My husband moved into Poplars in August last year. He is very happy and I'm happy with his care. The staff are very caring and look after him very well. He likes going on the outings. All the staff are very friendly. Poplars is like a home from home.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I began volunteering at Poplars care home in June of 2024, as I wanted something meaningful to do while being at home from university. Before I started, I received an introduction and had a brief tour of the home, and I immediately felt really welcomed. I volunteered to help out for the duration of
the summer until I went back to university in September. I helped on trips to the local shops, cafe and to the local Lido, while also helping with bingo, quizzes, and exercise, and just generally keeping residents company. I then returned to Poplars care home for the following Christmas and Summer, as I enjoyed my experience so much. I honestly feel like part of the Poplars family, and I'm so grateful to have had the experience to volunteer here and make a difference to the residents' lives.
Reply from Julie Bell, Office Manager at Poplars Care HomeThank you so much Caitlin for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and heartfelt review of your volunteering experience at Poplars Care Home. We are truly grateful for the time, enthusiasm, and kindness you have given to our residents since joining us.

It is wonderful to hear that you felt welcomed from the outset and that your time with us-whether supporting outings, activities, or simply spending time with residents-was both meaningful and enjoyable. Your continued return during the Christmas and summer periods speaks volumes, and we are delighted that you feel part of the Poplars family.

Our residents and team have greatly valued your contribution, and the positive difference you have made has not gone unnoticed. Thank you once again for your dedication and compassion. We wish you every success with your university studies and very much look forward to welcoming you back whenever you are able to visit.

Poplars is an excellent care home. As a visitor you always receive a very warm welcome. There is a lovely atmosphere in the lounge and residents are treated with kindness, patience and understanding by the staff. The one-to-one care my sister received was outstanding. The home is well maintained and
residents can have their rooms decorated in their own style. Would definitely recommend Poplars to anyone looking for a care home for a loved one.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the care my sister is receiving and she says the same. The carers are first class, friendly and will do anything for her. They keep her happy which is not easy some of the time.

The food is very good and Chef goes out of his way to provide alternatives when asked

for. Everywhere in the home always looks clean and tidy and the garden is well kept.

There are plenty of activities going on each week and I am amazed at how many times they go out, even in the winter.

However, I have been disappointed that she has put on a lot of weight since her fall. Also, the subsequent physio exercise recommended to strengthen her legs was stopped for quite some time. It has now been resumed and Anne is doing a great job getting her moving.

Overall, I would highly recommend Poplars to anyone who is looking for a care home for a relative or friend.

Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeYour kind words about our carers will be shared with the team, who will be delighted to know their friendliness, dedication and commitment to keeping your sister happy are so appreciated. We are also pleased that you have been satisfied with the food, cleanliness of the home, the upkeep of the garden, and the range of activities available. Providing meaningful engagement and opportunities for outings throughout the year is something we value greatly.
We understand how important mobility and overall wellbeing are, and we appreciate you highlighting this. Please be assured that we take this feedback seriously. As you have noted, her physiotherapy exercises have now resumed, and Anne, will continue to support and encourage her to stay active and build strength. We will ensure her nutritional needs and weight are kept under review as part of her ongoing care planning.
Thank you once again for your feedback and for your continued trust in our team.

My mother has been a resident for 3 years now.
I am extremely satisfied with mums care since day one.
The staff at all levels are very considerate, caring & respectful.
It's never an easy decision to put a loved one into care. But it was the right time for mum & us a family.
It's more like
a home from home really. Nothing clinical looking about each room beautifully decorated to a high standard.
High standards in washing mums clothes, bedding.
General housekeeping excellent.
Food good selection/variety. Constant tea available mums main demand in life.
Activities & days out great fun. Myself & my sons have often found ourselves in a game of Bingo or an afternoon out to a local cafe with mum.
They step up the care when needed accordingly say if mums not been well.
They are like my extended family now.
The care & guidance for relatives & residents is 2nd to none.
I looked at several homes locally & Poplars stood out by a mile for all the right reasons.
Absolutely 100%

My mum passed away on 16th July 2025 after living for two years at Poplars and I couldn't have asked for a better place for her. She had a spacious, well-decorated room with a private bathroom, and the home was always spotlessly clean. The food was excellent and thoughtfully tailored to each resident's
preferences.

Staff were consistently friendly and caring, and the atmosphere was genuinely happy-residents were engaged, supported, and clearly content. Mum loved the daily activities like painting, card making, and gentle exercise, as well as regular outings to local cafés and picnics in the area. The garden was a particular highlight-beautiful and well-kept.

Mum made wonderful friends and often said how lucky she felt to be there. I'll always be grateful to Poplars for making her final years so happy and for looking after her with such care and kindness.

Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeThank you Sue for taking the time to share such a touching and thoughtful review. We are deeply sorry for your loss, and we feel privileged to have been a part of your mum's life over the past two years. It means so much to our whole team to know that Poplars felt like a safe, happy, and supportive home for her. Your kind words about the staff, activities, meals and environment are truly appreciated - they remind us why we do what we do. Knowing that your mum felt happy, engaged and cared for is the greatest reward we could ever hope for. The garden won't be quite the same without her, and we will always speak of her with fondness. Thank you for trusting us with her care.
With heartfelt sympathy and gratitude, The Poplars Care Home team

Dear team and management at Poplars,
I wanted to give a fulsome and heartfelt 'thank you' (enormously) for all the help, care & support you gave both to my mother, Lady Joan, who was resident with you for 2 and a half years, and to us as her family in terms of liaison and support.
Joan was far from
the easiest person to look after & care for but all your staff and management showed & demonstrated curiosity (about her) and huge imagination in best catering for her needs throughout, from the outset to the very end. It was an enormous relief for us all that you took great care in seeing & learning how best to support & care for Joan. Despite Joan's challenging behaviour, you took the greatest care for her, which (as you saw) meant she ended up trusting you implicitly: no easy feat for anyone dealing with my mother! You also demonstrated superb care for her & for us in her final week, essentially capping beautifully a time when you took as many worries away from us. Thank you!
Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such a heartfelt and thoughtful message. Your words mean a great deal to all of us at Poplars. It was truly an honor to care for Lady Joan and to support your family throughout her time with us. We understand that every individual has unique needs, and we are so pleased to know that our team's efforts to provide compassionate, personalised care made a positive difference for Joan and for you. Your acknowledgment of our curiosity and imagination in meeting her needs is deeply appreciated-it reflects the values we strive to uphold every day. Supporting families during challenging times, especially in the final stages of life, is something we take very seriously. Knowing that we were able to ease your worries and earn Joan's trust is the greatest reward we could hope for. Thank you again for your kind words and for entrusting us with Joan's care. Please know that your message will be shared with the entire team-it will mean so much to them.

My friend moved into Poplars in Nov 24, & not a day has passed since she and I don't thank our lucky stars that she did. I have known her over 25 years, & I can honestly say that I have never seen her as consistently happy as she is since she moved in & she is truly "living her best life". The home
is bright, well maintained & even though it is not her old home, every effort is made to make the residents feel like they are in a home environment. The garden is just beautiful, all year round - & there are areas for everyone. The thing that really sets Poplars apart though are the staff. You really get to know them all, & you can just tell that they all care. The activities that they put on are brilliant - if you ever get a chance to have a go with the Interactive Projector - I can guarantee you'll leave with a smile on your face. The food is also pretty amazing, and the fact that residents can chose different meals to the set menu is a real bonus. I could write another 1000 words...
Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeThank you for providing such positive feedback for the Home. My cousin moved in to the Poplars in November 2024 and settled in on day one. The home itself, in terms of rooms, facilities etc, is ideal, but the Poplars biggest strength is the staff. The management team is very caring and it didn't take my cousin long to build a strong bond with many of them. We
did a lot of initial research into care homes and feel that we have 100% made the correct choice.

The Poplars Care Home provides an outstanding quality of service. From the owner and managers in the care home, who show real affection for all the residents, the warm and friendly reception staff, who are the kindly face of the care home to residents and visitors alike, and all the careers and support
staff who make the home a warm, safe and welcoming place. We initially had concerns about travelling for up to 1 hour each time to visit the care home to see our loved one but they washed away when we saw how everyone was cared for and looked after. There is a family atmosphere as soon as we walk through the front doors and we look forward to our visits to see our loved one and meet everyone there whether it's residents or staff. It is a rewarding experience and we would hope the Poplars is a model for all care homes.

I visit a resident regularly (every couple of weeks), and as a visitor, I'm always welcomed warmly by staff who are, without fail, helpful and friendly. Residents are very well treated by the staff who show patience and understanding. There is always a full programme of things going on if residents
care to join in. My friend never fails to tell me how happy she is there. I've seen her room, which is very pleasant and comfortable with an ensuite, decoratively the bedroom is clean and delightful. The residents' sitting room is thoughtfully decorated in a style which is stimulating - I love the bird wallpaper!

  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Poplars Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Care Manager Joined: 2020

After completing a Psychology degree I worked in a variety of support roles working with people with mental ill health and worked my way up to Registered Manager. I have had 16 years of experience in this role in a variety of residential settings with different client groups and also have area-managed residential and supported living services.

It is a huge responsibility to be entrusted with your loved ones and it is my aim that their experience of care is fun, safe and person-centred achieved via an established and well-trained care team who absolutely have the right values for the job.

Job Title: Operations Manager Joined: 2019

My role at the Home is to oversee the catering, housekeeping, and laundry. IT and maintenance of the Home. My priorities are safety for the residents, staff and visitors and a lot of my work involves maintaining compliance and pushing the service forward with innovative solutions.

The best part of my role is the residents; I will always make time to chat. I am passionate about learning more about how they want their care and the service to run. I also enjoy seeing the Poplars team working towards common goals.

Job Title: Office Manager Joined: 2021

I joined Poplars in November 2021. I decided that after working in the logistics business for over 25 years I needed a change of direction. I wanted to work in a job where I could use my organisational, analytical, and social skills to support people and Poplars has been the perfect choice.

The best part of my job is being able to spend some time during the day to have a chat with the residents at Poplars or join in one of the daily activities, which makes the sometimes very busy days very worthwhile.

My challenge has been to learn the procedures of what is required to work in a care home and to move out of my comfort zone and learn new things. No day is the same.

I was looking for a job where I would arrive at work with a smile on my face and leave with a smile on my face and I’ve found that at Poplars.
