The staff at The Spinney Care Home are very friendly and caring and have done their best to help my mother settle in the home. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, communication is great, there is a lovely atmosphere in the home, great to see all their activities on Facebook.

I visit my friend regularly. I find the staff very welcoming and professional no matter how busy they are. I know it has been difficult for them during the Covid status but they managed to remain calm and informative. My friend appears to have settled there and enjoys the exercise class.

I am very pleased with the care home my mother is in. Good activities, helpful staff, great food, good residents and not very far for me and the rest of her family can come and visit her, she is very happy since being there.

What a lovely place to live. My mum is very happy at The Spinney. She enjoys her food, which is a surprise because she has always been so picky! All the staff are very kind and patient. It is easy to communicate with The Spinney as phone calls and emails get quick responses. She has now been at The Spinney for seven months and I cannot think of even the slightest moan or complaint. I love the way that I get occasional emails telling a little story about her day and the regular postings on Facebook let me know what is going on. Visiting has been tricky of course, but it is made as easy as the rules will allow, during the pandemic.

On visiting my relative, I was made welcome and my friend with Alzheimer’s looked clean, well cared for and happy. Covid regulations were followed with everyone’s safety considered. My friend always seems happy when engaging with staff who treat her like a family member.

I spent three weeks in respite care and was patiently shown care home facilities. I was encouraged to join keep fit and other activities. Staff showed interest in me as a person and noticed my personal preference at mealtimes and showed concern about my wellbeing as nighttime approached.

A welcoming team that put Mum at ease right away, including the nice touch of a welcome basket with magazines and sweets she likes. The move to allow us to provide family photographs and a collage before Mum's arrival really helped break the ice. Given we cannot visits right now, I really welcome sight of photos of daily events on Facebook, which helps us keep abreast of goings-on. Thank you.

Mum has been at The Spinney for two and a half years, and from day one, Mum's care has been exceptional. I really cannot praise and thank the staff enough. It's been a tough year for everyone, and all the staff have been absolutely fantastic by supporting Mum both physically and emotionally, especially during these times when family members like myself cannot be there.

My mother has been a resident at The Spinney for well over a year now, and she is well and happy. This is largely due to the excellent care she receives from all who help to care for her at The Spinney who do their utmost to make it feel like a home from home. Care is one thing, loving care is the thing that makes the difference at The Spinney. 2020 was an unprecedented year, and the fact that my mother has continued to thrive through this time is a true credit to all concerned.

Every resident at The Spinney is so treasured and special to us, their loved ones out here, that we invest huge trust in a care home such as this for their care, safety and health. In the 7 years in which my only sister has been resident there, that trust has been honoured from day 1 and it has been such a reassurance to know that every single day she receives such a high standard of care, both as an individual and as part of a very special community. I have observed not only a high standard of professionalism in all of the excellent staff and leadership but also a real sensitivity and concern for each resident as an individual and their needs. My sister feels so safe and secure there and it really is a home to her where she feels she belongs and all her needs are met, as well as a high quality community facility serving the varied needs of so many other residents. Every day I know she is in the best possible hands receiving the best possible care.

My father has been a resident since January 2020. I cannot praise all staff enough, the management are always ready to answer any queries and are happy to spend time doing so. The care staff are so kind and caring, not just with the work they have to do regarding their job description, but spending time to share a joke with Dad and us and always have a smile. Dad has put on weight since being there, the food is varied and plentiful, the chef is always happy to make sure Dad has food he likes. The activity team come up with imaginative ideas to keep all residents occupied. The whole building is spotless and well maintained. This has been a very challenging year for everyone but the residents have had the same high standard of care as before Covid. We have been able to have outside visiting when allowed and video contact when it was not allowed. Dad is very happy and has not once asked to go ‘home’, we thank everyone for everything.

My mother first went to The Spinney Care Home in March 2018. Since then, she has received excellent care from all the staff. The home puts on a variety of events for both residents and family and tries to get everyone involved.

Nothing seems to be a problem to the staff and they take it all in their stride. We cannot praise them all too highly.

Mum has been in The Spinney for a year now. This place is beautifully clean. There are lots of wonderful carers who are very professional and nothing is too much trouble. The place has been really made to make you feel at home.
The building is exceptionally clean, the food and cakes are freshly baked and is like beautiful home cooking.
This place has also been a great support for me to help me care for Mum.

Only downside, Mum has a wet room, but not very convenient for me to wash Mum. Could do with a shower in the bathroom.

My dad has been in The Spinney for 18 months. He is so well looked after and the activities that they do for the residents is very good and all staff, from the handyman to the manager speak to you when you come into the home.

We feel very lucky that we have him in The Spinney and it gives me so much peace of mind that he is there.

My mother was at The Spinney for about three and a half years, and with her dementia making her unhappy and angry, it was a thankless task looking after her. The staff were nothing but kind and supportive of both my mother and the family.
At the end of her life when the family spent their days with her, the staff on the dementia floor could not have been more caring or respectful.

I have no hesitation in recommending the Spinney Care Home as their philosophy of 'Exceptional Care without Exception' is what they are all about.

The care my mother has had at The Spinney has been excellent.
Staff are thorough and professional whilst remaining unfailingly caring and loving.
As relatives, we are made to feel welcome and comfortable. We have been involved in all decisions and delivery of care.
Managers are "hands-on", setting an example to staff as well as monitoring the high standards.

I cannot find fault in any aspect of care at The Spinney.

I spent 6 days visiting my relative, she is thriving in a caring and stimulating environment. The food was good and the staff are kind.

My suggestion: the front door needs a wheelchair accessibility button to hold it open while wheelchairs and people using walking sticks pass through. This is practical and not a luxury as management suggested.

Lisa WrightJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2024

Over 13 years ago, Lisa was interviewed on a Radio 4 programme, designed to show people the potential of being able to build a rewarding career in the care sector.

Shortly after, she joined a care home as a carer and never looked back.

Since then, Lisa has gained a wealth of experience in care homes, whilst also spending time in a nursing care home setting building valuable skills and knowledge. However, her passion has always been for residential care and supporting people to build and retain as much independence as possible.

In 2018 she joined our Spinney family as a senior carer before being promoted to our deputy manager in 2021.

Mum to Kayleigh, and Nan to granddaughter Ella, Lisa is married to her husband David and together they enjoy frequent walks in the Essex countryside, and city breaks exploring different cultures and cuisines. She also loves fresh flowers and enjoys brightening her home with her creative arrangements.

Speaking about The Spinney Lisa said: “The Spinney is my second home and I love spending time with our amazing residents, their loved ones and our dedicated team. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than knowing we are making a positive difference to the lives of each person we support and care for and I’ll be forever grateful I was introduced to the care sector all of those years ago – managing our home is truly an honour.”
