My mother was a resident at Woodbury Manor for a period of six and half months. A very difficult decision to place her in a home was made so much easier by the way she was cared for by all staff. Not living locally also made it quite hard for the family, as it was difficult to see her on a regular basis.
The staff were very professional in their dealings with my mother, also making sure she was able to settle down and adjust to her new surroundings very quickly. I have recently been able to move her to a care home closer to family, but will definitely not forget the kindness, love and care she was shown by all staff. The family did not have to worry about her welfare, being so far away, as we knew she was being well looked after. I would like to thank all of the staff for helping and caring for my mother during her time at Woodbury Manor. I would recommend Woodbury Manor and hope others are able to benefit from their services as my mother did.

Without a doubt, the care provided lengthened my sister's life. She soon accepted that Woodbury Manor was her new home. She loved the staff and right to the end of her life they gave her wonderful care and love. She passed away aged 87 on the 30th of August 2022.

My mother-in-law was a resident at Woodbury Manor Care Home for just over three years, some of which was in the Covid lockdown.
I can honestly say that even through the lockdowns the staff have been excellent, very friendly and attentive and my mother-in-law always felt at home and well cared for.
The staff go above and beyond to put on activities for the residents, which from the Facebook page always look great and everyone looks to be thoroughly enjoying.
I would definitely recommend Woodbury Manor and I would like to say thank you from all the family for being so kind and caring to my mother-in-law.

My dad was a resident at Woodbury Manor and he was very happy. He told any visitor it was like living in a 4-star hotel.
He enjoyed his time there and he always said they were very professional, caring and treated him with dignity, which is all I could wish for.
He was so happy he wanted to end
his days there instead of going to a hospice because he was well looked after.
I felt the staff were angels without wings. So kind and caring. Nothing was too much for my dad and he really appreciated it.
Thank you everyone at Woodbury Manor for looking after my precious dad until the end.

My mum has been a resident since August 2020 so we haven't known the home in non-Covid times. Visiting has been understandably difficult but we are looking forward to being able to use the bar at some point! The staff have all been very friendly.

My mother has been a resident at Woodbury Manor for a year now. She went into the home at a particularly challenging time for everyone - right in the thick of the pandemic. It has been a huge relief for me to know that she is being cared for professionally and with great sensitivity and that she has
continuous and warm human contact, which she had so missed during the lockdowns.
The staff are very good at communicating with relatives: I get a phone call whenever something has happened that I should know about, and these are always handled sensitively. The Covid restrictions have meant visiting is very difficult, but that is reassuring rather than concerning.

My father has been a resident at Woodbury Manor since December 2020. I have found over this period his dementia slowly getting worse but the nursing staff are always comforting, patient and understanding towards Dad.
I’m sure his health has greatly improved due to the environment and excellent care
he receives at Woodbury Manor. Covid restrictions have made visiting difficult but I’ve always been met with a complete accommodating attitude from the staff. Now restrictions are easing and we are allowed back to visits inside, I have seen a spotless environment, his room is always warm and clean.
Dad is happy being at Woodbury Manor he always looks well dressed, clean, cared for and content.
I enjoy seeing the Facebook page of the residents enjoying activities, more frequent posts would be nice.
I’d always recommend Woodbury Manor to others.

My mother went into Woodbury Manor in January 2021, followed by my father in March 2021. As a family, I can say that we have been very impressed with the care given to them by the staff. Mummy died in December, and everyone was very kind and made her last days as good as they could have been. Daddy
is there on his own now, which is hard for him, but again, the lovely staff are doing their best to support him. We are so grateful that there are people who dedicate themselves to what is a very demanding role, and we only have high praise for them.

I would like to express how happy I am with the care that I received. I would highly recommend Woodbury Manor to anyone. However, my concern was the toilet seat that was shaky and one of my neighbours was always ringing and the staff going.
Reply from Luke Sargeant, Operations Director at Woodbury Manor

Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We're sorry that there were some issues with your stay with us and we hope if you come back we can be given the opportunity to rectify these. We have an onsite maintenance team that would have been able to fix the issue with the toilet if they were made aware of the issue. In regards to your neighbour, it is sadly the case that some residents need more assistance than others but again, if we were made aware of the problem at the time we could have looked at alternative rooms for you to reside in. However, thank you again for your kind words and we would love to see you again soon.

Staff were exceptional. The deputy manager facilitated a rapid admission and stayed late on so many occasions. A second COVID vaccination and eye test were quickly arranged. GP, district nurse and Care Home Assessment Team were involved in her care. Everyone was genuinely kind and caring even when my
mother in law became very confused and aggressive. We felt welcomed when we visited despite COVID restrictions. We were also able to call on the day if there were unbooked visits. Communication was excellent, senior staff remained in contact during hospital admissions and even after mother in law's death. The meals we saw looked appetising and were beautifully presented. Residents are treated with dignity and respect. The room was always clean and tidy. We were allowed to bring in an armchair from home. The grounds are lovely and we saw the activities coordinator running a session outside under the umbrellas. Overall we were extremely happy with the care received.

My mother was resident at Woodbury Manor from 2011 until her death in October 2019. Throughout that time she received the kindliest and best of care. homes before choosing Woodbury Manor, and we thought it was head and shoulders above the others and never regretted our choice.

My godfather was resident at Woodbury Manor for 3 years, until he passed away in October 2019. Residents spend most of their time seated. The majority cannot move from their seats without assistance. There are sedentary activities at times in the lounge, otherwise, the TV is on. Very few residents venture outside. There are no opportunities for trips, though the uptake would almost certainly
be very close or equal to zero. New residents rapidly drop down to a similar state as the others. The management is good but there appears to be a constant turnover of staff at the basic carer level.
Reply from Luke Sargeant, Operations Director at Woodbury Manor

Dear Brian, we are saddened to receive such feedback. Our residents are encouraged to ambulate freely around the home but many have conditions that require staff assistance to do so. Regarding activities, we have a varying in house program each week and recently had three trips to the seaside in August which residents enjoyed but your mother declined to attend. Staff turnover is currently at ~10% whereas the national average is over 30%, therefore we, unfortunately, disagree with your perception.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.440)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.440) out of 10 for Woodbury Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.790 for Woodbury Manor is calculated as follows: ( (83 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.79
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodbury Manor is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.75
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
