Upon approaching Poplars Care Home I was met with kindness and understanding of my position. My Wife was in need of 24-hour care which I found difficult to deal with. A room was being vacated shortly and could be prepared for my Wife. She entered the home on the 4th of August 2024 and from then on has
been cared for and attended as required. Her general demeanour has improved immensely although her walking has not. She was always alert and welcoming and her general demeanour was always 1st class. Well done Poplars.
Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeThank you for your kind words. It has been a pleasure to have cared for your wife and we are so pleased to note you found the service caring and supportive.

All of the staff looked after my dad with care, compassion, and empathy.
Whenever we visited the home as we did frequently my dad would always be smiling! And whatever staff were on would always make us feel at home, they would also update us as to Dad's status when we asked. Sadly my Dad has passed
away now, but I am so glad he spent his time in Poplars, and quite a few members of staff attended his funeral, for which I am grateful.
Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeThank you for your kind feedback; it was a pleasure to care for your father. We will miss him but certainly remember him fondly.

My parents were both cared for at Poplars over a 16-month period. During this time I knew that Mum and Dad were safe, cared for and most importantly received constant kindness from everyone working at the home. I felt like my parents had a family around them, who were never phased, always smiling and
laughing, interacting with Mum and Dad in every way possible.
The home organised regular trips out, from lunches in a local town, to a day trip to gardens. Mum particularly enjoyed these and having gone along on several myself, it was great to see the kindness and competence of all the team was as pronounced as it was in the home.
The decision to place Mum and Dad in care was very difficult, and I can now say they received the best possible quality of life and this is entirely due to the way the home is run, and the excellent staff.
The end-of-life care for Mum and Dad was particularly touching, looking after both them and me during the most difficult of times.
Thank you so much.
Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeThank you for your feedback. It was lovely to have cared for your parents and to note the organised activities were appreciated. It was also a pleasure to have supported them at their end of life. We hope to install a memorial plaque in the garden in their memory.

The whole team at Poplars Care Home are absolutely brilliant. I am so grateful for the dignity, respect, and compassion provided to my grandad. The activities on offer are really great: parties, singing performances, and a visiting Labrador to name a few! His smile and positive response demonstrates
how conscientious and caring the staff all are and what that meant to him. The carers were patient and respected his wishes throughout such as when he was determined to do tasks himself. Birthdays were special each year, with plenty of cake for everyone! The team demonstrated immense kindness and consideration towards our family, particularly during my grandad's palliative care. The team listened and reassuringly responded to our queries, consulting us throughout. Some went above and beyond in his final days, showing their professionalism and how much they care for the residents. I would definitely recommend Poplars and can’t thank the team enough for all their hard work and compassionate care.
Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeThank you, it was a pleasure to care for your grandfather. We look forward to installing a memorial plaque in the garden for him. We will certainly feedback to the team on your positive comments. We specialise in providing good care day in and day out, and your feedback gives us the reassurance we are doing it right. Thank you again.

Field trip organised to Kew Gardens.
Carers took the trip in their stride. Picnic was arranged, plenty of food and drink to be had. They catered for their every needs and they also seemed to enjoy the day along with their charges.
It was an extremely hot day, but they all did it with a smile on their
faces.
Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeThank you for your kind feedback; it was a great day to be out and about in the community. We are delighted to host these outings to places of interest and have a picnic. We hope there are many more to come! I will pass on your feedback to the care team.

Our mother (grandmother) has been living in Poplars Care Home for some time. The care and kindness she has received has been fantastic. The manager and all the staff have been brilliant and Poplars is an efficient, family-centred, friendly care home, with all the occupants being treated individually
for their needs. Every visit, the care home was clean and staff are always encouraging residents to participate, inventing new ideas, and making the environment welcoming. Examples of this include their regular imaginary trips away, where they reinvent different countries. Also, another example, is inviting young children to visit the care home. The recent coronation celebrations were excellent and having people come in to sing and entertain the residents regularly occurs. This excellent standard of care continues right till the end and we cannot thank them enough for the outstanding empathy and love they showed in her final days. We will always be eternally grateful. Thank you Poplars.

