My dad is in the home he has been for a year we have had some teething issues and some complaints but feel once voiced they have been sorted to the best of their ability. I do think my dad's room can look dirty and I know multiple people have voiced this. The staff are what make this place amazing they
couldn't do enough for my dad and for us when we are here.
Reply from Gillain Burnham, Director of Care Services at Fort Horsted Nursing HomeThank you so much for writing your review and I am sorry to read that you feel that your Dad's room can appear dirty. I will certainly look into this issue without delay as this is not the standard that we pride ourselves on. I am glad the staffing team make the overall experience good for you and your Dad.

I cannot fault Fort Horsted nursing home for the care they give . It is definitely 5 star . They treat the residents with so much kindness and care. It's very clean and well looked after. The food is superb.
Reply from Gillain Burnham, Director of Care Services at Fort Horsted Nursing HomeThank you so much for taking the time to leave such a positive review. We know our staff work very hard and are trained to the highest standard but when this is recognised by friends and family of residents it really boosts moral and reiterates what a difference they make every single day. In times where social care is not always given the highest accolades or good press this is really and truly appreciated.

Thank you so much

Kindest Regards

Given my loved one's immobility everything seems to be going pretty well for him. It would be nice for him to get out of the room more often but I understand the difficulties. He needs more physio care to get him up and about.

My mother was a resident at fort horsted for 20 months, we transferred her to Fort Horsted from a care home once she required nursing care. As a nurse my criteria for looking at a home for my mother was how I felt when I first visited the home to look round, whether they listened to me and what I feel
my mothers needs were and, whether the home smelt clean. The staff listened to what I thought my mother required and throughout her stay I was always welcome to talk to the staff at anytime.
When visiting mum I always saw good interaction from staff to my mum, not always easy when the client has severe dementia. Various staff would comment at separate times that mum felt like a mother and that was the respect I saw my mum afforded by the staff.
I am so happy that my mum was content and happy with her stay in Fort Horsted to the end of her days.

My father came into Temple Ewell nursing home from the hospital. During the four weeks that he had spent there, he had people around him which he didn't have when he was at home. He was very well looked after by staff and management that were very nice, compassionate and very gentle with my dad when
moving him and were always very polite, pleasant and caring. The manager was also very helpful and friendly which goes a very long way with me . My father came to the home on 8th may and sadly passed away there on the 8th June but all staff looked after my father very well and his passing was made very peaceful. I would recommend this home to any family member who's in need of nursing care.
Reply from Gillain Burnham, Director of Care Services at Temple Ewell Nursing HomePlease accept our sincerest condolences over the loss of your Dad. My daughter came to Temple Ewell for end of life care which was only for 5 weeks but I found reading the reviews very helpful at a very difficult time and helped us select Temple Ewell nursing home.
There were one or 2 minor issues which were dealt with quickly but the genuine care shown by the majority
of the nursing staff was amazing. Thank you in particular to two members of staff who showed such genuine care and compassion not only to my daughter but to our family too. I would definitley recommend this home.

My mum lived in the home for a year. She was receiving palliative care and was bedbound. The staff were excellent. My mum, myself and family were all welcomed and cared for in all situations. During her last days my mum was so closely monitored and, as always, kept her dignity. She was clean and extremely
comfortable too. The staff also looked after me and my sister during this difficult time and reassured us that Mum was in no pain or discomfort. We can not thank the staff enough for everything they did for Mum and the family too. Thank you. Thank you.

Our dad became a part of the Byron Lodge family in January 2025. I really didn't know what to expect as we've never had a parent in a home before. From day one, we was put at ease by the fantastic staff of the home and our dad seemed very comfortable and settled. It's now March and dad has got so much
confidence and is now able to sit in a reclining chair in the homes communal room, so a big well done and thank you for your help with getting dad to do this.

My sister arrived at Fort Horsted after a traumatic and lengthy time in hospital. She has now been in the home for two years. I cannot thank the staff enough for all their kindness and care and for providing a calm and caring environment. Whenever we visit there is always a friendly greeting and welcome,
and my sister is well cared for. Her being in Fort Horsted has taken away the stress and worry for me in knowing she is safe and being looked after.

When I first entered the home, I wasn't particularly happy with the initial look of her room. It has 2 beds in it and was very dated. However, I was reassured that it would be highly unlikely mum would have to share the room. As time went by, I realised that the care mum has been receiving had been
so wonderful and kind it doesn't matter about the decor! (the home is actually in the process of redecoration) All the staff are very friendly and caring, always asking how I am as well as caring for my mum. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

My father has been at Fort Horsted since the 1st of June 2024. He gets the very best treatment and care. All the staff with no exceptions are caring, and professional and all go the extra mile to look after my 93-year-old father who has Parkinson. The care doesn't stop there it continues to myself and
mother and we are truly thankful in this difficult time.
Reply from Gillain Burnham, Director of Care Services at Fort Horsted Nursing HomeThank you so much for your lovely review and taking the time to write it, it means so much to us all. We try very hard to create a "family" and we recognise that having a loved one living in a nursing home is a very difficult decision to have to make. The ethos we try to maintain is we are there to serve and the Home is the residents Home and we are all guests with the privilege to provide care and comfort, not only to the residents but to their family and friends.Thank you again for the review, I will make sure all staff at Fort Horsted get to see it,with kindest regards, Director of Care Services

Overall, I have found that the communication between management and staff can be very poor. Also, I have found the cleanliness of the overall home, toilet, and resident bedrooms to be very poor, to the fact, I regularly have to ask staff and cleaners to clean my grandad's room as it has been clear it
hasn't been cleaned, as I visit regularly. The furnishings and medical equipment are outdated. However, the nurses are very good at responding to health concerns.
Reply from Gillain Burnham, Director of Care Services at Temple Ewell Nursing HomeI am sorry to learn of your concerns and I can only apologise that we appear to have fallen short in the service that we pride ourselves in. We have a robust housekeeping team and all our staff complete infection control training as one of the many training courses we provide for our staff. The communication between management and staff I am not sure I understand what your experience would have been of this but would be happy to discuss this in person with you. I am sorry that you find our furnishing outdated, we continue to invest in refurbishment and equipment to ensure our residents have a comfortable home. I would very much welcome the opportunity to meet with you in person to discuss your issues and concerns and although I am not based at the Home I am happy to come a meet you at a time convenient to yourself. Please feel free to email me or contact the Home and the administrator can arrange a meeting for us. Kindest Regards

I have often visited my friend at this place. She is always clean and is always well cared for. The staff are always polite even though my friend can be very unpleasant. The staff go above and beyond to make things better even if my friend is ungrateful. I think they have a very difficult task but I

My mother entered the Temple Ewell Nursing Home in April 2020 in an 'end of life' condition. This was just as the Covid pandemic was beginning. The way that the staff maintained services at that time was a tribute to them. My mother then rallied for a further three and a half years, largely due to the
care and attention she was given. We found the home was kept very clean, the nursing care was consistently good and the staff extremely caring, friendly, and approachable. The food was to a good standard and my mother was assisted with eating when this became necessary. Any minor issues that arose were dealt with quickly and satisfactorily. We were particularly touched with the very sensitive and feeling way the staff cared for my mother in the last few weeks of her life and at her passing. An additional touch related to my mother's wedding ring which became lost and was found and returned to us after her passing. Overall, our experience of the home was excellent.
Reply from Gillain Burnham, Director of Care Services at Temple Ewell Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review, your mum was such a lovely lady and we all miss her at Temple Ewell. She taught us all great lessons in patience and tolerance and Godly serenity. As always such a privilege when we can share in a family's love and care.
