Overall Experience

My mum stayed at Astley View for 2 weeks respite care. When my husband and I first visited to assess the suitability for her, we were really impressed with how modern, fresh and clean the place felt. The staff were so friendly and the rooms and public spaces were beautifully decorated, more like a 5 star hotel! We were amazed that it had a salon and a cinema there! And we loved the fact that the place was organised into communities which each community having it's own dining room with tablecloths, napkins, daily changing menu, etc. It was so lovely, that we would have been quite happy to stay there ourselves. The staff did a thorough home assessment before my mum went to stay at Astley View. On her first day, all staff made a concerted effort to meet with my mum and get to know her. Two weeks later, on our return, my mum told us she absolutely loved it there. She was looked after medically, physically and emotionally, better than she is with me at home! Thank you so much.

My mother had been living independently in her own home in North Wales. Following a fall, my mother's physical condition deteriorated rapidly and she could no longer manage on her own. We made the difficult decision to bring her up to Lancaster and began looking for care homes. We visited Ashton Manor. From the moment we stepped in we were impressed by the professionalism of the management team. Effective security systems in place when outsiders visit the home. The building is purpose built for all residents. It is immaculately clean and welcoming. All members of staff are friendly, hard working and always on hand to help. Food and drinks are of high quality and freshly prepared. All of my mother's needs are met.

Overall Experience
My Mum has been a resident at Ashton Manor since January 2026. I have already submitted a review about the excellent care given by all staff. However my partner and I recently met with the manager regarding deferred payment whilst we sell Mums house. She was very reassuring and extremely helpful. Whilst deferred funding was an readily available option, and with no interest charged, she suggested another excellent option for longer term funding which we had not been aware of and will probably persue.

In addition to the practical advice we were given, the clear concern for and interest in, the residents as individuals demonstrated by the manager was lovely to see. As an ex nurse, I have experienced senior managers who lose sight of the core needs of the service users and focus on business demands to the detriment of the care given. This is definately not the case at Ashton Manor.

My relative, who has complex mobility needs, stayed at Astley View for respite care following an operation. The home provided a welcoming and friendly environment, in which care was centred around her specific needs. The staff were kind and sensitive, both to her psychological well being and her physical needs, taking time to understand her as an individual. She appreciated the quality environment and professionalism of the staff, but did express two concerns 1) she felt there were too few staff on duty at times of high demand (8:00 to 10:00), and 2) her bathroom had too few handrails for her to feel confident in navigating the space independently. As we live at a distance, we were well supported by staff, dealing with our enquiries and keeping us updated. Thank you to everyone involved in caring for my relative.

Staff are caring, respectful, kind, patient and thoughtful towards my mum who suffers dementia Alzheimer's and Vascular dementia. They understand how this affects mum as an individual and always treat her with understanding and dignity. It is lovely calm, friendly clean and welcoming home which has enabled mum to settle in quickly and socialise more freely.

Overall Experience
I can honestly say the home is fabulous. It always starts from the top and the home is beautifully run and managed and ALL staff work exceptionally hard to provide a loving, caring, respectful and safe environment for the residents and relatives, often going the extra mile.

The facilities are second to none including a comprehensive activities programme designed to meet the needs of all residents, a cinema, corner shop, beauty salon and library, not to mention the coffee machine in reception!

The care my loved one receives allows me to have quality time and create new memories when I visit and when I leave the home I do so knowing that she will be well cared for, loved, emotionally supported and safe.

As a recently retired nurse visiting every day I write this review with full confidence and I can therefore highly recommend Astley View as an outstanding care home.

The overall care at Ashton Manor is good although there has been a lack of continuity with care staff.
There also appears to be a delay with some maintenance on the top floor which detracts from the overall appearance of the home.

The food is not of the standard I would expect and needs to improve and be more suited to the needs of the residents.

Thank you for taking the time to provide a review. We always appreciate honest feedback about our services. From 1st contact/enquiry for respite care through to discharge home, the support and care provided have been excellent. Every single member of staff, including reception and housekeeping, have been helpful, respectful and kind. The care staff have gone above and beyond in their care of my dad. I would not hesitate to recommend Astley View, and will definitely use them again for further respite stays/long term stays when required.

