Excellent care. Management is very helpful and wonderful, caring staff. However, religious aspects are somewhat lacking since the previous activity director resigned. A pity that there is no Jewish staff or volunteers (other than the Rabbi) to oversee Jewish activities.
Thank you for your comments. The Rabbi oversees all the religious aspects of the home and ensures all religious occasions are covered by either himself or his son. That, compared to lockdown, when there were no in-house services other than the ones supported by the previous activities coordinator,...
My mother has been in Sydmar for two years. For the first 18 months, she enjoyed all the benefits of the home with activities, dining and care and was very happy. After a serious chest infection, she deteriorated and is now bedridden. Sydmar staff looks after her wonderfully; she is kept spotlessly clean. They have the patience to spoon-feed her every meal with soft food, and all try and interact with her. I visit daily and have built up a huge respect for them all. Thank you, Sydmar, from all our family.
There are plenty of activities for her to join in with if she chooses, and she enjoys having her hair done regularly.
The manager and staff seem to be relaxed and smiling, and the recently-refurbished building feels cosy and homely and, most importantly, is bright and clean.
As she is bedbound, she doesn't take part in the activities but I see how much the other residents enjoy them.
Would recommend.
My mother has always been treated with respect. The carers are lovely and always willing to go the extra mile. The activities are very well thought out to include all residents. Very easy to communicate with the manager. Spotlessly clean and a happy vibe throughout.
My mother has been in Sydmar Lodge for over five years. The manager is an amazing person, she is always available to talk to and help with any problems that should occur. The staff are wonderful, always caring and seem to genuinely care about each individual. I always go home knowing that she is being well looked after.
My late mother was a resident at Sydmar Lodge from January 2020 until she passed away in February this year. I cannot put into words how kind and caring the carers and management were to my mum during her stay and especially in her final days. I shall miss being part of the Sydmar Lodge family.
If there are any issues that require sorting she raises this directly with the staff who always try their best to help and resolve the problem. She is independent (apart from mobility issues) and able to make her own decisions and wishes known.
As a daughter, I am happy in the knowledge that mum is well cared for and in a safe environment. The staff/management are very approachable and will listen to any concerns we have and this is much appreciated.
They used to polish her nails as she had lovely nails, and she was always clean and tidy. I am so pleased I picked Sydmar Lodge - they are very caring.
Thank you for such kind words, Sharon; your mother is remembered fondly and missed by all.
My mum has been a resident at Sydmar Lodge for over 4-years. They have always treated her with kindness and care. They have done an excellent job of keeping the residents safe during the lockdown while doing as much as they can to let families see the residents safely.
It took her a while to settle and accept her new life, but she was won over ultimately by the kindness and care of Sydmar Lodge's staff and management, the daily activity programme and, very importantly, the terrific food.
I am incredibly grateful to all at Sydmar for taking such great care of my mother and for creating an environment in which she is safe and happy.
Dad was extremely reluctant to try any care home. Sydmar offered him the time, patience and respect he needed to settle in. We haven’t looked back. He is really enjoying his time there, and we are thrilled with the attention and care the home offers. What a wonderful find. Can’t fault it. Beautifully managed home. Thank you.
My aunt was forced to move to a new home after her prior home closed as a result of the pandemic. Our family is very fortunate that we were advised to consider Sydmar Lodge (among other carer homes), as it has met all of our hopes and expectations. The service manager has done an exceptional job making the transition a smooth one and helping ease our concerns. Our family’s concerns and challenges have been somewhat unique, as we are located in America, and therefore, have had to navigate much of this process from afar. Thankfully, the activities director and service manager have done a great deal to help us bridge the gap, such as arranging Zoom meetings on a regular basis. The staff at Sydmar has taken a sincere, personal interest in assuring our aunt is well cared for and that we are kept current on relevant developments and facilitating visits.
The home arranges entertainment on a regular basis whether games, physical activities or music and everyone is encouraged to join in to the best of their ability. There is a regular cleaning routine, and the home is spotless. I don't think I could ask for better care for Mum - thank you all at Sydmar Lodge.
My mother has recently moved into Sydmar Lodge and loves it there. She had been very independent before but was struggling to cope on her own and was very bored in her flat. We were a bit apprehensive about her moving into a home, but she settled in very quickly and now feels very much at home. She says that all the staff are wonderful, and she particularly enjoys the meals. She thinks that she is living in a first-class hotel! Mum has been kept busy with numerous and varied activities each day, which have helped to keep her stimulated and engaged. We really enjoy seeing what she has been doing through the videos and photos on Sydmar's Facebook page. We can tell that she is very well looked after, entertained and happy in her new home. The home is very well run, and everyone is friendly and helpful. We didn't think Mum would ever want to move into a care home, but we are so happy that we found Sydmar Lodge and the perfect home for her.
It's been a difficult year for all. We really appreciate the support and dedication the staff at Sydmar have offered. Looking forward to an easing of restrictions and being able to see and hug our Mum.
My aunt has been at the care home for over 2-years. The food is of great quality, the staff are warm and extremely caring. The activities offered are wonderful and varied. The management team efficient, and very attentive to individual requests and needs.
More specifically, my aunt became very sick with Covid at the end of February 2021. The overall care has been excellent. The management bent over backwards to do whatever they could in assisting with my aunt’s care and recovery. The staff have worked tirelessly and have demonstrated the utmost commitment and care during extremely challenging times. My aunt has recovered, and we are grateful to the team at Sydmar for the role they have played, resulting in a 94-year-old being an example that where there is life, there is hope. And when it’s not your time, it’s not your time. Huge thanks and gratitude to all at Sydmar Lodge. My aunt is now joining in the various activities with more zest than ever.
My mother fell, had a hip operation followed by a month in hospital. The hospital recommended that Mum needed residential care. It all happened during Covid lockdown. A very unknown time. This meant restrictions and trust in the staff in Sydmar Lodge. I had visited Sydmar Lodge over several years in unrestricted times when other family members needed the excellent care provided by Sydmar Lodge. My mother has dementia and is mostly wheelchair-bound. Sydmar Lodge staff have cared for her needs to a high standard helping my mother with meals and providing a diet that keeps Mum comfortable. I can see that staff get to know their residents. My mother smiles and laughs with the staff. Thank you.
My mother appears to be very happy and well looked after. That is my main objective. Well done to the manager and all the staff for their hard work during these very tough and challenging times.
My cousin entered Sydmar Lodge in July 2020. She has proved to be not an easy person to care for, and I think that the staff at Sydmar Lodge have shown great patience and understanding of her condition and situation. The manager and assistant manager have always been available to speak to on the telephone, helping us to care for my cousin in the very best way we can - especially in these very difficult Covid times. If I have email queries, they are always responded to immediately. I have been so grateful for the support, care and understanding that has been shown to us.

Meet the Team (1)

Julia has worked in the care sector for over 30 years, and at Sydmar Lodge since 2016. Before this, she worked as a Regional Manager for a large corporate care organisation, covering 9 care homes and 13 day centres. She is passionate about resident care, and missed the direct contact with people and their families, which is why she returned to Home Management, and chose Sydmar Lodge as it has always been known for it's family oriented atmosphere.
On Wednesday, 7 January 2026, Julia was presented with a Gold Award by Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care at the Department of Health and Social Care. The award recognises individuals and teams for outstanding contribution, leadership, and innovation within social care.