They have also dealt
with COVID restrictions very well.

From our first visit to Poplars, we felt that our mother would be well looked after there. The staff are welcoming, friendly and professional and there is a family atmosphere. The home is ideally placed for local visits to cafes, restaurants and a nice garden centre and Poplars itself has a lovely garden
which is full of flowers in the summer. The individual rooms are nicely decorated and the staff clearly make an effort to make the surroundings attractive and comfortable. Lots of activities are arranged for the residents both in the home and away from it and we have attended a Christmas party and a summer event and it was clear that a lot of thought and detail had gone into the planning of both. The staff always kept us informed with regard to health issues and worked with us in resolving any problems. I always felt confident that my mum was getting the best care possible and it took a weight off our shoulders knowing that she was being well looked after by a caring staff.
Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeThank you Victoria for your kind words; we strive to provide personalised and effective care for all our residents. We are delighted to note you have felt supported during your mothers time with us. I will feedback your kind words to the Team who all made it happen!

Our mother spent the final two years of her life at Poplars. It might not have a state of the art building, but the care given to our mother and both my sister and I was first-rate. The staff really do care about the residents and know them well. There are so many activities for residents and they
encourage everyone to join in. There was always a friendly welcome when I visited and I enjoyed those visits. It was like visiting family. My sister had long journeys to visit and was always greeted with tea and refreshments and a chat.
Poplars offers a lovely family environment - we were really pleased we chose it.
In the last few weeks of Mam's life, a comprehensive palliative care plan was arranged. We were well supported by the staff and Community Matron, our views were sought and respected and arrangments were made to make Mam's final days as comfortable and dignified as possible.
Our mother died peacefully in her sleep.
Thank you to all for your kindness.

The staff at Poplars have been kind and patient with my mum. They have tried to encourage her to join in activities but she tends to stay in her room. They pop in regularly to check on her and are friendly and approachable. Unfortunately, there is an issue with the laundry which seems to go astray regularly
and is a concern and worry to mum.
Reply from Sam Cader, Director at Poplars Care HomeThank you for your review. We are delighted to provide care for your mother. We have recently overhauled our laundry procedures and have been receiving positive feedback. We hope you are noting these changes along with your mother. Hopefully learning from any errors can make the system better for all.

Fairly happy, the only issue at moment is with laundry.
Items often missing, shoes not seen and missing for about 9 months. Clothes are often returned inside out, which means that they will probably go on the same way. We also find other people clothes and slippers in the cupboard.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.935)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.935) out of 10 for Poplars Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.935 for Poplars Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (243 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 260 Ratings = 4.935
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Poplars Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My role at the Home is to oversee the catering, housekeeping, and laundry. IT and maintenance of the Home. My priorities are safety for the residents, staff and visitors and a lot of my work involves maintaining compliance and pushing the service forward with innovative solutions.

The best part of my role is the residents; I will always make time to chat. I am passionate about learning more about how they want their care and the service to run. I also enjoy seeing the Poplars team working towards common goals.

Job Title: Office Manager Joined: 2021

I joined Poplars in November 2021. I decided that after working in the logistics business for over 25 years I needed a change of direction. I wanted to work in a job where I could use my organisational, analytical, and social skills to support people and Poplars has been the perfect choice.

The best part of my job is being able to spend some time during the day to have a chat with the residents at Poplars or join in one of the daily activities, which makes the sometimes very busy days very worthwhile.

My challenge has been to learn the procedures of what is required to work in a care home and to move out of my comfort zone and learn new things. No day is the same.

I was looking for a job where I would arrive at work with a smile on my face and leave with a smile on my face and I’ve found that at Poplars.
