  • Care Homes Owned by Amesbury Abbey Group
The Amesbury Abbey Group has dedicated almost half a century to the care of the elderly and has been doing so with remarkable success since the day the first resident moved into Winton House in 1972.

Amesbury Abbey was opened in 1985, followed by Sutton Manor shortly afterwards.

The group was originally founded by Mary Cornelius-Reid AM MBE who realised when she was a Senior RGN at Winchester Hospital, that there was a tremendous need for nursing homes for the elderly that could deliver personalised service and premium quality care in beautiful, peaceful surroundings.

Mary Cornelius-Reid’s legacy continues today by offering a highly professional, caring service to the elderly based on a truly personal approach.

The group has the relevant knowledge, experience and staff to deal with the majority of health conditions and other issues experienced by the elderly, including caring for those with dementia at Winton Care Home; whether that be on a long term, short term, respite or convalescence basis.

The group also provides beautiful, character independent living properties with additional support services at Sutton Manor and Amesbury Abbey where a sense of home and community is created.

Sutton Manor has looked after my mum for over 8 years now. During that time she has been cared for in a professional, friendly and compassionate manner. The staff are excelent and are led and guided by Kamala who is highly committed to her role.

My mother was very ill in December but received excellent care and was nursed back to health by the lovely staff at Amesbury Abbey. They also took the time to communicate my mother's condition to my sisters and me on a daily basis.

Everyone at Sutton Manor shows extraordinary high levels of care for residents. This ranges from the owners to carers, nurses, receptionists, cleaners, chefs and the maintenance team. My father is treated with respect, patience and compassion whatever the circumstances.

My mother moved into Sutton Manor during October last year, having been in another nursing home for approximately 6 months. We moved her, as she was becoming depressed, had little to stimulate her and I felt she had given up. The change in her on moving to Sutton Manor was near instantaneous and she
has a new lease of life. Quite frankly I have my mother back again thanks to Sutton Manor. Mum has made many friends, participates regularly in activities and has been on a number of outings. The staff could not be more caring and ensure that Mum's needs are met in the most dignified manner possible. During the time that my mother has been at Sutton Manor, I have been undergoing chemotherapy and the staff have been supporting Mum wonderfully during this challenging time. They have also all shown a great deal of empathy and kindness to me, for which I am most grateful. I can honestly say that Sutton Manor has completely changed my view of nursing homes. Highly recommended.

My father has been in the care of Amesbury Abbey for nearly four years and I cannot rate highly enough the care, love and attention he receives every day. I live overseas and I never have to worry for a minute knowing he is in the very best possible care. The staff are always so kind and nothing is
ever too much trouble. I can't imagine him happier or in better care anywhere else.

We are so lucky to have found Amesbury Abbey, my mothers physical health, out look, mental health improved ten fold after her move in to her gorgious room at Amesbury Abbey. The carers are attentive, kind, patient, make Mum laugh, nothing is too much trouble. The activities are numerous, including
dinners, concerts, films, exercise, fun and laughter all are tailored towards the different levels and needs of the elderly, the attention to detail in all aspects of the Care home are first rate, I would highly recommend.

I have visited my 99 year old mother once a week throughout the time she has been at Amesbury Abbey and my 3 siblings do likewise. My mother is very content in the lovely surroundings at the Abbey but the one single factor that makes it so special is that the staff are so welcoming to anyone who visits
and always have time to stop, chat and make time for the residents.

My aunt was admitted to the home after a fall at home and a short period in hospital
She was given a large triple aspect room and en-suite bathroom. All at a very competitive price
Every care was taken to accommodate her personal requirements
In the ensuing period she has had to be relocated but
to an equally comfortable room She has insists in multiple items from her home to be brought in all of which have been accepted
There have been some items of interior improvements requested all of which have been quickly seen to
Mirrors, pictures and other wall hangings have been quickly fixed by very accommodating handy men
Staff are always quick to respond to all requests and the family are always informed of any medical issues
The management lay on numerous events through the year for residents and their families all of which are extremely successful and well attended

Such lovely staff and with out exception kindness is shown at all times. Fun events around the year and very relaxed atmosphere creating a home from home. The house and gardens are lovely and walking in the summer is always a joy. The flowers are welcoming in the hall and the latest country life
magazines there for residents to sit and read. Lucky residents

Amesbury Abbey has been the perfect choice for Mum. Her room is beautiful and she loves being surrounded by her own furniture. Her view is of gorgeous parkland and she loves seeing the sheep and cows. Having a view like this is fantastic for her wellbeing.
The staff are unfailingly kind. Knowing she
is in such good hands means I am not anxious about her. Mum loves the food, which is excellent. Amesbury Abbey just has a good feel. Visiting is a pleasure because the surroundings and staff are so lovely.

