Shaftesbury Court has a wonderful environment for its residents to enjoy and a team who are devoted to enriching their residents’ lives.

Providing residential care, the team also offer respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance. These are perfect for carers looking after loved ones at home, who need a short break themselves, with the peace of mind of knowing their relative is in safe hands and being well cared for.

The apartment-style bedrooms at Shaftesbury Court are stunning – spacious and beautifully decorated, they have ensuite wet rooms, kitchenettes, lounges and even a small dining area. They are a lovely space to enjoy spending time alone with family and friends, who are welcome at any time. There are also double suites for couples and many of the bedrooms overlook the gardens.

There are welcoming lounges, where residents enjoy so many activities, from baking, arts and crafts and spending time with visiting school children, to gentle exercise sessions and pet therapy. The home also has a hair salon for pamper sessions and regular appointments with the mobile hairdresser.

Residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals every day, prepared by the home’s chef. From roast dinners with all the trimmings, to fish and chip Fridays and lighter bites like freshly-made soups and pies. And there is home-baking every day for afternoon tea.

The enormous gardens are a real highlight, with vast lawns, a water feature, harbour-style seating, wheelchair friendly pathways and raised planters, for residents who enjoy gardening. They are a lovely place to relax in the summer and enjoy garden parties and barbecues.

But it’s the team, many of whom have worked at Shaftesbury Court for years, who make this home feel really special, creating a really warm, family feel.

My mum moved into Shaftesbury Court earlier this year and I couldn't be happier with the care she's receiving. I've witnessed the compassion and empathy shown by the staff as mum settled in and it's a great reassurance to know she is in safe hands.
Over the last few years, mum became quite isolated,
living alone and struggling with dementia. Shaftesbury Court has given her the chance to socialise with others, take part in regular activities and maintain some independence. She has her own room with a small kitchen and was able to bring many of her possessions from home.
There are good days and bad days of course but the staff (and the other residents) are all so supportive that mum is doing better than she has for a long time. Really thankful to everyone at Shaftesbury Court for taking care of her.
Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at Shaftesbury Court Residential Care HomeThank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback. It's wonderful to hear how well your mum has settled and how the supportive environment is helping her enjoy more independence and connection. It means a great deal to know she feels cared for.

I only have praise for this home!!! My mum-in- law (Marie) has moderate vascular dementia and the care she is receiving here is absolutely wonderful. The staff are just brilliant with her, and she is looking far better than she has ever been since her diagnosis. Her room is light and airy with a lovely
balcony overlooking the garden. The building itself and the communal facilities are well-kept, clean and bright. The staff really care about her welfare and go above and beyond. I am so impressed at how friendly and patient they are and they have really helped ease my and my husband's worries about mum's welfare. They are also proactive in terms of suggesting things that could be improved for my mum's care - and that counts for a lot!! They also have really good safekeeping procedures in place which has further contributed to easing our worries about mum's welfare. Thank you very much to Olu and every single member of the team for all the help with mum, brilliant job!

I wanted a Sanctuary care home after experience with another of their homes, Sanctuary seem to focus on residents and care first and let everything else follow.
I didn't want or consider Erith as a location but calculated it to be accessible and I realised my mum, once settled, wouldn't be aware of
the difference between Erith and locations in Greenwich.
My mum has lived at the home for a week now and, her life and mine have changed for the better. My mum arguably wasn't this happy, looked after and attended to when she was staying at my house. Totally recommended on every level, more like a hotel than the normal care home.
Thank you to Olu and all the staff here - wonderful people, you are making the world a better place.

My overall view of Shaftbury Court, is that the staff are very nice, the manager has always time to listen to any issues and staff, my mother is very happy there, they attend to any problems that arise promptly with medical problems and always call to say if she has urine infection, bloods done and
doctor informed so medicines can be prescribed, very happy with her care!

My mother has been at Shaftesbury Court for respite care, and it's been genuinely life-changing for her and for me. Before arriving, she was anxious and lonely at home, but here she's become calm, sociable, and truly content.

The staff are wonderful - caring, patient, and attentive. Mum feels safe,

supported, and valued, and she's told me several times how much she loves it there and would like to stay permanently.

It's a huge relief knowing she's happy and cared for so well. I'm incredibly grateful to Olu, Sharon, and the whole team for the compassion and dedication they've shown.

The rooms are lovely and building is well kept with a garden.

During my dads stay at Shaftesbury Court he was always made to feel valued by staff and when in and out of hospital was always greeted "home" with a warm welcome, which was greatly appreciated. I was welcomed to visit at any time, as often as I liked and I felt that I had a warm and friendly relationship
with staff. I trusted staff to care for my dad when I couldn't, and I could always be sure that the phone would be answered - day and night - or that I would be contacted as required - or as my dad desired, by staff that were attentive and genuinely caring. My dad's individual and unique needs were always well met with a person centred approach and I know that his relationships with individual staff members were highly valued.

My mother had terminal cancer and entered Shaftesbury Court when it became unsafe for her to remain in her home. From the beginning, the care she received was exemplary – the staff always kind and attentive, her clean and spacious room overlooking a sunny garden. End-of-life care was provided with sensitivity,
compassion and empathy in close collaboration with the excellent community nursing team. In all respects, this home exceeded our expectations.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.853)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.853) out of 10 for Shaftesbury Court Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.878 for Shaftesbury Court Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (197 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 221 Ratings = 4.878
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shaftesbury Court Residential Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