Overall Experience

Definitely five star. Mum went in for respite over 3 weeks. I couldn't have asked for better care. The staff were very supportive and helpful. Mum had 24 hour care and was looked after so well in Astley view. The time she spent there gave family the respite we needed. I couldn't recommend them enough. From the first meeting to assess her needs where Kristian came to her home and did a thorough job finding out about mum. She really took to him and opened up. When she was in Astley view everyone had time for her from Sharon who's team cared for her to Joy on reception who was a breath of fresh air. Wonderful place, bedrooms very modern and clean with en-suite that had all the amenities you would expect for someone with limited mobility. Lots of things to do if mum wanted to join in, although she wasn't always up to it.

My 96 year old mum stayed for two weeks to enable us to go on holiday. She loved her room and the care given by all. She really enjoyed the activities such as the harpist musical afternoon, cinema afternoon, and games afternoon as well as socialising in the lounge areas. She really appreciated the weekly hairdresser visit, too.
She said it seemed like being in a luxury setting, with excellent food and attention to detail.

By the end of her two weeks weeks she felt comfortable and relaxed with both staff and new friends. She is looking forward to a longer stay in May and feels this will become her forever home in the not too distant future. .

From the day I went to explore Astley View Care home for my mum (which I did without booking) Catherine on reception was really lovely - she made me feel completely at ease showed my round the facility and showed me a few rooms that were available. Her kind and friendly approach made me feel the care home would be perfect for mum for short term respite care. When mum arrived the staff were friendly and supportive and due to complexities of mum's medication and follow up appointments they were really helpful in chasing things up or taking mum to appointments when I couldn't. Mum felt so at home there, she loved joining in the various activities/trips out - thank you to all the staff that helped her. An amazing lovely clean and friendly care home.

After visiting several other local care homes there was a clear winner for us. From the moment we walked through the doors, it just felt right. The staff are so friendly, from the carers to the laundry staff and chef.

Mum feels so well looked after and supported which gives us such peace of mind. The facilities are great and there is a good range of activities, something for everyone.

Visiting mum is a pleasure, the time we spend together is quality time.

Our experience as a family was very good. Friendly and caring staff, good facilities & food. The most impressive thing was the care as the staff don't leave anything to chance and will air on the side of caution if they felt someone was not their usual self. Physical support was also very good. Bedrooms were modern, and clean and the bathrooms were very well equipped for anyone with physical challenges. Unfortunately our dad was not very engaging during his 3 week stay but this was no reflection on the environment, staff or care.

My mother in law moved into Astley view at the end of February 2025 and she is very happy there. As a family we do not worry about her care as we know she couldn't get any better.
Every member of staff we have come into contact with are friendly and helpful. They go above & beyond to ensure the residents are looked after with respect and dignity.
The rooms are clean, spacious and beautifully decorated and the home is kept spotlessly clean. The food is so good my mother in law has gained weight and looks much better for it.
They have a fantastic activities team who keep the residents engaged and active. I always say they have a better social life than we do!
The home holds both resident and relative meetings where you can raise concerns, ask questions and make suggestions for improvements. We have attended these and seen all plans put into action which is great as you feel listened to.

If you're considering Astley View for your loved one, just do it you won't regret it.

If you are wondering if Astley View is the right care home for your relative then I can honestly say whole heartedly it is.
My Mum has been a resident for approximately 18 months, and myself a regular visitor.
She has been so well looked after, whether it is visits from district nurses, doctors visits, help with her personal hygiene, medication given on time or her 3 meals a day plus cake and biscuits served every day.
The menu is varied and quite often when I visit I wish I was having what she's having. In particular the homemade soups which are delicious.
The staff are very friendly and also very good at their jobs. Nothing is too much trouble and the care and attention they give is very much appreciated. Regular teams work together on the same unit which gives continuity.
Lots of activities are organised and are very well attended. Activities range from a knit and natter session to a movie in the cinema or an interesting talk, plus music.

Would highly recommend Astley View

Our 95 yr old Mum stayed at Astley view last September for 3 weeks respite care. She thoroughly enjoyed her stay even though there was a covid outbreak. She likened the rooms to a 5 star Hotel. She said the food was excellent and the staff were very good with her, they really looked after her when she was ill one day. She liked it that much that she wants to return in June God willing.
