Review of Cherry Wood Grange Care Home from H S (Niece of Resident) published on 27 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

When looking around Cherry Wood Grange in Chelmsford, the staff said they "work in your home," and now that my Uncle lives there, I get what they mean. Before moving in, he was at home and constantly in and out of hospital. Since being there, he has not once needed to go back. His health has improved, he looks a lot better, and he is actually smiling again. It feels like a real community. All the residents look happy and well cared for. There are daily activities and trips out, so people aren't just left sitting alone in their rooms. The care staff are fantastic. All his needs, including medical needs, are met and medication is always on time. He looks well-kept and clean, and so do the other residents. Every member of staff, from catering to cleaners, are outstanding. They listen to him and treat him like a person, not an old man. You can visit whenever you want without restrictions. Family are always made welcome, his privacy is respected, and it is a joy to go there.

My mum went into honey lane care home on respite for 6 weeks after a few days by mum's request they made her permanent.

This home is filled with such love and caring from the staff. My mums a different person since she has been there. She was struggling before living alone and at 92 years old needed 24 hour care. I have watched the light come back into mums eyes and the weight of worry lifted from her shoulders since she has been a resident.. My mum's choice to go into care and she comes first as long as she is happy it's the main thing. I would recommend this home for anyone's loved one.

My father was at Brooklands for 3 years. During that time we had a very positive experience. His physical health was well cared for and the staff did all they could to encourage him to engage with the activities that were going on. The staff were all very caring and made time to chat to him every day. They were also kind and caring to his family. During his last weeks he received very good care.

A safeguard incident happened at the home involving my mother's handbag & £25 which went missing. While Dean the senior care was extremely professional, taking all the details, ringing me 3 times on that day to report what action he had taken & how he had pasted the information over to managers. It is now 3 days later, without a single word from the home or manager. Since then my mother's handbag went missing and was later found hidden under the bathroom sink. Not only was £25 in notes taken but also several pound coins. I telephoned the home on Tuesday expecting to speak with the manager, who was apparently busy. I was told that staff had been searching for her money & handbag. I requested that this be reported to the local Safeguarding Team at the council in line with safeguarding policy. I have had no confirmation that this has taken place. My mother feeling safe at the home is a priority & it is appalling the way this situation has been dealt with by Brooklands Management team.

My mum really enjoys living at Honey Lane.
All of the staff are very caring & treat the residents with respect.
The activities on offer are very varied and mum particularly enjoys mini bus Mondays and visits from the local nursery
It's a joy to see the residents interacting with the young children.
The food is plentiful with a good choice.

I couldn't think of any other Care home that I would want my mum to be.

All staff members from all levels appear to work together as a team with no one unwilling to take on another's responsibility in order to assist a resident when necessary. This helps to maintain the caring, happy and respectful atmosphere at the home.

The residents are further supported by regular and varied activities, appropriate for different skill levels and interests.

My Father moved to Bramley Court from hospital 6 months ago and the transition arrangements and support were excellent during a tough time. All of the staff already feel like family. My Mother needed respite care after shingles and moved into Bridge House for 24/7 care & nursing support. She was familiar with it as she had been to Bridge House twice previously whilst family members were on holiday and had liked the staff and enjoyed the activities on offer. She is now well recovered and healthier than ever and has become a permanent resident with all its advantages.

We have previous experience with care homes and cannot recommend Bridge House highly enough in comparison. Residents are treated with respect , the entertainment is outstanding and staff all go above and beyond .

Generally good but difficult to be very positive as relative has dementia and cannot give reliable information. Information from staff can be contradictory and some services seem to be lacking in proactivity.

Mum has been a resident here for a number of years and over that time she has unfortunately deteriorated due to her dementia. Our family as a whole have always been delighted with the care she has received including the increased care she has needed recently.
When I came to see her today she was asleep in her chair which is not unusual as I know sometimes she has problems going to bed at a reasonable time.
I know this is also a symptom of dementia but all your staff always treat her with dignity and respect. Lure came round to try and include her in an activity this afternoon, but unfortunately Mum just couldn't stay awake.

Everyone at Brooklands are lovely. Thank you all very much.

From the day myself and my brother came in to view the home which was Feb 2026, Vicky the home manager took us under her wing, consoled us and helped us navigate a new chapter in Mum's life. The Staff always take good care, emotionally, mentally and physically. The communication with myself and staff is fantastic, any changes, needs medically or not are always relayed. The staff are well looked after by management and that's then passed onto the Residents. The only negative is the food could be better, plenty of choice, however quality could improve.

We began to look for a care home for our Mother about 6 weeks ago when it became apparent she needed more support than we could provide. Brooklands stood out from all the others we visited. On our initial visit we were asked all about Mum and what she liked. We were given a comprehensive tour and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Mum has since moved in and has settled in well. The activities are varied and tailored to residents to reflect their interests and there are regular outings too. Each time we visit we find all staff continue to be as friendly and welcoming as our first visit.

I can't explain how happy we are that we chose Cherry wood Grange from the day my father in law arrived in 2025 to now (July 2026) the support he has received has been impeccable, he has completely thrived since being in here. He was so frail when he arrived now he is healthy and so so happy here. He is completely at ease here and loves being here. The staff are not actually like staff, but more like friends + family. I honestly can't thank them all enough.

After a fall at her previous care home and a resulting stay in hospital, her previous care home was unable to take her back because she was assessed as needing nursing care she was very frail + had dementia. They recommended Watermill + the hospital confirmed it was an excellent choice. The staff are without exception patient + caring + go to great lengths to ensure that those with dementia are included so far as possible in the many activities. The nursing care is so good that a pressure sore she had when she entered Watermill (+ I was told would never heal) is now fully healed. I am so pleased she is in Watermill