My Father in Law has been with The Amesbury Abbey Group now for over five years. The Abbey itself is a stunning building and an incredibly beautiful place to live. The care and support from each and every member of the staff is second to none. He is treated with kindness, dignity, warmth and utter respect
covering his needs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. His furniture , pictures, clothes and all of his own belongings surround him in his room. Housekeeping take great care of everything for him. The menu changes every day and there is always a choice of what to have. Breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and supper provide all home cooked delicious items. The kitchen are always happy to fulfil any personal requests, especially on your birthday! When visiting my Father in Law its like entering into one very big family. Everybody is happy, lots of banter, lots of fun and a great atmosphere. The management team are exceptional, my Father in Law leads a very happy life there.

Mum and Dad were made very welcome in mid 2024. It's an inspiring environment and this gives residents and staff a quite unique place to live and work.
Dad had dementia but was supported with care and compassion and slipped away gently in Dec 2025.
I've always felt supported via the management team,
nursing and care staff, which has been a great comfort.

My uncle received excellent care from the staff at Sutton Manor. That, along with the magnificent setting, makes it a special place. All the staff went above and beyond to accommodate my Uncle's needs with respect and genuine warm care. Communication with me was prompt and helpful, managing the balance
between confidentiality and collaboration in his care expertly. Thank you for making his last months as good as they could be.

When I left Sutton Manor a few days ago, after two weeks Respite Care, I did so with genuine regret, and determination to return. I am 91 and have been lucky enough to live and work in many countries. During this time I have witnessed several levels of 'care' and can honestly say that none compared
to Sutton Manor. Care is a very personal subject, with widely varying criteria, but only Sutton Manor stands out as meriting 100% on all of them. The keynotes are grace, elegance and tranquility. The grounds, ambiance, furnishings and comfort are superb and impeccably maintained. The quality of professional care is faultless and delivered by every department with a degree of personal charm rarely found today. The level of cuisine is comparable to fine dining. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff at all levels, who are obviously driven by teamwork and care for their charges. Overall Sutton Manor is a rare gem and all the staff, across the board, can be proud of the work that they do.

I had a wonderful two weeks of Respite care. All the staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I had a very comfortable room and the food was all delicious and home cooked. All the residents seemed to be happy and were treated like family. There were a great many activities during the week
especially things such as Scrabble and card games for the memory and plenty of films etc. Would thoroughly recommend and such beautiful surroundings.

My experience of Sutton Manor was of the highest quality, starting from the day he was admitted in April. Being admitted to two hospitals previously. He was a very sick man on arrival but after some excellent care and good food he flourished. From the manager downwards (that is not meant to be demeaning
to the rest of the staff). The staff were kind, efficient and from my point of view delightful to deal with. He was given a lovely room, that was completely redecorated before he moved in, on the ground floor, with a small conservatory with direct access to the lovely grounds. He had as many of his own furnishings that he wanted, including a great many pictures, these were put up most expertly by the caretaker.

My father has been a resident at Amesbury Abbey for nearly two years. I live overseas in Australia and although it is so very far away, the staff, all the staff couldn't be more amazing at keeping me abreast of my father's health and wellbeing. He is so very happy there and so amazingly cared for. I
just can't fault any part of his care. He has a wonderful rapport with everyone and just couldn't ask for more. When we stay over and visit we are so well accommodated and helped at every turn. The accommodation, food and everything is just 5-star!

My parents moved into one of the independent living thatched cottages in 2019. I live in the U.S. but visit them annually for several weeks. Suffice it to say, I already have my cottage picked out! This place is fabulous. Everyone who works there has been kind, responsive, helpful, interested and interesting
and pleasant. The 4-course lunches served in the Manor House are superb. My mother has cooked every meal for 65+ years and she's in heaven now. The grounds are gorgeous and well-maintained. Perfect for a walk or stroll. The town is tiny but has a small shop, pub and hair salon. Sutton Manor has a driver who will take residents to the grocery store, the train station (1/4 mile away) or on other short errands. I can't say enough about the employees. They've all been so kind to my parents and my parents truly enjoy talking with them and getting to know them. So many activities and celebrations on special days. I'm so happy they are there! And I get to visit!
