Staff are always very kind and considerate. Sydmar Lodge has a very nice, welcoming atmosphere. Setting aside the effects of the Covid 19 and lockdown restrictions, Sydmar Lodge provides a wide range of appropriate activities for residents.
My father went into Sydmar Lodge at the beginning of the first lockdown. It was a very difficult time for the family, but it was made easier for us all by the wonderful care and attention that was given to him at all times by the manager and her team. A few months later, my mother went into the home and sadly passed away there a couple of weeks later. We were shown a great deal of compassion by all the staff at Sydmar. Nothing was too much trouble, and we were kept informed at all times.
My father was admitted to Sydmar Lodge just before the lockdown started last March. He was warmly welcomed by the staff, which was very appreciated by the family as we were not allowed into the home to settle him in. During what has been a very difficult year, since then, my mother was also admitted to spending her last days with my father. The staff could not have been more accommodating and kind at this very difficult time, and they have continued to be so. My father is unable to attend to any of his personal needs and needs full-time care, which has always been forthcoming. We are very happy to now be able to visit inside but must say that throughout the year, we have been able to see him last summer in the garden and over the winter in the pod, they have built or through the window. Our queries have always been answered by the staff who are always on hand to give assistance. We would highly recommend Sydmar, the manager and her deputy, the activities organiser and all the carers.
I do think that staff and management at Sydmar Lodge are very caring, responsible and responsive and am very happy that my mum is being looked after there, it really takes a big weight off my mind. On a recent Zoom, it was clear that other relatives felt similarly.
A well and efficiently run facility giving residents a very good quality of life. The staff are extremely caring. Sydmar offers an amazing array of imaginative, stimulating and entertaining activities. First-class.
Sydmar Lodge and all its staff have gone way beyond their jobs over the last year. The care and dedication have just been insurmountable! I could close my eyes at night and know my mother was safe, protected and cared for in such a dedicated way.
Every person on the staff at Sydmar I hold in such high regard. I would recommend them to anyone who has an elderly parent or relative who needs looking after them in their later years.
Thank you so much from all my family.
We are very impressed how they kept us in touch with Mum during the lockdowns, and we had garden visits, window visits, FaceTime and next week two of us can visit Mum, which will be so nice!
Our family believe in celebrating such occasions with the extended family so it was very frustrating for us not to be able to do so this year.
But the activities coordinator and all the staff at Sydmar did a fantastic job in helping make Dad’s birthday such a special day in the difficult circumstances. It was lovely to see how happy he was in the photos and videos that they shared with us. He really seemed to come to life and clearly had an enjoyable and fun time. So we did manage to celebrate though in an unusual and different way. Thank you Sydmar.
Covid has made the lives of carers within care homes very difficult. Despite these severe strains, Sydmar’s staff have elevated themselves to be as attentive as ever, with safety always foremost. We feel blessed that my mother is able to live in such a loving and caring home.
Thank you for your kind words, they are much appreciated.
Thankfully my mother went into the home before the virus. All the staff have taken great care of the residents, especially social distancing, and after a time enabling the residents to see their families.
Since the outbreak of Covid-19, this care home has overcome so many obstacles through no fault of their own ie being provided with PP equipment and everything associated with the virus to maintain and keep safe the residents and of course the all staff carers etc. We have been kept informed in great detail of the running of the home where ever it has been possible. The home manager and all her staff have been amazing. Before Covid-19 the home in our opinion is run to a very high standard. It is always clean wherever you are, the entertainment aspect and activities are excellent. Staff are always friendly and the residents very well cared for. If there are any problems they are usually resolved very quickly. The home is run to a very high standard You cannot please all of the people all of the time and little mishaps occur but nothing to deter the excellent service that the home provides.
It was really difficult for them all, but they managed to keep us in touch with Mum and keep her safe! We had window visits and FaceTime calls so we could see her. Mum is very happy at Sydmar Lodge!
There is a warm and friendly atmosphere at Sydmar and we are very happy mum is there!
I can not commend highly enough Sydmar Lodge. Apart from the excellent care and attention they gave my 100-year-old mother, I was particularly impressed by their “end of life” reaction. My mother was in hospital when it was suggested she could return to the care home to end her life in familiar surroundings. I had no idea how the management would react to such a suggestion. I should have known better! The manager and her team could not have been more supportive. They liaised with the hospital to arrange a suitable bed to be sent to the home. As it happened, my mother slipped away, peacefully, sadly she couldn't be transferred back to Sydmar Lodge, but the willingness to accept my mother back under these circumstances reflects the genuine care and commitment of the manager and her team to the well-being of those in their care. For the avoidance of any doubt, this care extends to all those under their care, whatever their state of health is.
They tried to involve him in as many activities as practical to try and ensure he was as engaged as possible (even though his dementia made this challenging), they really understood what he enjoyed.
We never had concerns about the level or quality of care he received and were very pleased with the way that Sydmar Lodge worked with us to ensure both his initial transition and continued care were planned.
Unfortunately, he had several stays in hospital, and again the home always ensure that both the transfer to/from and any changes to medical care were planned and implemented with the minimum of disruption.
Sydmar Lodge was definitely his second home.
Sydmar is a lovely home it has a nice atmosphere. My Mother is very well looked after day and night the staff are very attentive. Good variety of activities.
The employees seem attentive and take good care of their residents. I enjoy seeing the variety of activities that are on offer and do believe the therapies and classes help in brain recall. Keep up the efforts.
My grandparents were residents at Sydmar Lodge between 2014 and 2018. They received an outstanding level of care during their final years. I can not speak more highly of the staff at Sydmar Lodge - it was always a pleasure to visit my grandparents at the home. Thank you so much and wishing you every success in your continued efforts!
My brother and I looked at several care homes, most of which smelled of care homes. Sydmar is not like that. Everything is fresh and newly decorated/carpeted/floored.
There is something to do most days, morning and afternoon.
Being an independent care home means it’s a very hands on care home. The manager is always available to talk to. I believe my mother is very well cared for and could not wish for a better home for her. Would highly recommend and would be happy to discuss further.
I am extremely satisfied with the care at Sydmar Lodge, all the carers are lovely and caring. The atmosphere in the home is always welcoming to us family members, entertainment is always excellent, home is clean odour free. My mother is very happy here.
Very happy with the care and support provided by the wonderful staff. I would recommend this home to others.

Meet the Team (1)

Julia has worked in the care sector for over 30 years, and at Sydmar Lodge since 2016. Before this, she worked as a Regional Manager for a large corporate care organisation, covering 9 care homes and 13 day centres. She is passionate about resident care, and missed the direct contact with people and their families, which is why she returned to Home Management, and chose Sydmar Lodge as it has always been known for it's family oriented atmosphere.
On Wednesday, 7 January 2026, Julia was presented with a Gold Award by Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care at the Department of Health and Social Care. The award recognises individuals and teams for outstanding contribution, leadership, and innovation within social care.
