The Spinney Care Home provides award-winning residential and residential dementia care with dignity, love and compassion.

With a focus on making life meaningful every day, residents enjoy a holistic, varied schedule of activities and events designed to promote their health and wellbeing. These include music and movement sessions, arts and crafts, as well as live performances, themed parties, animal therapy and minibus excursions to local places of interest.

The Spinney is a warm, comfortable and friendly home that offers welcoming en-suite bedrooms, spacious lounges, a bustling bistro and sunny conservatory (which is also a favourite spot for Ruby, the home's loving therapy cat). The home features a beautiful award-winning garden*, that is an oasis of calm and tranquility throughout the seasons.

And, with soothing lighting, music and aromatherapy, residents can experience multi-sensory relaxation as part of a group, or in the comfort of their own bedroom, during regular Namaste Care sessions.

Situated within walking distance of Chingford town centre, residents are also supported to maintain their connections with the local community. This includes a ‘make a wish’ initiative, granting residents’ wishes, big or small, and regular visits from Normanhurst School as part of its intergenerational engagement project.

The team is highly trained and supported to deliver the exceptional care that residents deserve, giving families the peace of mind that their loved one is receiving the highest quality care.

*In November 2023, The Spinney won the Dignity in Care award for the London region of the Great British Care Awards and its beautiful gardens have previously been awarded Winner in Trusted Care’s Top 5 Care Home Gardens in the UK (June 2022).

My friend has been in The Spinney for about 6 months now. Took a little time for her to warm up to her surroundings, but the staff's caring and obvious love of their job have made things really good for her. She has company and she is chatting and laughing and looks alive whereas before she was just
sitting at home all day. All the staff are The Spinney's greatest asset and all the regular activities are amazing. My friend loves going out now in the mini-bus and I can take her out shopping due to the closeness of the high street. I never hesitate in recommending The Spinney to all my friends and thankful it was recommended to me. Best decision ever to move my friend there.

My mother has been at The Spinney for 2 years now. There are many things that I love about the Spinney but I need to keep my review within 1000 words! So the 3 things that I love most about the Spinney are as follows:
Firstly, The Spinney has the most wonderful carers and staff who provide first class
person centered care, which is always kind, professional, positive and upbeat.
Secondly, The Spinney has exceptional activities including a weekly outing, entertainment and daily activities (including a monthly visiting pet and I can see my mother is so happy to interact with these lovely, friendly animals).
Thirdly, the location of The Spinney is a joy. It's so beautiful being next to the Forest/golf course. I believe this enhances everyone's overall well-being (residents, staff and visitors).
My mother is very silent now but she still enjoys short walks and when I visit, weather permitting we walk down Forest View and she does like to look at the trees and nature around.

The care which my relative gets is amazing, All the staff at the Spinney are caring, respectful, polite, professional, and are 100% committed in care giving.
The staff not only care for and support the client they also support family, and friends.
There are plenty of regular activities during the
day for those who wish to join in and weekly outings in Mini bus.

I would have no hesitation in recommending The Spinney care home.

A dear friend of mine suffers from dementia and has been a resident at the Spinney for nearly a year now.

I viewed a dozen care homes while looking to place my friend (i have POA) and the Spinney is heads and shoulders above any of the others I saw.

Whenever I visit there is a calm and friendly atmosphere.

The staff are helpful and personable and the place is always spotless. It feels more like a hotel then a carehome.

My friend was in a bad way, struggling at home alone but now is the most healthy and happy Ive seen her in years.

Highly recommended.

A lovely care home with kind friendly staff who really look after the residents. Engagement with family and friends is really good and the home put on lots of activities for the residents. Good food with an in house chef and you can have a friendly chat in the coffee bar called the Bistro.

My elderly mum has been in care at the Spinney for several months now and the care facilities are first class and very comfortable.
The care staff are friendly, supportive and caring and always attentive to their residents needs with quick response time. The kitchen catering is generally very good
with a variety of decent menus.
Overall, I would say The Spinney is a first class care home and is highly recommended.

My mother has lived at the Spinney for 3 years now and the staff never cease to amaze me. They are genuinely the most dedicated group of carers you could possibly ask for. They are attentive to both my mother and the family, knowing names and always ready to listen when it is needed. My mother always
looks well presented and comfortable and I am as always so happy that she lives at the Spinney. Thank you all.

I think all the staff are great and caring, my mother in law has been with you for over 4 years and now bed ridden as she broke her neck and stopped walking. The staff are really attentive to her as she really doesn't want to be here any more she has had enough.
She cannot get involved with any activities
now so misses out and mostly only eats toast.
Reply from Lisa Wright, Home Manager at The Spinney Care HomeThank you so much for your lovely words about our team - I will be sure to pass them on to them. Please be assured we will continue to ensure your mother-in-law is always as comfortable and engaged as possible, creating meaningful moments of connection with her, relaxation through multi-sensory Namaste Care sessions in her room, and ensuring her tea and toast, which she's particularly partial to, are made exactly how she likes them.

