the patients. They do various activities at the home, and on occasion,l take them out for coffee, shops, cake etc. I am always made welcome and given coffee, and can pop in anytime, no appointment needed!

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff at Halvergate House. I have nothing but praise and admiration for the whole team, what an amazing job you all do! nothing is ever too much trouble and they helped me to understand my mother's dementia and needs, no one can prepare you for the day your mum doesn't recognise you anymore but with guidance and help from this wonderful team we managed to navigate our way through some very difficult times.

Halvergate became Mum's family, she became calm and happy in her surroundings and had the freedom to find her way through this illness. unfortunately Mum passed away recently, when staff came back into work to say their farewells and see her through the night she was shown so much love and I was very grateful to have been part of it all, So thank you all at Halvergate, for everything!
