The care and compassion that is employed at Alderwoods is 2nd to none. I and the family are in no doubt that the expertise, commitment and understanding of Mums needs has been the main reason for Mum still being with us today. Her home for the last 4 1/2 years. They have engaged her in daily activities
and brought about much happiness.

Good staff engagement with the residents, making an effort to keep them stimulated with activities and outings, engaging their brains with songs and singing. Also welcoming to family and friends, offering refreshments. The home has a transparent approach as the family has the codes to visit any time.

Honey Lane Care Home

My father had been at Honey Lane for 3 years and we cannot praise the care and support that was given not only to him but to the family as well, they went above and beyond. Due to the dementia we had not seen my father for three years previously, even though we had tried he refused to see us. Under
their care he was reunited with us so we were able to see him to the extent that I took him out to the local pub every week for a meal and a rum and he attended family meals. For this we are so grateful. First of all he refused to come out of his room but again they encouraged him to socialise so that he eventually attended outings out and also sat in the day room. Each of the team that cared for him did so with compassion, patience and kindness. My father got taken to hospital and was placed into ICU, he was accompanied by a carer in the ambulance and waited until we got there. She was lovely and so kind and was upset that she couldn't sit with him. We cannot praise enough.

Cherry Wood Grange Care Home

from C G (Daughter of Resident) published on 3 June 2025

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Dad moved to Cherry Wood Grange from another care home at the beginning of May. My Dad had more meaningful, stimulation in the first 48 hours of being at this care home than he had experienced in 5 months at the previous home.
The staff at Cherry Wood Grange are kind, warm and genuinely care about
their residents and resident's family. Everyone was keen to meet my Dad and actively asked questions about his likes, dislikes and the things that may upset him. Cherry Wood Grange has created a family feel that resident's family are also included in.
The communication has been excellent! I live a long way from this care home and my only weekly communication with my Dad is via video call. Day and night staff have helped me to have video calls with my Dad that fit around my working day and I don't feel like I'm being a nuisance when I call, which is lovely.
Cherry Wood Grange work really, hard to give their residence a life full of rich experiences and activities.
I feel hopeful for my Dad's future and don't worry continuously about him.
Thank you

My Mother has been a resident at Honey lane for the past 4 years. Due to Her advancing age and dementia. She could no longer look after Herself. She has been well cared for and treated very well despite Her condition. Sadly She is now at end of life phase. We are comforted in the fact that She
is safe and being treated with respect.

My sister has been in Alderwood Care Home for 9 years and has always been treated with respect and has received exceptional care. She is happy here. I did not expect my sister to live such a long and healthy life once she was diagnosed with dementia, but the staff and management at Alderwood have
extended her life and the quality of it. I couldn't imagine her being anywhere else!

My mother moved to Ashbrook Court following multiple medical issues , including a massive stroke, the staff were extremely welcoming and reassuring during this time of adjustment for us all, the medical care she has received is outstanding, the nursing staff are all excellent and always make time
for us to explain anything or answer questions we have And consequently my mother has been kept well, happy and comfortable
We can now rest knowing she is being so well cared for
This alongside the outstanding care staff who look after her, always with a smile for her and us . i can't fault them!!

Excellent care home. Staff and Carers are always welcoming and respectful. As with anywhere there are always one or two things that could be griped about but ultimately I 100% feel confident that my dad is well looked after and cared for. Most importantly, he is treated with respect and the carers
and staff make every effort to ensure he is comfortable and happy.

The level of care and staff commitment to ensure my mum had the best life possible is simply fantastic. Nothing is too much. My mum had never been so happy as she is now. The staff from catering, nursing to caring are all so committed. Also the premises are perfect thanks to the dedicated maintenance
staff.
I can rest easy in everyone at Alderwood to look after mum as she is on palliative care with stomach cancer. They have kept my mum well and alive for over a year even though the hospital said she only had a few months prognosis.and also no falls or injuries and unnecessary hospital admissions as everything has been discussed and planned for my mum to end her days in a place she calls home and is loved .

Ashbrook Court Care Home

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
My mothers experience was not good. Following an assessment by social services, they said that interim care was a good idea and stated that Ashbrook House confirmed that they had availability. Obviously we were anxious for mum to be in a safer in environment, however it took nearly 2 weeks for them
to assess and admit her. When she arrived there she was placed in a terrible environment for her, with poor dementia patients wandering around when my mother has fully capacity. On this wing, she had strangers wandering into her 'private' room, there was loud music blaring in the corridors. She wasn't allowed to chose her own outfits, and finally, she didn't like the food. Trying to contact my mother here was very problematic, very often excuses were made, and on one occasion I was connected to a stranger. Finally we transferred mum out of here, she had no discharge papers and they had 'binned' her prescription meds, leaving her without necessary medication for 24 hours.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and I'm sorry you felt that way. I was sad to read your thoughts and disappointed you hadn't raised your concerns before as we're always open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement to deliver exceptional care. Our residents are always encouraged to make a variety of choices including how and where they spend their time, what they eat and the clothes they wear. If someone is struggling to decide we may suggest a couple of ideas to help. We find the music in our corridors is a welcomed feature as it's made up of our residents' favourite songs. I wish we'd known you found it too loud as we'd have been happy to turn it down or relocate it. Please be assured, I was there when our nurse handed her medication over to a team member from your mother's new care home and the full paperwork was emailed across to them that day. Whilst I'm limited in the length of reply here, please contact me so we can discuss your feedback in more detail

The care my mother receives at Alderwood is exceptional. It is an outstanding care home led by an outstanding manager. The wonderful lifestyle team ensure mum has a wide range of activities to take part in daily and mum really enjoys these social interactions. Mum regularly goes on interesting trips
which she loves, most recently to a Colchester ladies football match. The attention to detail in marking special occasions is lovely to see. Christmas transformed the home into a winter wonderland which gave a lot of joy to mum and I'm sure the other residents. Everyone's birthday is celebrated and they are made to feel very special. The care staff are kind, caring, happy, compassionate and respectful of the residents and very welcoming to me when I visit (almost daily). Alderwood is clean, bright and well cared for, it feels warm and homely. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the gardens are a lovely place to send time enjoying visits in. The meals provided are excellent and mum always comments on how nice the food is!
