Overall Experience
My father has been well looked after since moving into Stobars Hall at the end of April 2026. The staff have been caring and attentive, and very welcoming to family members when visiting.
The management staff have been very good in assisting with liaison regarding medical practitioners and appointments.

Overall Experience
From our initial enquiry into availibity for my mother-in-law we were treated with compassion, friendly staff who talked us through 'what would happen next'. The staff are very professional and friendly giving my mother-in-law the care she needs.
There is nothing too much trouble and are always updating us on my mother-in-law's health and health needs/

Overall Experience
Stobars Hall is a lovely building in a beautiful setting providing a great welcome to all. It is very comfortable and feels very safe. There are lots of activities for the residents to engage with creating a happy atmosphere throughout. The staff are very friendly, caring and attentive. Lots of choice on the menu with a variety of home cooked food. Overall it is a wonderful home and I am happy in the knowledge my mum is safe and receiving great care there.

Overall Experience
My brother and I urgently needed to find a care home for our mum, and we visited The Gatehouse for a tour and a chat with the manager, Brian. From the moment we walked in, we felt a warm, reassuring atmosphere - from the team to the environment itself. Placing a loved one into care was a new experience for both of us, and understandably emotional and stressful. But Brian and his team were fantastic. He visited our mum in hospital to carry out a care assessment, offered valuable advice and guidance on the next steps, and the care team helped her settle into her room - all within just a few days.
The staff are friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Most importantly, our mum is settling in well. It's been an incredibly positive start, and we cannot thank The Gatehouse team enough.
↩Reply from Brian Mander, Manager at The Gatehouse
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this thoughtful review. We understand how emotional and overwhelming it can feel when needing to make care arrangements for a loved one, and we are truly grateful that you placed your trust in The Gatehouse during such an important moment for your family. Your mum has settled in brilliantly and is a wonderful addition to our family.

This was the first time my husband had gone into respite and it wasent an easy decision knowing how difficult it would be leaving him. I cannot thank everyone enough for the way you made things so much easier for the two of us the kindness consideration professional way you dealt with everything from the offset going over and above was exceptional. My husband enjoyed his time with everyone he loved the beautiful view from his room and I had peace of mind knowing he was being so well cared for
We both thank you all very much.

Overall Experience
My 95year old father had lived with our family, for 2 years. Following a hospital stay, I felt we couldn't offer him the 24 hour care he needed, following his illness. I was very worried about Dad going into a respite home, as we had a very poor experience at a home, when my mother got dementia. However I could not be more delighted with the service that Stobars Hall has given. The Manager and assistant manager put us at ease from the moment we arrived. Dad's room is beautiful with lovely views, the staff, without exception have been friendly, and respectful to Dad and seem to know him well. Due to Dad's poor memory, he was reluctant to mix with anyone outside the immediate family, while he lived with us. The staff were consistent, encouraging and after the first 24 hours, Dad made the choice to eat his meals in the dining room.
The experience has been so positive for Dad and myself, that we have made the decision that he will remain there, past his respite period.
↩Reply from George Barr, Manager at Stobars Hall
Thank you so much for sharing your heartfelt experience. We're truly honoured that you chose Stobars Hall to care for your father, especially after what must have been a difficult decision following your previous experience elsewhere. It's wonderful to hear that you and your father felt welcomed...

Review of Stobars Hall from Judith C (Sister of Resident) published on 6 October 2025 Submitted via Website•
Overall Experience
The key word about Stobars Care Home is CARE.
Every single member of staff understands that this is the the focus of their role. My sister could not have received better care during the last ten months of her life whilst she was a resident at Stobars.
The care that went into the organisation of her 100th birthday party was amazing. The care that went into organising her room change was admirable. The day to day care of her physical, social and emotional needs was at a constant high level. The care that was offered to her and myself at the end of her life was sensitive and touching.
A few minor problems about missing clothes and hearing aids were dealt with promptly and efficiently.
↩Reply from George Barr, Manager at Stobars Hall
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words. It means a great deal to our whole team to know that our care and support made such a positive difference to your sister and to you during her time with us. We feel privileged to have shared in her journey, especially celebrating her 100th...

Overall Experience
After spending six months in hospital I came here to recuperate.Having now been here ten months and heading home soon I thought it was the right time to comment on my experience here. The first thing and the most important thing is the carers who understand that their roll is to CARE which they do to a high standard and much better than the carers in hospital .I have had a lovely room with a lovely view . As a wheelchair user there is plenty of accessible areas outside which has greatly helped my recuperation .Closing comment about an earlier review which the resident's family criticised the management, all I can say is that in my experience here ,I don't recognise what they are saying and would recommend the home to family and friends.
↩Reply from George Barr, Manager at Stobars Hall
Thank you for your kind words. Overall Experience
It would be useful if when going in residents were asked to attach name tags to clothing; my wife is missing some of hers and has acquired others (very good ones!) not originally belonging to her. Some items now have a label. There are difficulties with missing sticks and specs. Overall very pleased, as is the family that, during her first year, she has been happy living at the home.

Stobars Hall has proven itself to be as good as everyone says. The place is fabulous, the grounds are great, the views are second to none. Overall Experience
In my opinion the management are much better on PR than on actual delivery. The induction went well and a lot was promised in the way of activities and baths etc but little was delivered. Admittedly my mother is a difficult character and spent much of her time in her room. She is much more integrated and takes part in activities and even outings in only a few weeks of being in her new home. I feel that she would have received better care if she had had dementia or Alzheimer's because those residents don't complain.
Overall I feel let down and disappointed and wouldn't recommend Stobars Hall for this type of resident.

My husband was with you for only 6 weeks. However, within that period you gave him all the care he required when I was no longer able to do at home.
I had a great sense he was at home and you all made a difficult time easier to bear.

This is a very good nursing home. My mother has been a resident here for two years, and she has improved in her well-being and enjoyment of life. She has a social interaction with fellow residents that hugely benefits her.
I have no negative experiences at all over all this time.

From a recent bereavement necessitating residential care for my elderly dad, coupled with an in-country move from south to north, my dad has settled in very well with the support of the kind and caring staff. The Gatehouse team are very supportive and welcoming and nothing seems too much trouble.
The recently appointed new manager appears to have reinvigorated the team, keep up the good work.

Overall Experience
Very impressed with all aspects of this residential home. Well run, very organised, friendly and compassionate and always welcoming. They made the transition from home to care home very easy. The home manager was so kind and helpful and every time I ring to talk to him or a member of the staff they are always so nice. Big thanks to one staff member in particular for keeping me right with all the payments and paperwork. Mum has a lovely room with a great view, she looked so well when we saw her, her hair was beautifully done. Great to see all the events on social media. Thank you very much.

My mother has been a resident of The Gatehouse for 15 months. Her care has been excellent, all the care team are very kind and professional. Previously, good leadership has been lacking but this has vastly improved since the appointment of the new manager. he is engaged with all he meets and keen to improve, there is a renewed sense of team spirit which is reflected in the residents who are now enjoying more activities and engagement. Please keep up the good work, an excellent team.

Overall Experience
My nan (recently deceased) had a very happy time residing at The Gatehouse. Every time I and other family visited we found a caring, warm environment and atmosphere in the home. Staff, although often changing due to the sector were always welcoming and felt like friendly, whilst clearly showing respect and care for each resident's dignity. The recent new management has definitely added a layer of confidence and reassurance to staffing (care staff) and the overall sense of The Gatehouse. Finally, I could not fault the care given to my nan in her last few weeks.
