My mother has been living at the care home for fifteen months. She has Alzheimer's dementia and practically no short term memory but takes an interest in her family and in the world. We appreciate that the staff are trained to understand her condition and that they are caring towards her. They also give support to help her to participate in activities. These are of both social and cognitive value for her. I have arrived in the lounge several times to find her visibly if quietly, interested in and enjoying an activity such as a quiz. The nature of the questions, prompting memories, and the conversation around them gain her attention. The visiting singing groups are also excellent. My mother appreciates the garden too and I gather that she enjoyed a visit to a garden centre last year. The food is good at the care home and she now eats with more appetite since becoming a resident.

A very comfortable, well presented and welcoming home. My mother has Alzheimer's and is very well cared for. The staff are kind and professional with good communication skills. The location is exceptional, easy access to the common, park and village, great for walks out. Relatives are listened to and consulted regularly. I am very pleased Mum is staying in Alexander House and would recommend it without reservation.

My Mum has been at Alexander House for 2 and a half years. I feel extremely lucky to have found such a lovely place for my Mum. She is very happy here and we, her family, are also very pleased with the care she receives. I knew as soon as I walked into Alexander House it would be the right place for my Mum. It is more like a home than a Home, with a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere, photos of residents on the walls, and a general happy feel about the place. Mum's needs have changed quite considerably since she has been here, but this has been met with intelligent and thoughtful care reviews with Mum's happiness and health always at the forefront of any care plans. It is a small home with only 20 residents which really helps provide more a family feel, there are daily activities which try and meet all the resident's different interests and capabilities, including yoga, gardening club, music, art, quizzes etc. I would definitely recommend Alexander House.

Have always been pleased with the care my mother receives. She is treated with dignity and respect and, although she has Alziemers, is still encouraged to engage in activities and choices. The home is like a "home" and we as family, are always welcomed whatever time we go in and we can take mum to her room or stay downstairs. If we want to take her out she is always made ready as we have asked in advanced. Any concerns are always listened to by management and staff and we are kept informed. Likewise, if staff have concerns, they will speak with us. Her key worker knows her well and has a good relationship with her and us. The home also has a beautiful garden which is well utilised in the warmer weather. We are very happy with Alexander House.

My sister and I chose Alexander House for mum because of the lovely sense of belonging they give to their residents and families of residents. Also, the level of care and support is always of a high standard. The home is clean, bright, safe and also has a beautiful garden. There's always something going on, such as arts and crafts, flower arranging, even occasional cookery classes. My mum thinks she is in a hotel and is very contented. Although mum has Alzheimer's disease and can be quite hard to handle, she is always treated with patience and dignity. We're every happy with her care and are so glad we can feel at ease knowing mum is being looked after so well.

My mother-in law has been living at Alexander House since leaving hospital after a heart attack last December. She has vascular dementia. Her physical condition has improved with the care given her during the last six months. She is contented. We witness patience and kindness from staff whenever we visit. There is a positive, happy atmosphere of being in a home, in the best sense of the word. Staff know their patients and work well as a team towards keeping residents happy.

We are confident that we have chosen a home we would be happy to stay in ourselves, were we in similar circumstances.

Andrea Howell JonesJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2024

I have over 15 years' experience working in the care sector, starting in domiciliary care before moving into residential care. I realised that I enjoyed this type of work, and felt great satisfaction whenever I left work for the day.

I did my NVQ Level 3, and was then appointed Team Leader, before Clinical Lead. I wanted to grow more, so when the opportunity came for me to study at Level 5, I was so happy. In 2021, I became Care Manager which provided me with further opportunities.

Now I am at Keychange, I am hoping to make a change at Alexander House. It is a great place to work, staff are eager to learn, and it is not just a job for them. I had a great mentor (still do), and she empowered me, and my greatest wish is that I will be able to empower the staff here, enabling them to reach their potential.

I want to be a good leader encouraging staff growth, the independence of our residents and hopefully building relationships with the wider community.
