Both mum and dad are residents in this amazing home. The care and understanding of every member of staff is outstanding. Dad passed a few days ago and, as a family, we can't thank everyone enough for the care and respect shown to dad and the wider family.

My Nan joined the Alderwood care-home family in January 2026 and I just wanted to take a moment to say how incredibly grateful we are for the care and support you provide to my Nan. From the very beginning, the kindness, patience and genuine compassion shown by every member of staff has meant so much
to our whole family- a special mention to Kirsty her dementia nurse who quite honestly treats her as her own Nan and gives constant attention to detail. It gives us such comfort knowing she is in a safe, warm and happy environment where she is treated with dignity and respect every single day. Nikki and her team go above and beyond - whether it's the little chats, the encouragement to join activities, or simply taking the time to make her smile. It truly makes a difference, and we can see how settled and well cared for she is. The love Nikki shows to all the residents is beaming from her! Thank you for everything you do. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful.

Alderwood Care Home

We were looking for a care home for my elderly father who has dementia in the Colchester area. We looked at 7 different homes across the surroundings areas and knew instantly when we walked into Alderwood that this was the best place for him to be cared for. During the tour by Karen we met several members
of staff all of whom were engaging and spent time to talk to us. The rooms that we were shown were of a high standard and spotlessly clean. The residents that we met were well cared for and many of them had smiles on their faces. With the homes catering for residential, dementia and nursing we knew that our Dad would never have to leave this facility if his needs increased. When Nikki did the home assessment, she met our elderly mother and took time to talk to her and reassure her that his needs would be fully met and that he would be happy there. Since he has been in the home he has been to some of the activities and is always happy.

My Nan has been at Alderwood for a few months now and as a family we were worried about the transition, however Alderwood have gone above and beyond to help us as a family and my Nan absolutely loves being here. My nans dementia lead nurse Kirsty is absolutely fantastic and treats my Nan as her own.
She enjoys all the clubs and class that Laura works hard to put on, and quite frankly we all want to move in! Nikki the manager is second to none and we thank her for all her support. What a place! X

My mother who is living with dementia has been a resident at this amazing home , we as a family were very anxious to put her into care. We visited 7 other homes but alderwood was the perfect fit for my Mum.
She is thriving, enjoying all the activities and the company. We feel a sense of relief we
know she is happy and looked after.
So thank you to Nikki and her team .

Alderwood is an exceptional home and our Dad is very happy and extremely well cared for.
Every individual person who works at the home shows wonderful care for our Dad - whether it's Nikki the manager, Fez and Laura - two carers on my Dad's floor, Kirsty the lead dementia nurse or Carl the handyman-
they all know him, understand him, look after him and make him happy!
We couldn't have wished for a better home.

Our father is given the best care. The team at Alderwood respond to and anticipate his needs and go above and beyond to ensure he is understood and treated with dignity. He is always clean, well dressed and well fed. The team communicate with us effectively and with empathy. It is so lovely that they
are able to see the man behind the dementia.

Honey Lane Care Home

from Linda C (Sister of Resident) published on 27 January 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My sister moved into Honey Lane in September 2025. After viewing four care homes, we instantly had a very good feeling about this one - and it has exceeded our expectations in every way.
The home has a warm, homely atmosphere, with very clean and spacious rooms. The staff are truly wonderful: caring,
welcoming, and attentive. My sister settled in quickly and is extremely happy, which brings so much comfort to her family and friends.
The social side of Honey Lane is fantastic. She has enjoyed numerous day trips on the home's minibus, has her hair and nails done weekly, and loves the regular music events. There are so many daily activities to take part in, and she has embraced them all.
We cannot fault Honey Lane. Knowing my sister is safe, happy, and well cared for.
Thankyou so much to all of the dedicated staff.

My mum has been a resident at Honey Lane since August 2025. The level of care and activities provided is outstanding. She is well-looked after, safe, cared for, with stimulating activities and social engagement and we have peace of mind. There are activities taking place every morning and afternoon
which provide a wide-range of stimulation, including weekly and fortnightly visits from pets and other animals, a toddler group, karaoke singers, dancers and other special visits. During Christmas there were multiple activities every day with visits from local school children and wonderful decorations. Mum has also been taken out for lunches and visits in the minibus. When she has been taken to hospital, the staff have been excellent in providing care support and communication and settling her back when she returns. The staff are wonderful and many have been there many years, it feels like a family.

Honey Lane Care Home is the best, the service and staff are 1st class. Always very friendly and helpful. My cousin is so happy here, she has thrived and done so much in the short she has been there.
My cousin's needs are always met and the staff support her in all her needs, whether it's taking her
out on outings, getting her nails done or popping to the shops or just being there when she is confused and upset, they put all our minds at rest knowing she is safe and being well cared for. Her quality of life is so much better now than it was before moving into Honey Lane

I cannot praise Honey Lane enough for their care, attention and respect towards mum. All the staff are so lovely and kind, not only to the residents but also their family members. Mum moved in in November 2025 after a prolonged stay in hospital and, when discharged, was no longer able to live at home.

When looking at various homes, we were invited along to visit them before deciding. The warmth we received immediately was exactly what was needed, and we knew straight away that that was where we wanted mum to be, and she soon settled in. There are a variety of activities and interactions, or residents can just sit quietly or watch TV. The team all work very hard to maintain a good balance for their residents regarding their care, health and enjoyment of life.

Mum has since been back in hospital, but she is now back at home with them and getting the care and assistance she needs. I can also contact them and visit anytime knowing she is being well looked after.
