My mother has been in Alexander House for nearly three years. She is well looked after and comfortable. She especially appreciated the Christian ethos of the home and enjoys the prayers, hymns, and church services.

My mother was a resident at Alexander House, and since her death, I have been a regular visitor. We live locally, and after viewing several other residential care homes in the area, Alexander House was the obvious choice for our Mum. Its small size of twenty residents maximum is it's secret. It immediately feels home as soon as you walk in. It is cosy and comfortable, residents share a nicely furnished sitting room, making a convivial atmosphere for conversation, reading and dozing! The staff are friendly, kind and caring. Their pastoral care is of a high standard, well catered for individual needs and personal care. The food is of an equally high standard offering a varied choice, using good quality ingredients, and served in a spacious and airy dining room. This is a Christian home, at its heart, there is regular worship. There is always a lot going on at Alexander House with a well thought out daily routine of activities and entertainment. The large and beautiful garden offers apace and relaxation in the spring/summer months. I would not hesitate in recommending Alexander House to anyone looking for a 'home from home' for their loved ones.’

My mother had a very happy time there. The staff treated her well and she liked everyone. I am particularly pleased about the arrangements last Christmas where my wife and I were included on Christmas Day dinner. Sadly it was to be her last for my mother. Thank you.

Alexander House is so much more than a care home. It is a real home. My mum moved in 2019 and has now lived there very happily for over 18 months. She is very well cared for and really enjoys life. The staff take the time to get to know each of the residents and provide the care and support each of them needs. There is a wide range of activities which residents have the option to join in with and my Mum loves to join the church services and music in particular. The food is excellent and choices are always offered. I particularly appreciate always feeling very welcome and included in her care. I'm not treated as 'a visitor' but as part of the home community which means I don't think of Alexander House as an 'institution' but as my mum's home. All the staff have gone the extra mile to pull together during the pandemic and have done everything they can to keep the residents safe. I'm so grateful that my mum has been so well looked after during this difficult time.

Our church organises services and visits once a month, either face to face or online. As an example, we did socially distanced carol singing from the car park recently.
A number of our team have had parents living in the home, so we have a particular affinity with Alex House.

We so enjoy the opportunities, as do the residents and staff. Their organisation of us is great, and once we’ve had the service, we all enjoy the tea, cake and chat that follows!

I would very highly recommend Alexander House to anyone looking for a care home with staff who genuinely care for their residents. My mother moved to Alexander House from her seaside home. Gradually she not only settled in well but also became genuinely happy here. It feels like a proper home, not an "institution", and most importantly, she could not have asked for kinder carers. The main reception rooms have now been very tastefully refurbished, with lovely new curtains and furniture, and the beautiful Victorian plasterwork on the ceilings has been retained, so the house has an air of grandeur. It has a peaceful conservatory overlooking the garden, which is one of Alexander House's major assets. It is amazingly quiet for a garden in London and is well stocked with mature plants and impressive trees. My mother's room was small but had the advantage of overlooking a superb magnolia tree in this garden. The home has a good car park too.

Alexander House in Wimbledon has become my dear old mum's home during the last year, after moving from her previous home town on the South Coast. My sister and I spent considerable time discussing the best way forward and reviewing care homes in the areas near to our own respective homes.
We were initially impressed with Alexander House, and long-term experience has proved that we made the right choice. We are delighted to have found a truly caring environment for Mum, where she is clearly valued as a person, and the staff are without exception dedicated to their job.
I often join my mother for lunch, and can vouch that the food is invariably pretty good! Hopefully, there may be a vacant space for me in about 25 years time!

I would, without any reservation, recommend Alexander House as a fine example of how a care home should be run.

Alexander House is a pleasant and homely building with a beautiful garden. It is very well run and in the few years in which my mother has been there, the standard of care has been consistently exceptionally high. The staff are absolutely wonderful. It is always pleasant to visit and my mother greatly appreciates the place.

I continue to be impressed with Alexander House Wimbledon. The staff have been extremely helpful, especially when mum's care needs changed recently and Alexander House agreed to move mum to a better room and increased the 1:1 care to accommodate my mums changing condition. The steak and kidney pie is pretty good too!

Overall Experience

I have come into contact with Alexander House through my partner's Mother who has lived there for nearly 3 years. I always think of Alexander House as a family home, not a care home, where residents are treated with utter respect and dignity, and as individuals with a valid place in society. This is as it should be but not always the case given my own experience of a family member living in a care home towards the end of her life. What singles out Alexander House as a wonderful place is their staff who are utterly professional but also kind - they are simply brilliant. The home is fun, where activities abound, and where the residents are stimulated. If you are looking for a home for your relative rather than an impersonal care home, then this is the one for you, with bells on!

Andrea Howell Jones
Andrea Howell JonesJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2024

I have over 15 years' experience working in the care sector, starting in domiciliary care before moving into residential care. I realised that I enjoyed this type of work, and felt great satisfaction whenever I left work for the day.

I did my NVQ Level 3, and was then appointed Team Leader, before Clinical Lead. I wanted to grow more, so when the opportunity came for me to study at Level 5, I was so happy. In 2021, I became Care Manager which provided me with further opportunities.

Now I am at Keychange, I am hoping to make a change at Alexander House. It is a great place to work, staff are eager to learn, and it is not just a job for them. I had a great mentor (still do), and she empowered me, and my greatest wish is that I will be able to empower the staff here, enabling them to reach their potential.

I want to be a good leader encouraging staff growth, the independence of our residents and hopefully building relationships with the wider community.