From the very beginning of my husbands stay, I have received nothing but warmth and cooperation even in those small moments when I have had cause to be concerned and I was always listened to.

The toughness of my situation has been hugely helped by the listening ears of the staff generally.

The

phone line is annoying bug I gather will be improved on. I have also made my own comments to staff regarding close watching of my husband and they have responded even during busy times.

Overall I am very pleased with all that is done to look after my dear husbsnd.

Great care home. Carers are very good and management are always available to talk to if there is anything that needs to be discussed. I think the food is the only thing that lets the care home down. It's nicely cooked but portion sizes are small, not enough vegetables at all and no proper hot meal at
night. Supermarket bread thst is used for evening sandwiches is low quality. I think the nutritional value of meals are not great and it seems like it is business profit over nutrition.
Reply from Lisa Wright, Home Manager at The Spinney Care HomeThank you for your kind words about our home and team, and for taking the time to leave a review. I was sorry to hear your concerns about the food but appreciated the chance to speak with you and explain our approach. Our menus are planned in partnership with residents to offer a variety of nutritionally balanced meals, including fresh vegetables and salads daily. While the main meal is usually served at lunchtime-based on residents' preferences-we often have a hot tea-time option too, like homemade lasagna. We also offer lighter choices such as sandwiches made with quality branded bread, antipasti, and seasonal options, especially during the warmer months. Following your feedback, we're pleased to add a wider selection of breads and rolls to our weekly menu.

Mum has been a resident since late 2023, and we know that she is being cared for, and the staff will always let us know if there are any issues with her health, or anything she needs.

The Spinney is a lovely home, and the atmosphere is very friendly and caring. Our Mum loves her weekly bingo session

and enjoys the visits from local school children.

I couldn't have hoped for a better home for my sister than The Spinney. Not only are all the staff open and caring but they go the extra mile to tailor care for her needs. The management fosters a happy atmosphere for residents and staff and values everyone. The kitchen staff and maintenance team are
also amazing. Truly an outstanding care home.

The location is peaceful & quiet being opposite a golf course & a forest with only very limited neighbour traffic. The building is modern well maintained & spotlessly clean. The staff are delightful, friendly & professional. No temporary staff. The activities are first-class & imaginative. Also, several
interesting varied excursions are made each week out of the home to maintain interest & avoid “cabin fever”. Food is tasty healthy & varied. A very positive & happy ambience radiates from the Spinney. Thank you from a grateful son.

My mother has been a resident since June 2023 and the staff are constantly working to ensure that the residents have everything they need to make their life in The Spinney Care Home a real home. The activities each week are varied and when there is any "special" date (birthdays, bank holidays etc.)
the building and public areas are decorated appropriately, with activities and parties to match; friends and family are actively encouraged to come and join in. My mother particularly enjoyed the Christmas party; a glass of "bubbles" and the singer that was booked was superb, mixing songs from residents' youth with some more popular songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. The afternoon tea laid on by the chef was properly celebratory - poached salmon and homemade sausage rolls were outstanding. On Christmas Eve, all the residents received a present from Santa and many of the staff gave personal cards out too. This is the most relaxed I have seen Mum for a long time.

My godmother was reluctant to leave her lifelong home but has been very happy at The Spinney. She has been well cared for by staff, made friends with other residents and enjoyed the activities and visits. She especially loves the garden and being able to watch the wildlife from her window. It's lovely
that there is a hair salon onsite and the weekly GP visits are very reassuring.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.722)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.722) out of 10 for The Spinney Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.822 for The Spinney Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (175 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 202 Ratings = 4.822
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Spinney Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

Over 13 years ago, Lisa was interviewed on a Radio 4 programme, designed to show people the potential of being able to build a rewarding career in the care sector.

Shortly after, she joined a care home as a carer and never looked back.

Since then, Lisa has gained a wealth of experience in care homes, whilst also spending time in a nursing care home setting building valuable skills and knowledge. However, her passion has always been for residential care and supporting people to build and retain as much independence as possible.

In 2018 she joined our Spinney family as a senior carer before being promoted to our deputy manager in 2021.

Mum to Kayleigh, and Nan to granddaughter Ella, Lisa is married to her husband David and together they enjoy frequent walks in the Essex countryside, and city breaks exploring different cultures and cuisines. She also loves fresh flowers and enjoys brightening her home with her creative arrangements.

Speaking about The Spinney Lisa said: “The Spinney is my second home and I love spending time with our amazing residents, their loved ones and our dedicated team. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than knowing we are making a positive difference to the lives of each person we support and care for and I’ll be forever grateful I was introduced to the care sector all of those years ago – managing our home is truly an honour.”
